Well, this is one deadline that I'm not going to make. I'm so sorry! I need to pick up an item (how's that for cryptic? ) and I can't get it until tomorrow. That is if I can leave my house tomorrow. We are supposed to get 15-20" of snow in the next 48 hours. Lucky, lucky us! So I promise to get these off as soon as I can. I've been working on various stuff all day. It's been a crazy time around here!

Mine went out yesterday but Dallas is completely shut down right now due to the sleet we received last night. Even the airport is closed! That NEVER happens! I'm so gratful that I work from home 'cause it's nasty nasty nasty out there right now. We're going to Hawaii on Friday, I hope we can get out, they're calling for a bit more snow this week. Barb

*s* Dawn and Michelle I'm not worried about it. We'll get out of Dallas. By Friday this won't be so bad. The airport is open now and we have a direct flight. Even if the flight is delayed, we'll still get to Hawaii sometime on Friday. I lived there for several years so this feels like a homecoming. My husband has never been there so I'm really looking forward to showing him "my" islands. Barb

Hawaii is a place that I would LOVE to go to someday I am pretty much a home body- I have lived in this house for 15 years now and do not have any plans on moving any time soon. But Hawaii sounds like a wonderful place to visit!!! I hope you have a safe and fabulous trip. Cindy

Cindy: I loved everything about Hawaii. I'm from Montana so I've done my time in the cold. I knew that I wouldn't miss the seasons or get island fever. When we moved, I cried all the way to Georgia. Barb

Hawaii sounds like the perfect place right now, and I'm sure that many of you Divas, who are snowed/iced in at the moment would beat me to the front of the line! I've never been to the 50th state, either, but hope to play on those beaches someday!

Oh, Hawaii sounds so good right now. I'm glad you should get out on Friday. Whew!
We got about 6" of snow last night and another 6" this morning. Now it's sleeting out. What a mess. School closed early yesterday and it's a snow day today. I am SO over this snow!
Needless to say, I didn't stop anywhere yesterday. I went to physical therapy and it had just started snowing. When I came out 45 minutes later--wowza! I just came home. It took me 65 minutes to make a 25 minute trip. And I never went over 20 mph. Yep, next time I'm just staying home. This girl does NOT drive in the snow! Some day I will get a chance to do errands. Some day!

I would loooooovvvvveeee to go to Hawaii. Not just because of this yucky winter but because it is just one of those places I've always wanted to go!!
We got ice, ice, and more ice overnight. School was delayed 2 hrs. and we didn't have any power. Not sure when it went off - it was on at 5am when we got the call from the school about the 2hr. delay but it was off at 7am so somewhere in between it went out. It didn't come back on until about 1:15pm. At least the temp. was about 32 degrees or so and we didn't freeze in the house with no heat.

Gosh everyone, I know this winter has been a miserable one for so many people, it really hits home when you talk to folks that are actually living through it. I will think warm thoughts of all of you while I'm gone. I promise.
Stay warm.

Ok, I successfully made it to town today. What an adventure! The snow is piled so high that people turning out onto the road can't see. So it's a bit like dodgeball out there. And there is another storm heading here for tomorrow. Snow is now a four letter word in our house! I got my item and I'll send the banners out tomorrow. I'm sorry this is taking so long! But I think the addition is perfect--it's exactly how I imagined it!

Oh no, Cat! Did you have a pipe burst? At least I've been spared that. You have the dubious honor of "winning" the snow wars. I hope that is all resolved soon and you warm up!
We have ice dams and water coming into weird places. The window sill in our bedroom was overflowing this morning. Ugh. I'm so over this winter!

