My favorite trimmer is the Fiskars Rotary trimmer. Bought it on a recommendation from a friend and it to pieces!! I'm still on my first blade and have been using it for around 1.5 years!! I also have the scoring blade and use it a ton. There are other decorative blades you can get too (i.e. deckle, scallop, zigzag type...like the old decorative scissors). There are also different sizes of base you can get with this trimmer, I have the small version (maybe 7 inches wide by 13 inches in height) and I think there's like a 12x12 version. ONLY drawback: if you're not careful when changing blades, you can easily get a pretty bad cut. This happened once....I'm very careful now!! Happy shopping!! Pam

After using a MM trimmer for years and finally becoming frustrated with faded grid lines, uneven cuts and frayed edges I purchased a 18" Rototrimmer. I am sooooo happy with it!..Best trimmer I ever used/bought. It is too large to take to crops but I am ok with that, its professional grade so the grid lines are etched into the base, it cuts chipboard and slices the thinest shred of paper with no frayed edges whatsoever.
For crops I still use my portable Fiskars trimmer, although I am due an upgrade since I have had it for years and now they have improved new versions out there.

I have the Fiskars trimmers (both the large and small) with the wire guide next to the cutting blade. When Michelle/Basketlady first mentioned these, I went straight to Michaels with my 40% coupon, and I've never regretted it! They're light-weight, easily storable, and the replacement blades are easy to find.

Diane posted when I was looking for this old thread. It gives good reviews of a number of trimmers. Here's my quote about the trimmer and a photo. I still really like this trimmer. It lasted about a year, and then my blade came off the track and I broke the wire. I thought that I'd just use it without the wire, but I found that I used the wire too much and got another one. I think the new one cuts better. I suspect it's the plastic parts--they just loosen up and wear over time. So I guess for me, a trimmer lasts about a year. But I kept the old one for when DD has a friend over and is crafting. scrapyland.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=6438

Now, if I were to replace this trimmer, I may just go with the American Crafts trimmer. It's pretty small and the parts seem to be all metal. Which would help with accuracy, but it makes for one heavy trimmer. It's slightly larger than the Fiskar's trimmer above, but it's still pretty compact. It has a rotary blade and cuts 6" without extending the arm. I've heard the cartridges are easy to snap in and out and they store in the trimmer base. americancrafts.com/category.php?id=40

Michelle, you know I like that trimmer, too!! I had to get a second one as well - but it was my fault! I stupidly replaced the blade with the wrong type, and proceeded to cut ( ) the wire guide!!! No question that I would replace it with the same model - this is tops for accuracy in a lightweight trimmer in my book. If there's no concern about size or weight, for my money you can't beat the Tonic full size guillotine trimmer. It's my go-to for matboard, chipboard and other heavy-duty jobs, but it cuts paper like a dream as well. Dina, hope this helps! Gail

Wow! This is the trimmer I use too! I have had a lot of trimmers in my day and the Fiskar's trimmer with the wire has been the best trimmer so far for me. I have the bigger one for home, and the smaller one when I go to crops. Love the way it cuts paper, cardstock, and pictures.

Any craft store near you will probably have them. Stores such as Target and Wal-mart tend to have their house brands instead, but it probably wouldn't hurt to check there, if either of these are "super stores".

Dina, I know you are out of the country. I sent you a PM with some online sources. You can access it by logging in and the link is at the top of the page, in the center. It says "Messages."
