Just got a new Epic 6 (still in the box) and I have several Nestabilities and want to both cut and emboss them...watched the video by Susan but I do not have any alphabets so don't have any of those little square plastic shims she used (from cookie cutter alphabet sets). I have used my Cuttlebug to cut and emboss the Nestabilities...and I just used the tan embossing mat and a couple of shims of cardstock and it worked. Does anyone cut and emboss with an Epic 6 without those plastic shims and get a good emboss on their cutouts? Really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

Hi there! I was just getting ready to answer your email you sent earlier this morning. I'll just answer here so everyone sees it! I'm not sure what video you watched, but the Epic 6 does cut and emboss the Spellbinders dies. You just need the same tan embossing mats that you are using in your Cuttlebug...gosh I haven't embossed with my Epic for such a long time, but if memory serves me correctly we used the dark gray embossing platform, your die with paper still in it, at lest one tan embossing mat, and then the clear top cutting pad. If that isn't thick enough - try two tan embossing pads {I usually have bought the big ones and cut them in half!} Go slowly, so you can experiment with the thickness. It should be firm, but not impssible to roll through your Epic 6. Maybe one of the other Divas has an Epic 6 out on their table right now and can confirm the info!!!

Hi Susan...after searching and finding several comments about the Epic 6 (almost all negative) ...I went to bed feeling like I had bought an Edsel (don't know if you know what that is--a car Ford put out that was a major lemon...no one liked it back then). I did go ahead and buy the magnetic platform set that Scrapyland is selling pre-order and hopefully that will help...I'm mixed about what other die cut machine is good...Revolution? Big Shot? Grand Caliber? My Epic 6 isn't even unpacked yet and I feel deflated about getting it now. But I guess I will play around and see what happens... Drat...should have studied more....

Petiestu, don't be discouraged about your Epic 6. I have one, and while it's not my favorite machine (I also have a Revolution/Grand Calibur/Cuttlebug), I do use it. Most of the reviews that you've read are probably related to the initial problems that Quickutz/Lifestyle Crafts had with one "run" of the Epic 6. There were problems with that group, and the company replaced all of them that had serial numbers within the group (that is, they were replaced if the owner of the machine contacted them).
My absolute favorite machine is the Revolution, although it will not cut dies wider than 4".
The "plus" for the Epic is that it is so transportable, and it doesn't weigh a ton. You may want to use a piece of non-skid material under it (I have a piece of Dycem that works well), but that will depend on the surface where you place it.
Just enjoy the machine, and watch for other suggestions from the helpful Divas here!

I agree about the Epic 6- I have one and just like Casunflower, I do not use it as much as the Revolution but I DO use it. I will be getting the new platform as soon as it is available too. I use it for Sizzix dies and I LOVE it for that. It works much better now than it did at the beginning!!

Thanks guys...I am sure I will have questions in the future...lots...hahahaha.... ;D I will just try and play with it and I do like variety so will probably buy a Revolution...that looks like the machine everyone likes...I already have a Cuttlebug (although my daughter is using that right now). So excited and preoccupied tonight...tomorrow and Saturday I am attending a Copics certification class, tomorrow the standard and then Saturday the intermediate with Debbie Olson here in the Twin Cities. Hope all have a wonderful weekend! Blessings.

It's probably my rants that you have read about with the Epic. I can't say it's my favoite machine. I think I got a dud, but never convinced anyone at QK that was the machine and not me. But I will say this. Those that have a good Epic like them. And I have to say, the thing is a work horse. I've been trying to break mine for over a year, hoping I could replace it with the Vagabond or Big Shot. But that puppy just won't quit! I emboss with it. Cut felt with it. Cut **8** layers of felt (with a Sizzix die) with it and it still is going strong. Here are the instructions from the Spellbinders website. I'm not sure if the E6 comes with the clear cutting mat, as I believe all of them now use a grey Flex Mat, which is thinner. If not, Scrapyland sells the clear cutting mats. And you can also use the Sizzix clear mats which can be found locally. It may take some trial and error, but once you get it figured out, it will be well worth it!

Don't be discouraged. I have an Epic and love mine. I use it constantly. Probably for something on every single page I make. I love that I can easily take it with me. It did have some issues when it first came out and that turned a lot of people off, but I wouldn't trade mine. Hopefully you will love yours as well.

If you like the machine once you try it, then it is a good purchase, regardless what any of us has to say. If you can return it I might be inclined to do that because I was never able to have a sucessful experience with the one I had. Lifestyle Crafts is coming out with a new machine that is suppose to the rock your socks off. Me I am staying with my Sizzix Pro. I love it and since I don't have any stores to scrap at anymore in the area where I live portability is not a problem for me.
