I made these today for the first time - they are oh so good, so I thought I would share.
¾ cup Butter flavored Crisco 1 cup Sugar, plus extra for rolling 1 Large egg ¼ cup Molasses 2 cup Flour 2 tsp Baking Soda 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp ground ginger ½ tsp ground cloves ½ tsp salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or a silpat. Combine Crisco and sugar, cream until light and fluffy with electric mixture (about 2 mins). Add egg and molasses and beat until completely incorporated. Wisk flour and remaining dry ingredients, add to mixture. Stir until combined. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls and rolls in sugar. Bake 8-10 minutes or until just set around the edges and you start to see ‘crackling’ on the top. They will puff up while baking and flatten when cool. They will be chewy soft in the middle.
**Don't use butter - they flatten like pancakes - shortening gives a better texture***
