OMG I have that apple core, which I got from Danni for under 45.00. Maybe I should put it on eBay for sale and get rich. ;D Mine is NIB.

Please, oh please do not let my hubby see that seagull on there. Mine just might disappear. That would be over a $100 profit but no way am I selling mine. Vicki

Since most of you know I sell on ebay, which is coming to an end for me, ( for a while anyway ) I am happy for this Seller. This is not meant to offend anyone. Just remember we don't know the price people buy their dies for. 70% of mine I bought from ebay and resold when I felt the time was right. All sellers do really well some weeks but can lose their shirt the next. I am not parting with my Seagull but I have some that other Sellers wouldn't part with! Ebay is always a win lose risk. Now where can I find 1000 Banana dies and I'll take the same in Seagulls but want to pay $12.99 of course!!!! <><

The very old retired dies are getting harder and harder to find and I have noticed they are not coming up on ebay much anymore. Honestly, I have to admit that I have paid over $100 a couple of times now for a die. I don't spend a lot in any other area so it all evens out. If any of you have the apple core or the seagull, they are very detailed dies. I can see how someone would really want to have them. Has anyone out there worked with them? I get a special thrill every time! We should be careful just in case that bidder is one of us! I wouldn't be surprised since we are all QK connoisseurs.

I have no problem with people selling on the E. I've done it myself many times, just not QK. If people are willing to pay extreme prices for something, that is no reflection on the seller. I say great for them. Also timing is everything, like Laura said. I remember selling a old Gameboy game for over $70. When I had only bought it for under $10. It was a Dukes of Hazzard game & I bought it for my son when he was very little because he loved the show & anything with cars & speed. Well, when the release of the movie came out on big screen, there was some people who really wanted it. I knew it would be a great time to put it on the E. Me & my husband ran around the house giving each other high fives. We also thought, are people crazy! But, my son didn't want it anymore & it was just laying around the house. Now, I've recently acquired that apple core for under $40, might need to rethink that one too!?

You know I am all for sharing links on good deal and at times things that I can't believe the price people have paid for things. But recently there was a member on the board that had sold something, and it went very high and people were saying things in the concept that the seller ripped the buyer off. I know both the buyer and the seller on that item and the seller would give the shirt off their back and the buyer was just tried of looking for a RVHTF die so they paid for it. Both were happy with the sale. But then they came on the board and things were being said and the seller was upset. I can say sometimes I might say I wish I had that kind of money to spend, but I can HONESTLY say I have spent over 100 on a die before. So I don't fault the buyer or seller of these dies. We never know who the buyer or seller of these dies are, and they can be one of us, and something can come across wrong and then their feelings are hurt. I wish the buyer and the seller luck on these items. May the highest bidder win and may the seller dance like no one is watching!!!

It's the American way! If someone is willing to bid that high, so be it. I wish I could turn that kind of profit when I decide to sell mine. I don't understand how the seller could be ripping off the buyer, if the buyer is the one that bids? and even if it was a buy it now, no one is holding a gun to the buyers head.
The prices are high for me to pay for the purpose I use the dies. $50 was the most I have spent on a must have. I'm glad I don't face a must have often.

the seller only puts the item on for auction, if the item sells, it's the buyers that are the ones that set the prices. more power to the ones that sell and buy.
believe me, i've paid some pretty pennies on retired dies and if i had the $$, i'm sure i'd be paying some high prices for more dies i want.
the only time a seller usually rips a buyer off is when it's a fraud seller or on outrageous shipping.
my 2 cents!

It's when a seller asks $250 for a giraffe die! Now, if someone decided to buy it because they were sick and tired of trying to get one, that's a buyer's decision and that's how the market works. I just kinda flinched when I saw that.

A's should re-introduce it, because I believe there is still a high demand for it at $19.99 not $200.

That is why I buy the dies even if the exclusive is not what I need right now. Because a time will come when I know I will need it for some crazy reason and buying it for $200.00 would make me ill. Michele

Michele I am SO trying to do that too, Michele, but it is just killing me. I feel like I have to take out a home equity loan just to keep up with the exclusives! I have decided to go through my collection and try to be brutally honest about my alphabets. It's just so hard to be realistic because I love it all!! I can't seem to part with any of my shapes. I'm definitely a shapes gal. ;D

I decided back then when they were released I didn't need the archivers monkey and chick, because I didn't like them at the time... I then decided I needed them anyway.. so I remained patient and got the monkey in a deal from our fan, and got the chick on a good buy two weeks ago...
Never ever gonna pay $200 or more for a die

