I think Susan can best answer this question. Where do I go to buy the magnetic vent covers for the Santa's Workshop dies? I tried lowe's but I don't know what I'm looking for/what section it would be in. Let me know, the dies that dont fit in my all in one have been in the packages since I bought them last christmas and I would like to actually use them sometime lol

Noelle, I found my vent covers at WalMart, in the heating/air conditioning section. I asked the clerk, and he walked me right to them.
I'm guessing that they would be in the same area at Lowes/Home Depot/Target (?)/etc. (They usually come in packages of 2 or 3).
Happy shopping!

Noelle,
I've found them in a few different stores. Our Walmart is pretty small and they are in the aisle with the screws/nails/weather stripping. In Lowe's, they are waaaaay in the back corner where they sell the actual vents, only an aisle or two over from where the lumber starts. They are used to cover the vents if you don't want a particular room/area heated or cooled. I think I had to ask in both places and the clerks did know what I was referring to.
The area I store my dies is pretty large, so I actually went with sheets of magnetic material. (See the thread on Share Your Space.) Same stuff as the vent covers, just a larger sheet. I think 18" x 24"? I bought these at AC Moore for $9.99, but used a coupon. They are in a aisle with lots of misc hobby stuff, in the same aisle as the miniature stuff that you display on little shelves. Cork is there as well as magnetic sheets you can run through a printer.

I found mine at Lowe's/ I think most stores are layed out the same. Michelle was correct. Go straight to back-go left to wall and then work your way back to the vents.I found them close to the bottom shelf with the vents. They are flat . They say magnetic vent covers. I actually glued mine to wood with Tomboy glue and left the backing on them. They are all still hanging just fine. I like being able to see the dies. Deborah K.

mine are from Home Depot - and they were about chest-high in the aisle with the ductwork, replacement vents, vent directional hoods, etc. I think it was a 3-pack, maybe a 4-pack...packaging was basically white, and like a plastic bag - like the kind of bag a dozen screws would dome in...heavy plastic. But they were laying on a shelf...not hanging or anything like that. hope you find some!!

I bought them from Home Depot just like Susan (same spot- in the A/C vent isle). I cut them down to about 8x12 (can't remember the exact size) and glued them to white matt board to give them some rigidity and slide them behind my All-In-One binder plastic sleeves. I bought the matt board from M in the frame department, a large sheet that I also cut down, and used Aleenes Tacky glue. So far it works fabulously!! Cindy

... will be perfect for...ummmmm...the upcoming months!! {tee, hee!} My CC just fell over in a faint! I'm sure it will recover in time for any new "goodies"! Oh, and the guy in the "vent department" at Walmart must wonder what I'm doing with so many vent covers, after several trips back for more! ;D

I got some at home depot. I got a magnetic board at michaels the other day, but turns out the board wasnt so magnetic, just the magnetic canisters that came with it...so I just put adhesive on the back of the vent covers and covered the board with it and it works great! Thanks for the help!

Sometimes, don't you just know that the workers in these stores are shaking their heads at us. Worker 1 to Worker 2: Some lady was just in here and bought 5 packages of vent covers. Worker 2: Bought what? Worker 1: You know, those sheets of magnet that you put on a vent cover to block the air flow. Worker 2: Why doesn't she just shut her A/C off? Michelle

Here in Germany, we don't have vent covers (actually most people have radiators but no air condition) but they sell magnetic sheets to put comercials on your car. The guy selling these on Ebay must think I've wallpapered my car completely up to the windows ;D ;D ;D

