Hey everybody! I just discovered Scrapyland and placed my first ever Quickutz order! I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering a boatload more soon! I'm a devout crafter (if you think of a craft, I probably do it!) with an emphasis on paper arts, like scrapbooking, quilling, stamping, embossing, scherenschnitte, etc. I have a massive collection of Sizzix, Ellison Design, Cuttlebug, Cuttlekids, Bosskut, and Scraparatus dies and more punches then I can count. Like I mentioned, I just started on Quickutz and the selection is so mind-boggling that I have a feeling I'm going to be concentrating exclusively on Quickutz for at least the next year! The Quickutz exclusive dies alone are going to bankrupt me, they're all so incredible! I am such a die cutting fanatic that I will often become smitten with and buy a die and then search for an occasion to take photos to suit the die. I have a particular weakness for dies that are girly...like makeup, purses, and shoes. And, for some odd reason, I love pirate theme dies and junk food theme dies. Nice to meet you all!

I hope your family likes dining on bread and water, because you'll be spending your $$$ on a much more important investment...QK, of course! ;D

I am wondering about two of the things you mentioned. First of all what is "scherenschnitte"? That is a new one to me. Also what are Scraparatus Dies? Never heard of such a thing! In case Tina doesn't get back to you right away on this... "scherenschnitte" is that extremely detailed paper cutwork, which takes scissors with very sharp points to cut successfully. The designs always make me think of German woodblock printing. Scraparatus dies are the little teeny dies that you can use to cut shapes, using a pink Karen Foster Scraparatus tool...the one used to punch holes of various sizes in paper, for large brads, weaving ribbon, etc. It's spring-loaded, and kind of noisy. I don't know if they make them any more. The dies are close in size to the QK cookie cutter 6-piece shape sets. Someone will explain this better than I did, but this might help for the moment!

Scherenschnitte is a traditional paper cutting art. If you ever had someone stand in front of a light bulb and you traced their silhouette on paper and cut it out, you have done scherenschnitte! It's basically like die cutting, only is is done by hand and usually shows a silhouette view. Scraparatus is a tool by Karen Foster Designs that came out a couple of years ago. The dies are under an inch long and are meant to be cut out with a hand tool. To use the hand tool, you pull on a knob and let it snap back into place, and the pressure is supposed to cut out your image. It doesn't work very well, but the dies work wonderfully in my Big Kick like I mentioned. Just go to the Karen Foster Designs website and look under clearance and you'll see the dies. And thanks so much for the diva dance, I feel so loved!

My nephew uses his wife's very intricate scherenschnitte designs as patterns for the "Old World" clocks that he carves. They are beautiful (both the patterns and the clocks)!

What a great use of scherenschnitte patterns! I will have to try that with some of the patterns I've designed. (I hate to copy anyone else's work, so I design my own everything...and that includes scherenschnitte patterns, quilling designs, beadweaving, intarsia knitting, jewelry, and the list goes on for a bit!) Does he woodburn the design first and then carve, or does he trace with pencil and carve?
