so - do you all want to hear the big big news from QuicKutz/LC... do you do you do you? ?? I mean, it's cool....so I figured you might want to know about this... GENIUS! Really, it is - I mean, that's the name - "Genius, the ultimate platform" And guess what ladies - hang on, wait for it...IT'S MAGNETIC!!!! It's teal blue, and it's the size basically of the Epic Six platform - but it's got magnets in the base like the old 12 Rev platform...MAGNETIC!!!! And you'll notice I just called it a platform...which means...IT'S UNIVERSAL!! It fits in the Cuttlebug...yep, I used it. It fits in the Big Shot...yep, I tried it myself also. And it fits in the Vagabond and the Epic...naturally. And it's MAGNETIC!!!!! It's a three piece set - the teal magnetic base, a really awesomely thick cutting pad - it looks grey like the old Epic cutting pad, but it's about 3x as thick. They showed me the one that has had 1,000 dies run through it {and I could tell with the cut marks!!} and it was NOT curved into a "C" like the old Epic mats. No baking our mats anymore!! HAHAHAH Then there is a thinner mat for using embossing folders. It's UNIVERSAL, it'll make any machines you're using a magnetic based cutting system!!! Let's all say it together ladies - GENIUS!!!!! hahahahah - I'm so excited! Okay - one more thing...and it's a machine...I'll post a picture today...it's called Evolution. Notice the similarity in names? QK all but said that Epic was an OOPS - hahahahha - and this machine is hot looking. It's sexy and sleek looking - it's similar in looks to the Big Shot...long base so the platforms don't tip off...it's medium grey and has a nice handle...big ol handle too. It's only a prototype here at the show, so it's a early summer release...but I think it's awesome that the Epic Six is going buh-bye!!! that's it from here, this morning, my feet are killing me and my back is aching...I only walked one aisle of the floor yesterday...but LC was my first stop! more later...pictures, I promise...I failed big time yesterday on taking pictures!!!

"OPPS" is the least they could say! I really hope that people will enjoy it! I am very interested in the magnetic platform! I love my revolution for my regular dies and the vagabond, not sure if I could switch to another machine. I did get a revolution on sale as a back up!

I agree with tristanznina/Cheryle! I like the idea of a magnetic platform, etc., but also don't feel a huge need for another machine at the moment. (I suppose I could be persuaded otherwise at a later time, but I'm perfectly happy with my Revolution, Vagabond, and Cuttlebug!)
What is the weight of the Evolution, compared to other machines on the market?
My Epic is already in the "goodbye forever" pile!

I agree ladies - I think this machine will be perfect for people who are still just using the Revolution...if that's all they have, this will be the ideal upgrade for them! But the platform - HELOOOOOOOO - I played with it in every machine they had out and it ROCKSl I actually walked into their booth with a stack of Die-Versions fonts {gutsy huh?!?!? LOL} and gave it a full on test! It's going to be an awesome replacement for my Big Shot...can't wait!!

The new platform sounds very intriguing! I probably won't buy another machine, but considering the magnetic platform.

I am intrigued, but I think I'll wait and have Susan test it out! I really got burned with the Epic--to begin with, I paid too much for it and spent too much money trying to get the "fixes" to work. And there are some dies that still won't cut right. But oh, the promise of a larger magnetic platform... that may just lure me back over to the dark side! But Susan, make them promise, PINKY SWEAR!, that they will test the new machine on real scrappers for longer than 5 minutes. I can't wait to see pictures!

Ok just called me die cut machine challenged. What is so wonderful about a magnetic base? The only thing that comes to my mind is me being frustrated trying to pry off thin dies from a magnetic base but I am thinking I must be wrong..so please englighten me :-)

But they stay put! Especially if you have a bunch of different dies on the base. And if you are trying to line something up, it stays that way. Esp if you are fussy cutting a PP. And I never--not once--cut a die upside down in the Rev. I did in the Epic less than a week after getting it. And voided the warranty forever on the $#@! thing. And I would have used the warranty when the shim separated from my base plate. So I'm all for magnetic bases!

I MUST have this platform! Leslie, the magnetic platform, like Michelle says, is great if you need to "fussy cut" something. For instance, if you want to line up CC dies to use the negative space on a layout or card, or to line up a specific part on PP. The dies don't slide around in your sandwich... Yes, you can use removable tape to accomplish the same thing, but that takes more time, and tape!! I am excited about the platform, but don't really need a new machine - I my Vagabond! Gail

Ahhh...the convenience of a magnetic platform! I love my machines, but don't like chasing dies around the non-magnetic plates, which have forced me into a serious investment in removeable tape. How far away is May?

