Getting to know each other a little more!
Some of us will be home this weekend celebrating July 4th and some of us don't celebrate it where we live. Something to keep me busy and away from Housework.
This is one that we haven't done and since I have a great love of music I wanted to know who listens to what and what your favorite artists are. ( 5 Only or we will end up with another Monogram Poll ) If you want to say why then great, give as much or little information as you wish.
Laura. <><

It is weird I know but I really enjoy Spanish Classical Guitar. My favorite is Ottmar Leirbert I love Classical Guitar too! I will have to check out Ottmar Leirbert. I am new to buying Classical Guitar pieces. I just bought a CD with the Concerto de Arronez (sp?) recently. I listen to Classical mostly but will throw in some New Christain stuff when I am feeling like I want to sing and be bop. My favorites there are Toby Mac and DC Talk. As for Classical, my fav is Aaron Copeland. Love his American feeling music. Makes me feel so optimistic whenever I hear his music. Goes well with my drives because we live near lots of prairies and mountains.

I usually only listen to music when I'm driving. If I'm by myself, I listen to country, if my 17 year old is in the car, we listen to a 70's music station. If hubby's in the car, he usually turns it onto talk radio, yuck I hate that! Vicki

My husband played in a rock band that (for a while) opened for Jefferson Airplane (aka Starship) in San Francisco, so you all can guess what music we mostly listen to. Our daughter loves blue grass, and since I'm our church organist, I enjoy a smattering of Bach, cranked up really loud when no one else is home.

Actually, I love all kinds of music. I enjoy listening to the music of when I was a teenager. I enjoy rock, I really like new age classical. Love that Josh Groban. I enjoy country as long as it's not too whiney. You know like horse manure on the trail stuff. Just about anything except rap. Can't get into that. I guess I'm just too old. LOL

I went to an inner city high school so the music that I learned to dance to was rap! Of course, rap these days is very different and has left me in the dust. Cheryle, if you could point me to a good CD to start with the Latin music, I would be grateful. I do really like that music but I know basically nothing about Latin culture so I am in the dark where to start. Ask me about Eastern Europe or Europe or even Japan and I might have a clue but with anything Latino, I need help!

I thought that I would vote! Not the brightest bulb on the tree!! Never said I was. I voted for :
Soft Rock - Elton John - Barry Manilow - Lionel Richie - Barbra Streisand - Beatles
New Christian - Chris Tomlin - Casting Crowns
Oldies but Goodies - Matt Monroe - Nat King Cole - Frank Sinatra
Latin Music was in " other " didn't you see in there? I saw quite a few genres in " other " ! ;D ;D ;D Sorry I tried to think of all I could. There were a few that my son suggested but I had never heard of them.

I love music (though I'm a terrible singer, I'm only allowed to sing when I'm alone, otherwise I'm treated like Troubadix ;D) I love all kind of classical music, Bach, Beethofen, Mendelsohn Bartholdy, Smetana, Chopin and many more. I've got quite a collection of classical and modern classic guitar music as I used to play guitar myself (actually met DH when taking guitar lessons) There are a couple of American singers/songwriters I like a lot Leonhard Cohen (I got a ticket for his open air concert on the market place here in Loerrach on July 26th - I'm so excited ) Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Brown, Tori Amos, Suzanne Vega and a couple of German singers that fit the same category: Reinhard Mey, Konstantin Wecker, Bettina Wegner, Herbert Groenemeyer. I like if the lyrics are worth listening... You'd find a good share of Rock and Folkrock among my CDs as well Eagles, Police, Sting, Queen, Simple Minds, Dire Straits....

Barbara, My 3 favorite Classical pieces are - Debussy's Clair du Loon, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto & Rachmaninoff's Symphony # 1. I get so lost in those Classical pieces. They don't compose music like that anymore.......what a shame. Laura. <><

I think I truly am I child of the 70's and 80's. I love a lot of music. My favorites are:
* Bob Marly * UB 40 * The Police/Sting * U2 * Queen * Spandau Ballet * but most and for all : BON JOVI!!!!
I also learned to appreciate the music of the 50's. I got some cd's from my dad that I kept after clearing out his house.. I found some Glenn Miller Orchestra stuff and I love that.
The one classic piece I really like is Ravel's Bolero. I have one version on CD that lasts about 20 minutes.. When I play that one I play it loud.. but not to often.. because what would the neighbours think... lol

Sorry, Laura, but I won't put my one and only dirndl (traditional Bavarian dress) on and yodel for you - you'd run like a couple of wolves were behiend you LOL I'm really a terrible singer! It's more a family tradition thing, if you didn't grow up with it, you don't do it. But there are a couple of Bavarian/German songs I like to sing alone in my car We do have a whole music industry that promotes "Volksmusik" Popular immitations of real traditional music, with overdone cutesy lyrics, music and costumes - everything so FALSE only done to make money Just hate it!!!!!!

Angelique, My children won't let me clogg. I really like to do it when I take them to the grocery store. They say I am embarrassing them. Now that is hurtful .... so I sing instead. ;D ;D ;D I know you Clogg in the Netherlands but somehow I thought you look like a person who yodeled. I guess not! Don't say you can't sing everyone can!!
Barbara, You just sing your heart out. It is good for the sole. If your family doesn't understand then make them sit on the Time Out Chair! Now you have a Bavarian Dress?? I have seen pictures of where you live! Yes ... Certainly a Yodeling you must go! Please make a video to share with us?? I can see it now. How beautiful! Simply captivating!
I expect more of you two. I will wait to hear and of see Barbara's First Music Video. Bravo! Bravo!

Too bad Laura, I don't have cloggs. Don't want to end up with a splinter in my toe...
I wear flipflops most of the time, and believe me a flipflop dance isn't the same

Thanks for participating. ;D ;D ;D Laura. <>< ;D ;D ;D I always love latin music (obviously) and pop (ex-Britney/Christina/Jessica fan here ;D), then I moved to TX where I realized that most of the "american music" that I loved when I was in the Dom. Rep was called Contemporary Country so I was very into country ...then I moved to the East Coast, to Boston and here is where I became fascinated with the R&B and even some rap. I love their beat and dancing, but I get very embarrased with their videos. ;D

I danced to their music when I went to my first High School disco when I was just 13... yeah.. back in the old days... I think it must have been one of their greatest hits.. I was made for loving you... still sing along with it when it is played on my car radio... I am a rocker, can't you tell??? ;D

I have never heard them actually...I am usually too distracted with the Kiss guy's tongue to pay attention to anything else. I saw him in Ugly Betty the other day and he was putting his tongue out (for lack of a better expresion) like this .
