I got my genius platform yesterday and tried running it thru the vagabond with one of the free dies it came with and it didn't cut thru the paper at all -- it just left the die impression. I was using the platform with mat A. Has anyone else had this problem?

Lisa, I've received my Genius, and it cut the included dies just fine on my Vagabond, so I'm not sure what the issue is with yours. It was a bit more challenging to cut some other brands of wafer thin dies, though - some required 1 sheet of cardstock as a shim. Maybe you could try that?? The issue I have is that the magnets on this platform are much weaker than those on the Rev platforms, so heavier dies don't really stay in place, though the lighter nesting dies seem to stay just fine. I used mine today with both the dies that came with it and papertrey ink dies with Club Scrap paper and they all cut like butter. No issues!! I LOVE it!!

My platform just arrived, and I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but... I have a question just out of curiosity...if any of you have a Genius platform, what shape were the dies that that came with it? The picture on the box and on the SL website shows roughly 5 nesting circles. My platform came with 9 nesting label-style dies! (I'm not complaining...I must already have a gazillion nesting circles!) I just thought it was interesting!

Diane did you order the Genius Platform or the Evolution? Are you 9 dies sort of a 12 petal scallops flower die??? You're right, the Genius is pictured with Circles but the Evolution is pictured with a scallops die. But like you said - who needs more circles??? Let us know how its trial run goes tonight!!!!

Mine had the 9 nesting labels like dies. The box itself has the picture of the labels dies in it. :-)

Diane, my Genius platform came with the label-type nesting dies. I'm ashamed to say I never paid attention to the photo on the box, which is now long gone!!! ;D I agree though, a much better shape than more nesting circles!! Gail

I was at my Local Scrapbook store today, and noticed they had the Genius Platform. I ask the gal if I could see and it does look pretty intriguing. Now, do I really need this platform to replace my Big Shot's? Or do I keep what I got? I do like the idea of the magnetic properties, like the Revolution. Right now I am undecided. I did look at the picture on the box and it comes with the Label- type nesting dies as Gail mentioned. Karen

Phew....I was freaking out when I first started reading this....my Genius platform is on order and I hate feeling like I may have already wasted my money, since I already have the extended Big Shot platform, but ordered the Genius because of the magnet. But now I am feeling better....I already have to shim many of the very intricate dies, like Memory Box and Cheery Lynn....I nail those puppies down with tape so they don't shift and double cut, especially if I have to shim more than once. I am writing down now what I shim each die with if it doesn't cut cleanly, cuz I hate wasting paper. I find I have more trouble when I am using the thicker paper, or CS. The other thing I can think of: if your Big Shot is older and has had lots of use, it may require more shimming because they loosen up over time, right? Oh, and I always shim on top of the cutting plates....I get more 'shift' if I shim under them! Hope the Genius platforms come into Scrapyland soon!!!

My Genius Platform & DV dies (Sweet Spots "shivers of love") arrived just in time for me to throw them in the travel trailer along with my other crafting supplies I was taking to the mountain. Since I had my Big Shot loaded already I was ready to try out the Genius....theDV Sweet Spot "a great day " was the first die that I tried .....it cut like butter....then a few border dies, then some older 2x2 dies (trout, tent, pine trees, fish bones) and then several DV fonts all of them cut like butter too.
The magnets are very weak and are a disappointment, but I love the way I can cut my LS (quickutz) & DV dies without the using folder platform. I give the Genius a A- at this point; since I killed the gears in my Revolution the Big Shot is my camping machine.
