Yay, Karen!
Cindy, you win. You life is MUCH more exciting than mine! I spent my night at book club, discussing on our next field trip, we should go to Amhurst (Emily Dickenson's home) or Concord (Louisa May Alcott's home.) Who knew these women were so passionate about Christmas at Orchard House!

Date Night? I think we gave up on having a date night when we brought home our first baby. Cat

We still try to have date nights every few months or so, our 10 year anniversary is tomorrow (since we first met and started dating), so we are going out on Friday. Grandma loves it when we go out (once in a blue moon), so she can spend time with him.
Hugs,
Mila

Mila, I'm so envious! My parents have babysat 3 times in 13 years. Part of that is because we have never lived close to them (we're military) and part of that is just because it's not their thing.
Our guys are old enough now where I will leave them for a few hours when we go out. I LOVE not begging for a sitter!
When my kids were little, we did a swap with another family. This was perfect! They knew DS and all his quirks and it was free. They would take one night a month and we would do the same. DH and I could Christmas shop together, go to a movie, go out to dinner... Heck, we even bought a van one night!

Babysitting for date nights or shopping wasn't my Mom's thing either. Michael stayed with Christy a few times in her dorm room at college when we went on band trips as sponsors. (Michelle was in band) I was the free babysitter on Eugene's side of the family while his brothers and sisters and their spouses did their thing. (Eugene has always worked from daylight til dark most days so we weren't going anywhere.) If it was a family wedding with a dance, our kids went with us. (yes kids were welcome at weddings and dances......so it wasn't a problem) If there was babies and toddlers they was places on pallets on the floor in a save area made with tables. Everybody just watched out for them. Wasn't unusual to see a grown man or woman dancing with a 3 or 4 years or a couple dancing with a small child in their arms. We carried our kids almost everywhere we went; they were good about entertaining themselves. We still tease Michelle about being able to sleep on a rock. Cat

I do feel lucky that my parents are only a 15 minute drive away from me, but I am envious of you that your husband will go Christmas shopping with you . My hubster hates to do any shopping, so it is all on me. He used to go shopping with me before we got married, but now not so much. I am really excited about tomorrow night, I can't believe we have been together for so long, married 5 years this past August, but we have been together for 10, where does the time go The swap sounds like a really good idea!! Cat: That is what my parents did with us, we went with them EVERYWHERE, but now a days you can't bring your kids with you anywhere. Weddings request no kids please, some restaurants don't allow children, even if you go to a Chili's or something, people look at you when your child starts crying. You go into a store and they stare your child down so he doesn't brake anything. It seems like you can't go anywhere with them any more. They don't allow them to be children, so we only go to kid friendly places since we don't go out much. I don't like asking my mom to sit for us often (maybe 2 or 3 times a year) because she works and is tired, but when i do ask her she does love it. Gosh, i do remember the good ol days. LOL We as kids had so much fun back then. Hugs, Mila

We went out with friends and their 15-month-old daughter on Monday night, and of COURSE she acted like any other child of that age. The restaurant is fairly kid-friendly, and no one seemed to mind that she made her presence pretty well known all around her...nothing bad, just 15 months old! We sat back and laughed while we watched her parents trying to make her behave like an adult, since we've been there and done that (and no, it still doesn't work! ;D) What DOES bother us is when the waitress/waiter in a restaurant expects us to do the ordering for our developmentally disabled daughter who is clearly capable of ordering for herself. Usually we will tell the server to ask HER. Milamemories...enjoy that date night, and congratulations!

Diane, how frustrating! I can't believe they didn't tell you this ahead of time! Did you at least get to play with your toys? Don't be too envious of hubby Christmas shopping--that was years ago. I've given up guilting him into shopping. But I did punish him last Christmas! I was at Toys R Us and they had the Barbie Dream House on sale, plus a $10 coupon, plus you got a gift card if you spent over a certain amount, plus I got a free Barbie corvette with a $50 Barbie purchase. Well, DD was 10 and probably won't be playing with Barbie for much longer. I called DH to "discuss", but he didn't take my call. Fine, I'll make the decision! So DD was one happy girl on Christmas morning. I always wanted the Barbie townhouse (I love that elevator!) So now DD has one. And it's HUGE! So the big joke in the family now is that Dad had better answer mom's phone calls. Even DH's secretary is in on the joke. Michelle

Thanks, Michelle! At least the weather cooperated, and the streets have the slurry application. Now we'll just have to wait to see if they open the neighboring street that gives us access to the "outside world" (in one direction there's a curve, and in the other direction, a steep down-hill, so we can't see either end. We'll know it's open when we see cars coming through).
So far, I've only looked at the IRock, but I HAVE finished two layouts from our trip, done 3 loads of laundry, and played for a bit here on the MB.
