Has anyone else tried cutting Die Versions dies with the new genius platform in the big shot? It doesn't seem to cut all the way through. I would put cardstock underneath as a shim but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a magnetic platform?

Noelle, you can put your shim on top of the die, beneath the upper cutting plate and will still be able to get the benefits of the magnetic platform. Gail

Noelle I'm also curious which die you are cutting. At CHA in January I used a DV Solo Sentiment and a DV font {probably a Lotta Lime!} on both the Genius platform and the Evolution. I didn't have any trouble - so I'm assuming you're using a more intricate or delicate die, or a much smaller font?!?!?!? Like Gail said - shimming can also go on top of the cutting plate...so as not to effect the magnetic platform. Just remember - start slowly - one paper shim at a time and see how it goes. You have a new platform and cutting plate, and it needs to be experimented with!

I have shimmed under the die on the Rev magnetic platform and it still has pretty good hold even though the paper is between the die and the magnet. Cutting the detailed dies requires shimming and rolling through several times sometimes. Susan has a video (with a different machine) on the blog that is very helpful for cutting.

Gosh, Noelle, that one cuts great for me and shouldn't need shimming. Are you sure you have your sandwich correct for the genius platform?? Looks like you should be using the platform and cutting mat A. Gail

I got my Genius platform this past Tuesday and just now tried a sweet petite and a whisper (both Die-Versions) in it using the platform and Mat A. They both cut like butter! Probably better than any other cutting system I've tried them in so far. And I was using simple white, somewhat thin cardstock. Noelle, which machine were you using the platform in?? I used my Epic. Pam I'm glad to hear you've tried it out also. Noelle - let's figure out if you're using the correct A/B plate, and what machine you're using it in... thanks Pam for weighing in, and reporting your findings. Noelle, if you don't mind keeping us informed so we can all learn together - we'd appreciate it! THANKS ladies - I love that everyone is so willing to share, and work, and learn together!

I'm whining with you, Suz!! I haven't received my Genius yet, either! I think Noelle said in her first post she was using a Big Shot. Pam, I'm so glad to hear you like the Genius so much!! Makes it even harder to wait until mine arrives, though!! Gail

I had some credit left @ LC and ordered it through them direct.
I've only had the platform for a few days, and have only cut 3 dies on it. It's a tight fit in the Epic, which is probably why it cut like butter. Certainly no shim needed there.
The magnetic aspect is there and will do the job at keeing the die in the place you like BUT, it's no where near the strength of the magnet on the 12" Revolution platform. Which is fine...sometimes that magnet was too strong!
Just my 2 cents worth. Overall I'm certain I will like it better than the regular Epic platform. Now if I can just wait until that Evolution comes out......

I want one too!!!!! How does the cutting mat do? I like the magnetic part of it but it being tight worries me a bit (protect those gears you know). I do not like the the flex mat very much- so warped and tired of cooking it so... I am very interested in how the new thicker cutting mat holds up??? Cindy

did I ever tell y'all the funny story from last CHA about "cooking the Epic mats".... I was standing at the QK booth giving the Evolution and the new Genius platform a serious workout. I used it in the Big Shot, the Vagabond, the Cuttlebug, and back again. Different dies, etc. A serious workout - {luckily the guys at the QK booth know me, and put up with my serious attention to detail! HAHA} Anyway - I asked the demo girl about the mats. They are definitely thicker than the Epic mats, and I wondered about the warping. She shows me one that she claims she had been using for 3 solid days and it was barely even curved. She says "people have been telling me that they cook their Epic mats at 200° in the oven because someone on Youtube told them that it makes them flat again..."...I almost choked! I confessed to her, that it was me who unintentionally discovered the heat trick because I'm in AZ and used to film my Scrapy Land videos outside, and one day I left my Epic mat outside on our glass top table, and it was PERFECT again! She laughed - she thought it was so funny that now she "knew" who and why that trick was discovered. As usual - by total mistake! {aren't the best inventions by mistake?!?!?!} Anyway - she sees me the next day - and tells me that two store owners are giving her the 3rd degree about the mats. The store owners say "we're tired of telling our customers to cook their mats to flatten them"...hahaha...and the demo girl says "HEY - i met the inventor of that trick!" It was one of the high points of CHA - hahahaha! Unfortunately, demo girl didn't bother to tell the store owners to come see me at the Die-Versions booth!!! Gee - I wonder why??!?!?!?!?! But the new mats are definitely thicker...WAH...I want my new magnetic platform to come right now!!!! I'm totally jealous of y'all! TOTALLY! okay - everyone else who is jealous can stand in line behind me...we should make up t-shirts.... Jealous of Genius! HAHAHAHAH!!!!

Yes, I was using the Big Shot with cutting mat A. The outline of the shapes cut fine, it's the detail part like the piece on the monkey's tail that doesn't seem to cut out. That's funny you mention the cooking trick, I put my big shot mat in the oven the other day to test out the trick and I figured 350 degrees should do it. Well it would've been fine if I didn't forget about it for like 15 minutes lol it was a whole different shape! Good thing I had a backup

I'm on that whiner bench. I can't cut any dies until I get my Genius. My other Epic platform broke about two weeks ago and I didn't see any point in ordering an old platform when I knew I had the genius on order already. Of course I have a ton of flex mats now that I can't use. I bought like 6 of them when they were on sale so I could rotate at crops when they would curl and I didn't have access to sun or ovens LOL. All of my projects are on hold

just remember that a GREAT use for your extra Epic Flex Mats {I have a bunch as well!!}...self-healing cutting mats, eyelet hole hammering mats, and piercing mats! I just "baked" all of mine a few weeks ago, laid them under some cookie sheets so there were nice and smooth and flat...now I have several mats for my xacto knife work, and my piercing. I know it's not much - but I go thru self healing mats pretty fast...I'm brutally rough with them! LOL!

Hi. Just got the Genius magnetic platform but my dies that came with it don't want to stay in place when trying to use two of them to make a frame. The inner die wants to shift due to magnetic pull. Has anyone had this problem? Is mine faulty? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried putting the two dies (together, to create your frame) in different locations on the platform? I've noticed the "shift" even on the Revolution, but by placing the dies in another spot made a huge difference.
HTH!

Or useing some tape (repositionable or de-stickied tape) to hold it to the paper? place the tape on the non-cutting side of the die and paper. Cindy
