I've read the Boxcar article a ton and I've actually done some work for a women who owns her own Heidelberg but she moved to a different state. So I know know the ins and outs to letterpress, which is why I hope I can really get the lifestyle crafts one to do what I want to do. I'm just worried about the Epic machine it's self...I'm getting the assumption it's a stinker and there is a good reason why it is being replaced. hopefully it is released sooner then later thanks for all the advice.

As many know, the Epic isn't my favorite machine. However, in all honesty, I have never seen a bad review on the Letterpress used in the Epic. Some frustration over the Letterpress itself--there is a learning curve and some practice needed. But repeatedly I hear about how great the Letterpress works in the Epic. And the Letterpress does work in other machines, just like the Genius will. All the major machines work about the same.
There are sure to be some rockin' deals when the Evolution makes it's debut. I think there will be lots of people selling off Epics to fund their Evolution purchases. And in all fairness, there are a lot of Epics out there that work great.
I think I've seen the article Leslie referenced. And there is a huge difference between the Epic's Letterpress and a real letterpress. You are definitely getting a poor man's version of the letterpress. But the real version is hundreds, if not thousands, for the machine. It's all in what your needs are.

I don't know if this has been answered or not. But will the new Genius Platform cut Sizzix Sizzlets dies with one of the clear cutting mats that come with the Big Shot? That would be awesome to have just one platform for both the Sizzix and Life Style crafts dies.

It will have the capability to cut all dies. The opening is the same size as the Sizzix machines. It's just a matter of using the right plates. And the Sizzix Multipurpose platform will fit in the Evolution as well.

what type of felt are you using? the only felt that works with these thin metal dies {Die-Namics, Spellbinders, QuicKutz, Die-Versions, etc.} is wool blend felt. The type of felt you buy at Michaels or Joanns, in the little 9x12 sheets, does NOT cut very well at all. You have to buy wool blend felt, which sometimes can be found at the fabric store on the bolt, BUT is better to buy online. It usually will have 30-40% wool. hope that helps!

Try laying a piece of printer paper on top of the felt, under the cutting plate, before rolling it through the machine. Sometimes it helps to cut. Cindy

Try making a SHIM with a piece of card stock on top of the cutting pads then run through as normal.