I can't tell you how much more I use the dies hanging there on my magnetic wall. I just look up, see what I have and grab it. I love that! It's not that using the magnetic books are inconvenient. It's just so easy to grab a die off the wall! Michelle

oh girls - THAT WAS FUNNY!!!!!! The funny thing was - the first time I "discovered" the magnetic vent covers I was in Home Depot for ant poison and a new vent for our bedroom {I tried to bend it to fit over some chair rail molding in our bedroom - it DOESN"T WORK!!} So I was standing in the aisle holding a jug of ant poison in one hand, and a white vent in the other hand so I had no free hands...and I"m standing there with the Home Depot employee squealing!!!! I was asking him 100 questions "OH, turn the package over...is it sticky or plain??" SQUEEEAL "Oh, how many are in the package" SQUEEAALL "Wait, tell me the size?!?!" OHMYSQUEALLLL "And they're only how much??" SQUEAL....and then I had him take two packages and tuck them under my arm! I'm sure he was wondering what in the heck I was doing!!!!! Ant Poison and I'm installing a new air vent and then I'm going to close them all off!!!!! HAHAH - you girls are FUNNY!

Home Depot guy thinks I'm more than "wacked". He claims there is no such thing and tries to sell me something totally different. I've dealt with this "man" three different times. Last two times I tried sneak pass him. Rats the man has radar. Second time I even tried to explain what I was using them for. The man does not know a thing about multi-propose. They don't sell craft supplies and I need to go to a craft store. If he only knew how much stuff I get and use for crafting. The "man" is......Oh just thinking about him makes me want to kick a stump. Third time he saw me before I got half down the isle and started to shake his head. I wanted to "Wack" him more than once. I sent Eugene after some and he had no better luck than I did. He even got to hear about this crazy woman who had come in for something like he was asking for. Going to try and craft with them. Eugene's sense of humor let the man talk for a while before telling him "Yes, that was my wife" and walks off. If this "man" is in charge of ordering for that section of Home Depot he doesn't order them and if the ordering is done for him he is selling them for something else and doesn't know the difference. Needless to say I won't try there again! cat

Cat here are the exact covers I use and buy at Home Depot. These happen to be at True Value, but I compared the package - exact same! They even have a better price. www.idealtruevalue.com/servlet/the-79256/DetailSo either print this off - or find a True Value near you - or heck, find another Home Depot! LOL Hope that helps - and maybe go into HD in disguise next time - and radar man won't recognize you! LOL

Thank you Susan, I really think radar man is clueless. I'm not a violent person and for the most a very calm and patient person. But I swear this guy tried my patients. He was so busy letting me know how stupid I was that he didn't even listen. (Hope he isn't married and has children cause he not about to listen to anybody) When he said they didn't sell stuff for crafting (like it was dirty word) I stood there totally dumb founded, and I know a disbelieving look on my face. Then pure old mad washed over me and I really needed a stump to kick. I couldn't even speak without my mad showing. I thought how stupid do you think I'm or on second thought JUST HOW STUPID ARE YOU!. Thank goodness I kept my mouth shut and turned and left. After he kept being the service person on that isle every time I went in I figured I could find another store. I know there are other people out there besides me who has find items to craft with in hardware stores. What does the guy think wood workers use. The "NUT"!!!
Hugs and thanks again Susan Cat

Cat, I have tears rolling my face. Your story was so funny and sad at the same time. I had to read it to Pat. She felt your pain and started to search on line for them. I said thanks Pat, but Susan has provided a link.
Our Lowes stores them with the vents but they were on the very bottom shelf (on the floor) and not very obivious for sure.
I am sure we have skued the stock reorder points across the stores for this product!
I wish you luck in finding your magnetic vent covers Cat.
Noelle glad you got what you needed.
Cindy, great storage idea. I have 2 of these binders and will keep your idea in mind, as I move forward

Thanks Karen...when I look back parts seem funny, but thinking about the guy still makes me want to kick a stump. I'm going Susan's route and avoid the guy because it might be his shin I kick instead of a stump. I have quite a few really short ladies on both sides of my family; I'm taller than most. We are calm, patient, soft spoken women, but we even have our limits. (we run from 4' 3" to 5'3") At 5'3" I don't feel all that small; but times like these I'd like to be taller so I could look some of these type people in the eye. I say " Excuse me. If you don't mind I'll look for myself. Thank you." Cat

