Oh thanks for the heads up. With so many people buying stuff online right now I can see how easily people would click on that link.

Dumb hackers. Someone got into Comcast's email system yesterday and sent tons of spam through my email (and lots of other customers!) Susan said it was quite, um, graphic and Crafty Girl thanked me nicely for thinking of her, but that she was going to pass. I have to admit, my email password wasn't that strong. I figured there wasn't any money involved and who cares about a SAHM's email? Ick!

Just for the record...most delivery services (USPS/UPS/and most of the time, Fedex) don't notify you directly of a package...the business will notify you of a shipment, and provide a link for tracking. This is to try and prevent the very thing that the USPS alert is all about!
And Michelle, I'm so sorry!
A remotely similar thing happened to me years ago... The local court commissioner was sending out jury duty notices (including me), but accidentally included my name as a defendant on each notice! They quickly corrected it, and assured me that I would not be called for jury duty for at least 5 years. (It's kind of difficult to sue the court system! ;D)

Susan said it was quite, um, graphic and Crafty Girl thanked me nicely for thinking of her, but that she was going to pass. I have to admit, my email password wasn't that strong. I figured there wasn't any money involved and who cares about a SAHM's email? Ick! the funny thing is - I've gotten the exact same "link" from two other Scrapy Landers this week - maybe the hackers are targeting crafters this week! HAHA And the email itself wasn't graphic - it was a link to a Canadian Pharmacy selling Viagra. {What are you Canadians doing with such an overabundance of Viagra that you're selling it online - LOL LOL LOL!!} I always click on the links in these emails - are fascinating to me, and I love seeing what product they are promoting {it seems it's always a pharmacy!!}. but - it was interesting that the exact same link/website was in three different emails, from three different ladies here this week. And the oh-so-fun thing is how spam works - because the emails all came to every email address I have: one to my stampy land email, one to scrapy land emails, one to DT email, one to personal email. It' makes me laugh - I'm totally fascinated by how spam works. Obvious they sell product this way, otherwise they wouldn't keep doing it. So people do click on it and say "oh hey, I've been meaning to stock up on that and order it from an unknown, unsolicited, foreign pharmacy". It's fascinating!!! To remedy the situation if it happens to your account - just go into the mail site and change your password. It's an easy fix, and it's not worth getting worked up about. It happens to everyone's account, to all servers, and it's going to start happening more and more often.

Who would ever buy from some unknown place that is in unsolicited email? Who???
It took me over 2 hours to get it all straightened out with Comcast, but that was mostly their fault. They couldn't find my acct by phone number, cell number, street address, my name, hubby's name, my SS#, his SS#... They were going to give up and I kept telling them, "I have a Comcast email acct, the phone is Comcast and you take my money every month. We're in there somewhere. I finally pulled an old bill to get my customer number. So I had the guy reset all my passwords (my acct and both kids' accts) and then I went back and reset them again. And then reset the passwords in the phone, and the iTouches. What a pain! That was really not how I wanted to spend a couple hours when I already had so much to do!

Ooooh, a fling with a Nigerian prince--lucky you! I really, truly hate the time suck that couputer problems seem to cause. But I was pretty proud of myself that I solved it AND talked my Dad down off the ledge. He was in quite a tizzy!

Another thing to remember about those spammich links is that there are usually tons of ads on the page you click to go to. That is a huge revenue stream for those "companies", even if not one Viagra tablet is sold. Just opening that page creates profits for them, and much more so if any of the ads/links beyond that are clicked on as well!
