Hi, I was wondering if anyone has attended any of the Creating Keepsakes scrap events? There is one that will be close to home that I am thinking of attending but wanted to know if anyone has been and what their thoughts were. Lisa Bearnson is supposed to be there which is one of the other reasons that I was thinking of attending. All responses greatly appreciated!! Thanks! Cindy

I was at the Manchester show this spring. I go for the shopping, rather than the classes. Someday I'll do a class, but I usually only have one day and kids to get off the bus, so I'm limited.
I think it's fun to go and see all the booths from the different manufacturers. There are often new things and then great deals on the older products.
Lots of the booths demo products and techniques and do Make and Takes. Those are fun. If possible, go first thing in the morning. It gets crowded really, really fast! Bring a tote bag to carry your goodies in. I always tuck in a plastic 12x12" envelope to keep my paper in. That way, it doesn't get crunched. Comfy shoes are another must.
Go! You will have a great time. If you take any classes, report back to us. They are often similar classes from show to show, so there may be a good one I want to try out next year!

Okay, I hope I don't sound too harsh, but I attended one of the classes at the CK in Manchester a few years ago and was SO disappointed that I'll never attend a CK class again. It was suppose to be card making and a card swap. When we got to the room, they had us so tightly packed that we were shoulder to shoulder, literally, which gave us no room for crafting. About 20 of us actually had to pitch a fit to have two more tables brought in. Once the tables were provided, people calmed down a bit, but it all took a lot of time away from the class. Then the card making ended up being all punch-out stuff that you put together with adhesive. It was led by someone famous from CK, but I don't remember the name. I might have been Lisa. However, we saw absolutely NO creativity, no skills taught or modeled. NOTHING but stupid punch-out cards. After that was done, they said, "Okay, swap your cards." You were to bring 20 cards, and there must have been 80 women there. People would walk up to you and say, "Want to swap cards?" and could have the ugliest card you've ever seen, but what could you say? I ended up with maybe 10 I liked. Michelle is right about the shopping area though. That was LOTS of fun. I'll go back to that part of a CK event anytime. Demos, being able to touch things you've seen only online or in a catalog, freebies, seeing products from companies you've never heard of. That was worth even suffering through the card making class! Okay, there's my rant.

I didn't consider it a rant. I was laughing while reading because your description was actually bringing images to my mind!! Thanks for the information. I appreicate the honesty which is why I asked in the first place. My husband is hunting that weekend so I think I may give it a try if for no other reason then the fact that he will be out hunting. I would still love to hear everyones stories. Thanks! Cindy

I have attended several CK events - Charlotte, Nashville, Seattle and I would go again for sure.
Space at the classes can be close for sure, but usually adequate for the project you are doing, as you can't take any rolling bags into the classes. They have a check place for you to store your bag.
I don't attend the crops anymore as the venues used round tables and the space wasn't adequate for sure.
Seeing all the vendors is fun and you get lots of ideas for sure.
Go and have fun!

Karen Karen - it's amazing we never bumped into each other. I did Charlotte CKs for 3 years in a row, and I've been to Seattle CKs for the last 4. I think I was at Nashville once...I think. Or maybe that was Tampa - gosh, can't remember. But all of those were teaching events for me - and most of them I put in an appearance at the crops too! LOL...that would have been a small world huh???