Good luck to this seller, they were listed at a very low price. Things are only worth what somebody is prepared to spend on them!
I would love the seagull, but couldn't afford that kinda price - I have the apple core (probably bought from Dani !) - although I haven't used it yet - I couldn't part with it, unless maybe to swap it for a seagull !! LOL

I pretty much agree -- the seller can put whatever price they want on something and if someone wants it bad enough, they pay for it. Everyone has a choice. I've been known to pay more than I would like, but I've wanted the dies (or whatever else I may be into at the time I seemed to go through phases a few years ago.) I am also guilty of just hitting BIN because I WANT IT NOW! Basically, I guess I see it as being my money and the only one I have to answer to is pretty much my husband. I guess I see it as a win win situation.

I have been following the thread, and have a couple of questions. I use the QK for adding the funny little things to my LO's and cards. But it seems that over here it's a collectors items is this correct? Also a lot of exclusive dies that we don't see in Europe, but you all have them over here - what determines what will become an "expensive" dies? And how many different shops have exclusives? How long does the exclusive dies stay? How long does the "normal" ones stay? It might sound silly, but since I'm a newcomer to QK (from Jan 08) it's interesting to know

It might sound silly, but since I'm a newcomer to QK (from Jan 08) it's interesting to know Yes, some collect, but most collect so they can have the die for their crafts. When the die retires it becomes something that once the quantities get less and less, they become more expensive. Currently at least 10 shops here in the states have Exclusives and most shops have more than one Exclusive They stay until they are sold out usually most shops only order 500, unless they are Archivers. The normal ones, well that will depend on the shape, if it is a good shape it is going to sell out quick. But I have seen most shapes stay aleast a year or longer (not the popular ones) I hope this helps, feel free to ask more if you need to

I wish I had known what QK were when they first came out, then I would have had these hard to find ones. Most of the ones that go for crazy money retired in 2004 or are exclusives that not many were made of. Now when they come out I get them if I think I will use them because I just do not want to pay top dollar for them later. If I do not like them I do not get them. If you tried to have all of them you would go broke. Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree, some people can be too quick to comment about sellers on Ebay. I sell on Ebay and it is a win/lose situation.
Most sellers will know what an item is worth, they may aim to make a profit and that takes into account how much they paid for the item, the cost of listing, the cost of Ebay and Paypal fees.
Buyers can choose to buy or pass.
I often sell on BIN with Best Offer, since I feel this is much fairer for the buyer/seller and there is no worrying about bidding.
The reason I sell is to help cover some of the cost of my craft spending. I never ask my husband for any money and I would never be able to justity my QK spending otherwise!
It is true that we shouldn't be too quick to judge without knowing the reasons behind what people do.

Welcome qkdiva! Most of us buy our QK right here with Dani. You can't beat his prices & service. When he doesn't have something, I can only speak for myself, I go on the hunt. . . usually the E or I will try a google search. I did just buy the apple core among a few others I really wanted from an overseas company. As far as I've been told from others, they are out of stock now. If there are any specific ones you want, just list in the section ISO/FS & someone will most likely point you in the right direction. Welcome again! Christine

As most of you know, I am willing to pay for a die I need for my collection, I do draw the line though and when I bid, I do so with my maximum straight away, if I win, fine, if I don't then I move on and keep looking. I figure it will turn up again, they usually do.
Like most, I can't see myself paying over $200 though.
It is getting harder to catch up at the moment, just because of the volumes, so I am hoping this will quieten down once the Christmas period is over. Otherwise, I might need that home equity loan too!!

As I was reading everyone's posts, All I kept thinking is one thing, darn I should have bought the apple core and seagull when I had the chance....... I remember perusing all the spapes for porbably hours deciding. ANd silly me, returned the teacup is it was so stinkin' small (Oh, that was smart) I have the apple though and use it, and a binder of shapes, I think the watermelon slice may be one to sell, but hey, I like it. Or maybe I will make 100 ahead of time and then sell it I have been addicted, I mean buying since QK came out. Bought it when you had to buy everything separate, i.e. the lc Shadows, mini or classic star--it took me forever to get it all, not from the price (even tho rediculous now) but figuring out which ones I had and hadn't. I think I had to use a spread sheet. And then I went to use them, and realized I had 2 of something and was missing the lc minis....geeze. Drove th elady at Paperdreams c-r-a-zy (before Dani) Anyway, I sell on ebay too, and buy, we all lke deals, but sometimes we just really want to "pay the man".
