I didn't want all you swappers to be bored over the holidays (LOL), and wanted to come up with something quick and easy for us to share with each other, s-o-o-o-o-o... (drum roll, please) Announcing the: First Annual Scrapyland Virtual Christmas Card Swap!! Here's the deal: If you're making your own cards this year, why not share your Christmas wishes with us by posting a photo or two of your creation on this thread? It's a good way to "send" a card to all of us in the Scrapyland community, while saving a ton of postage!! ;D And who knows, you just might receive comment-love from some of the Divas!! There's really no rules here, other than that you've made the card, so why not give it a try?? If you have questions about posting photos, Susan did a video recently, and here's the link: scrapyland.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=8413. Hope you decide to join in!! Gail

Here is an actual card that I wipped together using some dies that I have never used before. (and a few scraps) I "borrowed" the idea from the recipe swap- thanks Christy Cindy

Cindy, you go girl! You are a crafting genie this week. I love the cards and that gift card book is so fun. That would be fun to put together for DH's parents. They don't need a thing, so I try to give them cards so that they can go out to eat and splurge a bit.

Sure!! The cover chipboard is 3"x3 3/4" The envelopes are QK D-G-0021- that is the number on the die For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of this die its the 2nd largest of the set of 4. I guess they are the library pocket envelopes?? I cut a 1 1/2" wide strip of black and folded it in half to make a 3/4 " piece. Using the Zutter Bind it all, I cut the holes along the folded edge. I glued them into the envelopes. The gift cards are a nice tight fit. The wire is 3/4". The holly is old Basic Grey pieces that I have had for years. Thanks Everyone, Cindy

OOOHHH!!! Cindy, I love your gift card holder. It's so cute. I need a gift for a teenager (boy); for the life of me I can't come up with an idea for him....may have to resort to a gift card and your card holder would make it special. Your card is really cute too. (I can see Christy's influence too; that die does make a really cute tree.) Cindy if you go over to the recipe swap you can see a photo of us with our aprons and recipe books. Cat

Mom asked me to post the Christmas project she did for the people at her work. She did several of these, so she didn't have time to make Christmas cards! To make them, she cleaned out several pickle jars, then lined the inside with pink vellum. She wrapped copper wire around the top, wire that my brother pulled out of an old TV. She curled the ends of the wire and embellished with beads she recycled from old jewelry. Dad cleaned and painted the lids with copper paint. Then mom cut out snowflakes using the Silhouette vellum vinyl, though she used her traditional dies and Vagabond. Finally, she inserted an LED tealight.

And here's my sister's card. (Peterpan/Christy) I was in awe when I opened mine from her. After stamping the village image and letting it dry, she coated the whole piece of paper in watermark ink and coated with clear embossing powder. Then she came back with more ink around the edges and coated with a clear, glittered powder, so there's a bit of frost around the edges of the images. This process makes the stamped image look as if it's laminated. She painted a poinsettia with silver paint and added a blue gem embellishment to the center.

Yes ladies, I managed to save over 20 jars to make these recycled jar candles. I also made 75 of the Black Friday Bakery Boxes with Merry Christmas embossed on them and filled them with Dove Chocolates and Peppermint Taffy. I gave the candles to the people in my department and all the rest got Bakery Boxes. I used the Die-versions snowflake and 4 of LS snowflakes for each jar. They were a blast to make. Cat MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE........and remember to let your little light shine!

WOW!!! Cat and Christy these projects are totally amazing! Cat, I love the idea of recycling the jars, and they are beautiful - and recycling the wire and the beads - no one would guess these works of art are made from re-purposed "ingredients". You are SO creative and talented. Your co-workers are lucky to get such gorgeous gifts! Christy, your card is stunning! It looks so professional and perfect. I love that you painted the poinsettia, and the techniques you used to stamp the winter scene. Awesome!! Gail

Gail, thank you for your kindness!!!! I enjoyed myself thoroughly making the jars. I wish I could send everyone here one. The bakery boxes where fun to make but I loved doing the jars more. They are a reminder to me to let my light shine even if I'm different and don't fit in their world. Being different Can be a Good Thing!!! {Afterwards I did see several of them regarding me with different and thoughtful looks, whatever that may mean.} dear friend! Cat

Cat, the jars are lovely! That's an idea that I will be happy to (cough, cough) "borrow" from you for next year, although I won't have access to some of the trims that you used. (I have a whole year to find something else). What a creative family you have!

Casunflower, I'm more than happy to share this idea. While I used recycled items for the most part.....they all can be purchased. I used Velcro to hold the battery operated tea lights in place. (my son idea) The jars are Vlasic pickle jars (straight sides) If you have more questions let me know. Cat
