There was a question over on the blog about storing your paper scraps. Here is how I store mine: I use a plastic accordian folder that I found at Wally World or an office supply store. I like the plastic because it doesn't rip--as you can see, it's a bit full! I have a different color in each tab and it's super easy to use. When I clean up my scrap space, I just pop the scrap into the colored slot and I'm done. It takes seconds to clean up. And I do use my scraps a lot. This is 15 years worth of scraps! It especially works well for die cutting because I often want multiple shades of green or blue and there are all the scraps ready for use. So how do you store your scraps? Post a picture and tell us why your method does or doesn't work! Michelle

I don't have a picture to send, but I basically have a box that is suppose to store photos and I have tons of scraps in it. I try to keep it organized by color and print, but usually I just throw stuff in the box.
A friend of mine just started using hanging file folders in a square crate. Each folder has a color, and then she has extras for prints, which she sorts something like holiday, baby, flowers, misc., etc. I think I might go to that system.
Whatever system I use, I need to remember to use my scraps. So often I forget to even look in the box!

I have a rolling cart that has 8 x 11 drawers that I use to store my scraps. Some colors are spilling out of the drawers, lol, I need to regularly go through and purge. Vicki

In the beginning, I kept all my scraps together in a big envelope. But I never used them and the envelope kept getting fuller and fuller. Now, whenever I'm doing a project the first thing I do is check the scraps. Generally I'm looking for a red or a yellow and I just dig through and find what I need. It works for me!
And the basket keeps it upright. It sits right out in the studio and I can pretend it looks good!

No pics of mine either (that would require cleaning it up and acting like it always looked that good ) I keep scraps in one of the drawers of the Crop in Style cubical stack that resides directly behind my swivel chair. I can spin around and dig as often as needed. I use scraps alot but the drawer never gets empty. I think the little buggers multiply in there!! Cindy

I am shocked to admit, I don't have any scraps!
I usually make a few cards when I am done a layout and then that's it. I always forgot to look at what I had and it became unmanageable. Someone suggested that I just have 1 box and through everything in there and purge it it every six months. I will give it some thought.

Karen, I didn't keep scraps forever! Too much paper hanging around. But finally I started when my friends started going through my plastic rubbish bags at scrap retreats to see what I had thrown out. I do have a size limit, though. They must be like 3x2 or larger or I won't keep them.

I do have a size limit, though. They must be like 3x2 or larger or I won't keep them. My scrap rule is 4.25 x 5.5 - a card front size. I used to be 4x4 - a revolution die size - but then I realized how many times I'd grab a hunk of scrap and think "OH darn, that'd be perfect to go on a card front"...so I tweaked my scrap size rule!

That's a good size Susan! I use drawers like you have but I only have 1 stack so each drawer has a couple colors in it and one drawer has patterned paper scraps. I find that the smaller ones end up getting lost in all the larger ones and I have to go in an purge them from time to time. I may switch to a larger save size myself. Oh, and I love the ribbons on the drawers, makes it even easier. I have the same rule as you with my daughter - she can go in there and take whatever she wants but anything else she has to ASK. LOL

Okay, Susan. I'm changing my rules. That will clear out my box A LOT!!!! I figure if a professional can go with a bigger size when it comes to keeping scraps, I can too! And not feel wasteful!

(Ducking as I say this) I keep scraps as small as 2x2. I use them so much for die cutting--I don't feel guilty. As long as I use them, I'm ok with that. If I'm really looking for lots of shades of the same color, I will pull the paper out of that slot and spread them out. Otherwise, I just fish around in the slot. Michelle

I agree with Cat--I love all the ideas that I pick up from the MB!
As I was cleaning up today, I was laughing as I was tucking my little scraps away. But I love that we each have our own way and methods and that we do what works for us.
And that we draw inspiration from each other--ideas, design, storage. What a fun place to hang out!

I keep card-sized scraps, stored in a file folder (similar to Michelle's). After a while, if it gets too full, I pour it all into a grocery-sized bag and give it to a friend who is a very crafty kindergarten teacher. Then I just start all over again...

northerncrafter9, I used: Avery® Clear Full-Sheet Labels for Inkjet Printers 8665, 8-1/2" x 11" Staples also has their own brand of these, and they work just fine, but I can only find them at the staples store. The avery labels can be found all over the web.

I admit - I keep 2x2 scraps. I use them for die cutting, and it makes me so happy when I can use a lot of scraps. I'm a paper hoarder!!! AND PROUD of it!
