Fair warning, Divas - I'm about to rant... This morning, I drove to my LSS to use up a gift certificate that was about to expire. Though the store is less than 10 miles away from my home, it usually takes 30 plus minutes to get there due to traffic congestion (one of the most annoying things about this area!). I was driving along in the passing lane of a 4 lane divided road with a 45 mph speed limit, and ended up boxed in behind a car doing 30mph. When we came to a red light, I noticed the driver was applying her eye make-up. The worst part is, she continued to apply it after the light turned green - yup, driving with one (or maybe no??) hands and applying mascara and eyeliner as she drove!!! Holy Mackerel! Couldn't she pull over and do it, or maybe put on her make-up AT HOME!!!! Needless to say, I was in a foul mood by the time I arrived at the store. Did use up my gift certificate, but wished I stayed home and shopped with Dani instead!! So much more pleasant, less time consuming, better prices, no hassles, no wasting gas... I could go on. Thanks for letting me vent.... I feel better already! Gail

She is setting herself up for an accident. Then you hear all this craziness in the news. These kids texting and getting killed. I like internet shopping because you can't find squat around here.

Gail, don't you just shake your head and wonder? We lived in southern California when we were first married and the commute there was everything you hear about. This was such a common sight. I'm glad that you arrived safely! I have to admit that my most favorite thing about being a SAHM is no commute. I hated that daily anxiety of all the idiots on the road, traffic, would I be on time, would there be a wreck... Ugh. Of course, the trade off is that I spent the day scrubbing floors and toilets. But I did get my paper all put away nicely and I'm working on a spooky project for next week. So I'll take the chores any day! Michelle

unfortunately that's everywhere anymore. We don't have near the traffic but see people doing stupid things all the time and sad thing is, they'll hurt someone else. I was following a car one time and they kept veering off the road, like 8 or 9 times. When I was able to pass, saw they were doing something on the passenger seat (no idea what but they kept reaching over). Glad you got there safely but sorry you were irritated. Vicki

Gail, I'm glad you got home safe and sound. First. I live where is wide open spaces and in my opinion we should have few to no wreaks. But that is not the case.
There is one woman at work that lives a few blocks from me so we both drive 45 minutes to work. Yes there is traffic; you meet 20 to 25 cars on this 2 lane county road. (Not bad) But she starts to work at 5 or 10 minutes until 8:00 (Time to be at work) She drives like a bat out of *ell....she is texting or curling her eye lashes. Her hair is sopping wet and she is bare footed. (this from her own mouth) I have witnessed her leaving town in this shape before and had her pass me while curling her eye lashes and talking on the phone and been glad I was headed in a different direction. (witnessed the dripping hair at work.) She brags about how late she can sleep and still get to work only 5 or 10 minutes late. I have also witness 2....40 something adults driving along in a little compact pickup trading blows. My list can go on and on, but I'm sure we have all seen crazy driving with (crazy) drivers doing all kinds of weird things...reading a book on an open highway....please. Sorry Gail you hit a nerve....and turn my rant loose.
Now everyone understands my Hugs & Prayers...we never know when one of can be taken out by the crazy drivers
Hugs & Prayers Cat

Gail, you can rant any time!
Just the other day I passed a woman putting nail polish on her nails. The sad thing is these so called mature drivers, don't think they are doing anything wrong and often like to brag about it. They will hurt someone else for sure

In my opinion adults should teach by example. If parents drive while texting, reading, fixing hair, putting on makeup, fighting, and yes painting nails they are teaching their children to do the same. Another example: same woman who drives crazy.....her son's school called this last week because he had told his teacher to go _ _ _ _ herself...(8 yrs old)...and this woman acted shocked and told them she had no idea where he heard such language.....I thought give me a break!!! That's one of her favorite phrases. ( at least once every 20 to 30 min) I'm sorry I really didn't mean to rant.......I just can't figure out what some people are thinking. (sorry if I STOMPED on anyone toes but I don't understand ) Cathy

It is completely true. Kids soak up what they see us doing, saying acting like little spongues. They will copy our good and bad. They understand more than we think they do.

Exactly!
The best (and maybe sometimes the worst) role models are the ones they observe most often! Let's see...would that be the parents, by any chance?
Does anyone remember the part of "Jean Shepherd's Christmas Story", where Ralphie got his mouth washed out with soap for repeating a word that he had heard quite often from his dad (but he blamed a friend for saying it)?

Wow! Guess I hit a nerve with this one... Thanks for sharing your stories, everyone. I've seen texting, eating, brushing hair, talking on a cell phone - that one's becoming so common its scary! My DH was behind someone talking on a cell phone (NOT hands free) and eating - couldn't figure out how he was steering - with his knees?!! People seem to forget they're in charge of a few tons of moving mass that could really hurt someone. Sure wish they would at least outlaw cellphone use and texting while driving - it scares the pants off me!
Shopping online in my jammies - priceless. ;D Gail

Oh, and how about just leaving it on, sitting on the kitchen counter? My DH is getting much better about turning his new Droid off when it's not in use, but for a few days, I'd be walking by it, and it would start "talking" to me! I know it's probably considered to be a novel thought, but isn't it okay to leave it turned OFF?

Or when they come into the store and ask you a technical question about their pool and while you are explaining they get a call and answer it Or at the register while you are collecting their money and you have to wait for their call to end with a line of people waiting to be helped!!! We TOTOALLY survived before we had cell phones. Has no one heard of CALLING SOMEONE BACK.

Rude and dangerous.......I personally would feel awful if I cause injury or worse to someone, but if I did it because I was reckless or careless it would kill me. I vote for hand free phones in all cars. Cat

I'm with you ladies! The restroom conversations really kill me - what does the person on the other end of the line think when they hear the flush?!! Gail

When I hearing them talking in a stall, I get tickled and start laughing....so there are two nuts in the restroom.....1 sounds like they are talking to the toilet and the other is laughing at it. All we would need is someone sing to it.....and they would haul us all off Cat

We were in a small restaurant one time, and the woman near the middle of the room was talking so loudly that all of us in the other booths were adding our comments to each other...lots of raised eyebrows and laughter! (And the woman on the phone was totally oblivious to what was going on around her! )

Yes, sometimes hearing only one side of a conversation can cause all kinds of comedians to come out of the wood work. We have some in our family who can send our table into giggles with their running commentary of the other side; the side that can't be heard. (and they are usually quite, nothing much to say type people) The cell phone people are non the wiser. Cat

Ooh, Diane and Cat, that sounds like fun!! Think I'll try it the next time! It is crazy how people seem to discuss the most private issues on a cell phone in public... I was shopping in Wally World a few months ago, and a woman was discussing (in a very loud voice) her colonoscopy results!!! First of all, what friend would really want to hear the gory details?? Secondly, her fellow shoppers sure weren't happy to hear them. I thought people wanted their health information to be private!!! Gail
