I only ask because the picutres shows the extended but the description says standard

Thanks Michelle but that Sizzix description says it comes with the extended Sliding tray and extended adapter pad, etc...so that makes me think it is the extended plate and not the standard..thus why I am confused because of Dani's description in the store.

hmmm... I suspect that Sizzix doesn't know it's own terminology. It says that it comes with everything that you need to cut a BSP die--that seems to imply that all the platforms/bases/cutting mats are the largest size.
I'd email Dani directly. He doesn't always check over here daily and he's the best person to answer the question. He's like the great and powerful Oz--all knowing! ;D

Well I did call Sizzix directly to at least find out the difference between the Westminster and the Reg BSP..so got that figured out. I never knew buying something could prove to be so hard.

So what is the difference? I've eyed those quilting dies a few times. The Dresden one would have been great when I was making my Dresden fan quilt!
Did they clear up the mystery of the mats? Surely they would come with what you need to cut the SBP dies? Now I'm curious!
And repeating to myself, "you do not need this. you do not need this!"

Well the Westminster one supports the 25 " steel dies. Those dies are strictly for those insterested in quilting. I just was on the fence between needing that extended plate or not. The reg BSP will cut all the big XL dies. She told me the mat surface supports 12 x 14 which the dies can go up to 13" so they will fit.
I was so confused because I kept seeing the extended plates for the standard BSP and thought why would you spend more $$$ to get the extended plates if you just bought the machine that came with those to begin with.
I guess they came out with the other ones for those people who had already purchased the standard BSP and wanted to use the quilter dies.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had just one machine instead of so many choices. It is confusing. Glad you found your answer. Call the company. Good idea. Deborah

Oh! I get it now. The extended plates are 26" long. I never looked at the dimensions for those plates--I just assumed they were 12" x 6". That really did take some detective work!
Deborah, the BSP does cut them all. To my knowledge, it's the only machine out there that cuts all the dies from all the companies. It takes a lot of sandwich combos, but it's big enough to accomodate the long dies, the steel rule dies, the wafer thin dies. The only drawback is that it's big and it's expensive. My LSS in Boston had one. I loved to walk by that thing and pet it. I have the room for one, but just can't justify it. But a girl can dream about it!

Well being the proud owner of a Big Shot Pro the answer is.
The machine is approx. 24 x 15. It comes with the metal base tray which is used by itself when you cut accucute dies. Then it has Big Shot Pro adapter pad and one acrylic cutting pad that is 12 x 14, (you need these for cutting the regular Sizzix and Tim dies) and two mylar shims. It also has a Crease pad included.
Copied from Sizzix website. "Any shape-cutting or embossing product thinner than a Bigz Die requires the Big Shot Pro Solo Platform ". I think this is about $30.00
In order to cut metal dies you have to purchase seperately Big Shot Pro solo thin die adapter. (this one is about $25.00) (until recently this did not exist, they were shocked to learn that people used this machine to cut wafer dies) Really that was the response to a friend who inquired if they could make the adpater got.
If you do not want to cut the largest Grand Spellbinder size dies any of the platforms and cutting plates you have for your Big Shot or Kick will work.
I bought a second 12 x14 cutting plate and have yet to use it. Since it takes 2 cutting pads to make your sandwich I am not sure why they only give you one, after all the machine is rather spendy. I use my old cutting plates as Sizzix suggested that you use a cutting plate appropriate to the size of the die you are using.

Actually for the Westminster BSP, they provide the extended plates which are longer than the standard BSP plates. So they are 27 inches long compared to 15 long (the sliding tray that is)

So I am learning something here. When I did my research on large die cutting machines the BSP Westminster never appeared. I would never need the bigger plates for what I do (or don't do in most cases). However cutting my designs for quilting easier, might persuade me to try quilting again after 35 years. hummmm! I did notice that the cutting plates in both 26 inch and 14 inch x 12 are approximately the same price at this one site I clicked on.

Well the Westminster is supposed to be more because of the extended plates but yeah if you aren't quilting (which I am not) then no need to buy that one. The standard or reg BSP will fit Sizzix's BIG XL dies..which is all I cared about.

It amazes me all the different size cutting plates, machines and other tools out there that appear week after week in the paper arts field.
I just wanted one machine only that would cut all size dies that would be commonly used in paper crafting. I was tired of trying to keep up with all these manufactures that kept coming out with cool dies and a machine to match so you could use them. If you had all the machines available you would need to have a warehouse studio and some how remodeling so I had a 3600 sq. ft. studio turned DH a little green.

I've seen those long quilting templates. They are HUGE! And heavy!
