Ok...so call me crazy, but I think Black Friday shopping is fun. Besides the stores that will be open late on Thursday (so unsporting) I think the earliest opening here is Kohl's at 3 am Friday so that's probably where I'll be starting. Anyone else going to be braving the cold, crazy people, and early hours this Friday? If so...how early are you planning on starting and where are you going (besides scrapyland.com)?

i'm headed out. If you go out with a good attitude and see it as a fun adventure, you'll have a good time. I have gone out for the past 15 years or so and I haven't had a bad experience yet.

Our Kohl's is opening at 3:00 a.m., too. Is there REALLY a 3:00 in the morning? Yawn...

I can't believe they're opening at 3 this year...last year it was 4 which is still super early.
I've gone for the past 6 years. My hubby was working in retail and I had to drop him off before the store opened one year so I decided to stay up and stand in line at Target, and I've gone every year since. I still don't get why some people get upset at the checkout lines...there is no avoiding them on that day so ya just go with the flow. I've met a lot of interesting people standing in line for the register.

Long checkout lines are simply a "given" at this time of year!
And I agree...there's no point in getting all grumpy (just because a person is a little short on sleep! ;D). Being pleasant should make it nicer for everyone...it's a choice whether or not to be in the stores at some unbelievable hour!

I have always gone out for some bargains not at 3 am though but not this year. I broke my toe last week and have to wear a boot for 6-8 weeks and I don't think getting out in crowds is a good idea. It is okay as long as I don't bump it so I will only be shopping with Dani this year here at Scrapyland and I plan to sleep in as I am having 23 for Thanksgiving this year and I plan on taking it easy on Friday if I survive Thanksgiving.

Oh...ow, ow, ow!!! That's not fun at any time of the year, but especially not now! Take good care of yourself, and let some of those 23 guests give you lots of help!

uh no way, no how. Nothing that good to get me out in the traffic and long lines. I'll sleep in, shop here and spend time with the family. Much more fun that traffic and long lines. Notice I hate traffic and long lines, lol. Vicki

I am NOT a morning person!!! I much rather stay up till midnight or longer but cannot get up early. My people know not to even call me before 9 am on fear of death My poor kids if they ever woke up in the middle of the night Momma is not very nice but I did feel bad later that day. My sister on the other hand is going out a 2am to the outlet center that opens a midnight and then just staying up and travelling to the next places as they open. Crazy!! Cindy

My SIL goes out every year and is pretty much done shopping by dinner. I said it on the other thread, but I think it's way more fun to BF shop with a friend! I've done it a few times, but I really don't need anything this year. The boys want specialty camping stuff that I can order online and DD is getting a cell phone. I have a few other things for her and I'm pretty much done. I ordered wreaths for the older people and Omaha Steak for the inlaws. Thinkgeek.com takes care of my dad and brother and DS. My stepmom and grandmother get GC from the garden center. My stepmom likes to get a new variety of plant each year and Grandma loves flowers. It works for the people who have everything! And I can really make some beautiful GC holders. I did little beaded bags for them one year that were darling... So, I'll think of y'all when I'm in my nice warm heated bed. Shop Victoriously! I do enjoy Black Friday shopping!!! I get out early and usually end up waiting in line in one store along the way but if I time the store openings right I am able to just run in and pick up the things I'm there for and then I can usually get out pretty quick, as long as I don't start looking around and shopping. I think that is the key for me - just get the Black Friday deals I'm there for and get out!!!! I usually make it home by 9-10am with lots of shopping finished. Folks are a lot of fun on Black Friday too - all smiles and fun to talk to while waiting in line. At least that is my experience. Last year, in one store, I shared a shopping cart with a couple from Chicago, here to visit their kids who came to college here and never moved back. I got a great deal on a Kitchenaid mixer for my daughter and there were no carts left. We waited in line together and had a nice chat. (Those Kitchenaid mixers are heavy!!!)

I also enjoy black friday shopping. I don't think that I will be going this year as, currently it's 80 degrees in my part of Texas and it's supposed to drop almost 50 degrees by tomorrow with just about freezing temps and wind on Friday morning. I think I'll stay home by the fireplace with my man and watch movies all day. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Barbara

We had temperatures in the mid-20's overnight, and it's supposed to stay like that right through the weekend...the highs will be mid-40's.
I'm certain this doesn't seem too unusual for some of you, but for northern California, it is a bit extreme for this time of year. Maybe in January, but even then it's rare!
ETA: And I just heard a "bundle up advisory" for the Black Friday shoppers!

I agree with casunflower. It's too cold!
I'll be up early, though, bundled up in my robe and drinking some hot tea - surfing away on the internet!