Ah I see..makes more sense to me..although I am not much of a tape user either. I think for me the best of both worlds would be a switch or button to initiate the magnet and of course also need an automatic cut so I don't have to crank the dies through..so we just need QK, Tim Holtz and Cuttle bug or Spellbinders to get together to create a new machine

Yes Susan, make them "Pinky Swear"! While I ended up with a "MAGNETIC" platform for my Epic (thanks to DS) .....I'm interested in the "Genius, ultimate platform" since it works in all of these machines. Cat

OOps...just posted this on another message....I'll repost here anyway:
Here's a youtube link with a short video using the platform. But I can't seem to find one with the new machine.... Though the platform looks cool!!
I'm one of those people who haven't veered away from QK/LC yet...all I have is the Revolution and the Epic. I may be in for an Evolution!!! Just want to seeeeeee it!!

It figures!! I received the Bigshot for Christmas! I also got the extended platform for it. Should of waited a few more months! I sure like the idea of the magnetic platform. That is one feature I love about my Revolution!

Pam, I dug around on some other boards this afternoon and on some posted sites of CHA photos and didn't see a thing. Maybe Susan got a special viewing? Suz--we need pics! (insert blinkie on her knees!)

HI LADIES!!!! okay - I just dug into my bag to grab my camera, and I can't find it!!!! YIKES - let's hope it's still in our booth {no worries, I know for a fact it is - I tucked it under my lime green apron when I went to class today and I didn't grab it when Dani and I left the booth tonight} so my pictures are there - but tomorrow morning I am heading to the floor early and wil sneak a few pictures of the Evolution and share them on Facebook {sorry, it's the only place I can post to directly from my phone}. but if I post them on Facebook, will someone who follows Scrapy Land on Facebook be able to grab them and then share them here? ?? That might work! Anyway - the new Evolution machine is cute, but again, I think it will mainly appeal to people who are tried-and-true Revoltuion users and haven't needed to upgrade to any other machines. This will be a genuine QK machine, but in a larger size! greetings from CHA and from CA - I'll see if I can break away early tomorrow and get some pictures uploaded early tomorrow!!!

I guess I'm the only one out there that still likes my Epic. That being said I think I would love the new platform because of it being magnetic plus it not curling. I bought like 6 mats from Dani LOL. I'd go away for a scrap weekend and have to quit working before the last day was over because my mats were just done for! I was determined to make sure I could keep working lol. I'll still use them but think I might invest in this new platform! However I noticed in the video she mentions the top part is thicker. Even though she says it will fit in the Epic that worries me as some of my sandwiches can already be tight. Guess I'll just have to hope everything is okay.

It's my understanding that the new, thicker mat would fit the new platform. Not the existing platform(s).
Have you tried flipping the grey flex mats? Even though it says not to do so, I do it anyway and haven't noticed a bit of difference. It helps some with the curling, but I still need to bake a mat after a big project or heavy use.

Since I now have a ton of them I think I'm good LOL. I can rotate forever while the older ones recover lol.

Susan told me to put them in the sun, too. But we never had enough sun in Boston! So one day it was cloudy for her and she needed a mat, so she tried baking it.
Put it on a baking sheet on very low heat--150-200 degrees until it flattens--about 5 minutes. Take it out and flip it onto a heat proof surface and let it cool. It's like new again and lots of the little slivers of paper that get imbedded into the mat will fall out, too. It's like magic for the flex mats!

Oh I am so getting that platform!!! I have a hard time with the dies sliding around on the reg platform so much that I can only cut 1 die at a time The new machine sounds promising too but, just like everyone else, I will be waiting before purchasing one. We need to wait till they have all the "kinks" worked out. Cindy

Here is a photo that I found on the internet. I don't think the platform is pictured, just the machine. It's not very good, but it's a start until Susan has a chance to get us a real photo! It looks a lot like the Epic, but sleeker and sexier. All I care about is that it works!

I found a second photo on Shopping Diva's photostream. It's a better photo, but doesn't show the mat or the platform.

hmm the machine is bigger but the platform doesn't really look any wider. Is it just my bad eyesight?

I don't think it's any wider--I'm assuming it's still the 6" width.

I don't think it's any wider--I'm assuming it's still the 6" width. My guess is 6" wide, too! It certainly looks like a waaaayyyy more stable machine that the Epic...I"ve always had to put a piece of Dycem material under it to keep it from sliding around on the table.

Thanks for posting this picture. I am so glad I have my Big Shot Pro. It may just be the pictures, but I am not really impressed with the machine, the platform does sound interesting however.

I just got the vagabond before Christmas and I Love it but the only thing it is missing is a magnetic platform. If that platform works in the vagabond, that would be awesome. I hate my epic -- the only time I ever used it was when a die wouldn't fit in my revolution! Can't wait for more information!