Michelle, according to my husband and son a 20 foot section burst into splinters. Water run full tilt for about 6 to 8 hours. Before our son was born we moved an old farm house into town and connected it to an old 2 room house. We turn the 2 room house into a kitchen, dinning room with a small utility room. Since the house had been built before indoor plumbing it sits close to the ground. Husband put in all the plumbing through holes in the floor and cabinets are built-in over that area. We poured a footing and dug a trench the length of the farm house about 3 feet deep. That part has living room, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Well Monday when temps dropped and winds started to blow like crazy the water froze in the kitchen and utility room; (we thought it was froze were the pipes go into the wall for the kitchen sink and washer ) but we still had water in the bath rooms. A Pain, but still better than no water or so I thought. Around 2:00 am Thursday I heard a noise and asked husband if he heard it. He said it was the heater getting ready to kick on; sure enough it started. I went back to sleep. At 5:00 am there was NO WATER. Well our city is known for cutting off the water during freezing weather......husband called the city at 9:00 am to find out when they would turn the water back on. They hadn't shut it off. He went out shut the water at the meter and went to investigate. Water was starting to run from under both parts of the house ( yes both parts). You know the rest......pumping water.... now son is on his stomach digging a trench under the dinning room, kitchen and utility room......... Sighhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Thank goodness our son isn't bothered by close quarters and knows how to fix plumbing. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Oh!!!!!!!!!! I know it could be worse......we are lucky....it all can be fixed.......Think I'll go and make some cards.....(can't sleep yet) Cat

Oh, Cat...how awful for you! I admire your attitude, because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be so philosophical about it...at least not for a while! This weather is just crazy, everywhere! I hope the pipes in your home are repaired quickly and the water damage is as minimal as possible! Take care...

Thank you ladies for your kind thoughts and words! It's just life! LOL I was feeling totally useless and helpless, all the hard work is falling on DS. I wish you ladies could meet him and you would understand how I feel. He is so good......and DH and I can't help him with this. DH has Ankylosing Spondylitis and can't bend or raise his arms very far....so crawling under the house is out of the question. I have allergies that makes breathing in small spaces hard......besides the creepiness of being under there...plus DS and DH would have cows if I tried......so what do I do........I let my feelings of helplessness flow out here on the MB to all my friends. There are worse things that could happen......I just had to let it out...... Thanks for being so wonderful to me! Cat

Dawn, I love your pennant!!! Spring and sweet strawberries fresh off the vines ...hummy. I can't wait to see everyone pennants.
My pipes are all replaced and everyone is snug and warm. My guys are watching the Super Bowl. Laundry is getting done and a pot of homemade chili is simmering. I'm getting a head start on all my meals for the week. I've already cooked 5lbs of ground beef and have it packaged and in the freezer. I'll cook stew meat after while so all I will have to do is add the vegetables later in the week. That way I'll have time to work on some valentine cards in the evenings after I get off work. Things are back to normal...... Thank you everyone for your kind words of support.
Hugs Cat
Thanks

Ok, where did you see Dawn's pennant? Cat, I'm so glad to hear that life is back to normal for you. Your men have earned their Super Bowl night! I make meals ahead of time, too. Usually before lunch, though. That way, I can quick finish things up if we are out for the kids activities and such. It's so much healthier and cheaper! Plus, I really buy into the theory that the family that eats dinner together is closer and the kids have a better relationship with us! My pennants will go into the mail tomorrow. Thanks so much for your patience, guys! I really do appreciate it. Esp since I'm the sort of person who usually is very on time and knows the value of a deadline! Now that they are boxed up and ready to go, I'll spill the beans. I put some butterflies on the pennant and I wanted to put them on a curly wire coming off the banner. And the wire I had wasn't sturdy enough to hold them up. On Friday I found exactly what I needed and it turned out exactly how I had envisioned it. I'm so much happier now!

I want to see Dawn's pennant, too! Cat, that your guys can watch the Superbowl! They've really earned it! ***In case any of you are interested, Aaron Rodgers graduated from high school less than a mile from our home, and then played football at the community college where my DH worked, before going on to UC Berkeley. And, as they say, the rest is history... (Yes, we have a small Packers flag in our flower bed! )

Michelle, when I have time I try to cook on Saturday afternoons....but they didn't finish with the water until dark last night. Good thing cause we woke up to a very wet snow this morning. It's snowed all day today.....but it hasn't been near as cold as it was last week. Word around town is a lot of people had broken water pipes so I hope the really cold weather is over. I like to have stew meat, ground beef, chicken breast cook ahead and frozen. It makes life much simpler for me. Just thaw and add the other ingredients for chicken or taco salads, enchilada casserole, quesadillas, spaghetti, hash, vegetable beef soup, chicken noodle soup and etc. Cat Oh Dawn's pennant? I seen it on her blog.....well I assumed it was for this swap.....maybe I was mistaken?