Yep, look down by the floor. I think they must be heavy and stored at the bottom! Cat, I'm sorry but I laughed too! I read your story to DH and he thought that was too funny. I love that Eugene let this guy go on and on and then hitting him with, "That's my wife." Ha! Sounds like something my hubby would do! Keep looking for those vents--and I may just be typing up an email to the manager about this less than helpful employee! Esp if he is being condecending to you. There's no call for that. There are plenty of women in charge of home repairs shopping in "his" store and he needs to deal with them in a more polite manner! Michelle

At my Home Depot they were hanging on the end of a isle in the heating/cooling area. I'm brain dead from doing inventory; what are the all in one binders that are being chatted about? Thanks! Cindy

...what are the all in one binders that are being chatted about? Thanks! Cindy Theyu're talking about the big black storage binder from QuicKutz, that has storage sheets for just about any size die, except the Epic 6x6's, which will only fit on the magnetic sheets that go in the binder. My personal opinion is that the vent covers are a much better option for the oversized dies, and the plastic pencil holders from Staples, etc. work better for the cookie cutter alphas and some smaller shapes.

hey Cat - I'm dead on 6' tall....when I walk into Home Depot male employees tremble as I approach them!!! Just kidding - I'm a big oaf at Home Depot, hubby usually draws me a map - but it's funny when I have to walk up to the sweet little retired men that are usually staffing our HD on the weekends and they are looking at me boob-height!!! LOL Times like that - I'd give my eye teeth to be as vertically challenged as your family!! LOL

Susan I don't know which is worse, having them look boob high or looking at them waist high. Either way seem to kinda comical when you think about it. I may not have got my share of height, but got more than my share in the boob department. As a teenager I punched more boys standing over me cause I finally figured out what their game was. Semi- turtle necks became my favorite style of shirts for a while. Seems all the short women in my family had and have the same "problem" Guess we didn't stand in some lines long enough and stood in some lines too long when we was being made. I guess we all face some kinda of challenge, but for the most part the ladies in my family haven't let it keep us down for long. We are a spunky group and a force to be dealt with when we see an injustice being done to someone. (then we don't care how big a person we take on) But that's another whole story in itself. Michelle, I don't mind you and your DH laughing. Eugene and I laugh about it even when it happened. Eugene knows the type of person I am and knows when it comes to crafting I don't let anything stop me much less a "man" who thinks I can't craft with things I get from a hardware store. Just let him hide and watch he'll see things used for stuff he would never of thought of!!! The "NUT!" Cat

Susan, want to come over today? I need to change the shower curtain in the kids' bath. I'm barely 5'2" and I need to stand on the edge of the tub to get the job done. I'll be slipping a phone into my pocket in case I fall. I forgot to have one of the boys do it this weekend--we weren't home much. But it's on the list, so there you go. Ugh. Cat, you won't be of much help. But you can come too and we can marvel at all the stuff Susan can reach. Some days, I hate being short. Sigh...

I'll come change your shower curtain as long as you'll go jeans shopping with me right afterwards. I need new jeans for my trip to MN this weekend and I dread-dread-loathe shopping for jeans. Tell just about any woman on the sales floor that you need jeans in a 36" inseam and watch them run/laugh/roll their eyes! HAH!! My goal is always to find the tallest woman in the entire store and ask her. Pros and cons to all sides of height I guess. {But I'd seriously donate about 5" to anyone that asked...hahah!!!} Of course if I suddenly lost 5" I'd need to lose some serious weight...LOL!!

Susan, No trades! At least I can hem my jeans. Even petites are sometimes too long.
I highly recommend Lands' End. They have some new styles that aren't too "mom jean" ish. And they hem them to any length--maybe even 36"? I do feel for you--that's tough. You must just love capris!
