My bunny thumper died last night. He has been running in our backyard for like the past month, but Saturday night some mean neighbor cats discovered him. He gets along great with my cat because my cat was a kitten when they were introduced, so my bunny was used to a cat and would just run up to him. My guess is he did the same to these other cats and one of them scratched his eye. When we found him Sunday morning he just had gunk around his eye and looked scared so we didn't know it was too serious. I put him back in his hutch outside after I cleaned around his eye. We went to visit my in laws for about 4 hours or so and I held him for awhile and it seemed he was having a hard time holding his head up but thought he just needed rest. I put him in his cage inside about 9pm and at 11 pm went to check on him and he was gone. The thing about rabbits is there's not a very big time window to get them help before it's too late and I didn't realize an infection in the eye could kill him

so very sad We lost a beloved dog about 10 years ago and still get sad sometimes when we think about him. Most of our memories are happy, but it was our fault that he got out of the yard so.... Cindy

Sorry to hear about your loss Noelle. I know they heart ache you are going through! My DD Jewel Lizard died last week and I took it harder than she did. My DH was in bed but I woke him to tell him that I had remove the aquarium from her room. He gets up at 6:00 a.m. and was gone to work by the time I got downstairs. I couldn't find Jewel anywhere so I called him at work. He told me he put her out in the garbage as it was garbage day and he didn't want her smelling. I sobbed my heart out. We have aways buried our small pets and taken Cats and Dogs to the Vets. I just couldn't stand to think of Jewel in the Garbage Landfill. I really want to replace her and I was thinking about 2 bunnies for the yard as we have a huge 5' area under our deck where we had pebble gravel put in and a 4" X 4" barrier put around it so that the gravel won't travel. I though of fencing in this area to keep out predators and putting 2 female bunnies in there. My DH thinks we still have enough pets as we have 7 others. I am missing misting Jewel each day as she loved a moist climate so I looked after that part of her up keep to be sure it got done. Sorry again Noelle. Pets are a true extension of the family we get so attached to.

Aww Noelle! I'm sooo sorry!! When I was young, our dog got his eye caught in the chainlink fence and it got damaged pretty badly. He wasn't gone overnight but even after vet care you could see him deteriorate quickly. You will feel better after some time passes. I wish I could make it better for you now!!! *HUGS*

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am sure shock played a major factor as well..I imagine the poor thing just couldn't handle being attacked either..not that I would. to you and your family

Noelle, it took us 11 months between dogs. I was looking for a yellow lab mix. I knew that's what I wanted. I would look at other dogs, but they were never just right. But when I first laid eyes on Big Dog, I knew she was ours. The very second I saw her. And she truly has been the best dog ever. So go check out the bunnies--you will know the right one when you see it.

This is the boy bunny This is the girl bunny. They are only 8 weeks old, so I can wait a month before I need to seperate them if I can't get them fixed before then.

Sorry to hear about your pet bunny, they're fun! I'm glad you were able to get a new one to help replace the loss.
When we lived in Warrenton, we had rabbits and my brother showed them in 4H and the Oregon state fair. I got a blue bunny and he knew how to get out of his cage, he would play with a wild rabbit.
