Mila I have a Cricut question and I was hoping you could help me out. I own a Cricut Expression only - no studio or Gypsy I have tried to figure this out but I can't....I would like to know if it is possible to cut a 12" border. For example, the Accent Essentials cartridge the last icon on the keypad is a scalloped border. How can I tell the Cricut that I would like to cut it 12" long but only an 1" height. The only way I can figure this out is by cutting 3 in a row but that doesn't weld it for me. Thank you

Dania, Since you don't have either, there really is no way to tell it to cut a specific height and width at the same time. You could do fit to page, by cutting a 1" strip of paper and moving the blade over, then do the fit to page, but even then it does not come out like a true border should, but it still works as a border. Unfortunately it is not possible to weld without gypsy or scal. If you like i can do a quick video showing how to do it. If you use your cricut often you might think about a gypsy, I have one and just love it. I love the fact that i can take the gypsy anywhere with me and design my layouts, and then at night when i am ready I can just cut everything out quickly. You can do so much with it, you can weld images together, you can manipulate images into anything you can imagine, you can also hide and contour images, you can cut multiple images from different cartridges at one time. It really is amazing (so many more things you can do), I use it every day that i scrap along with my Expression. Hugs, Mila

good question Dania. I always thought it would cut 12" borders but did not know how to do it without making the piece huge.

I think the Gypsy is very user friendly, after playing with it for a few days i knew exactly what to do. I really do love mine. I am on the computer all day at work, so i didn't want to use scal, plus i love the fact that it is portable. I can design a quick layout during lunch, or during a car trip, etc. Provo Craft has come out with upgrades and new functionality for it, hopefully that continues. It has a photo app, which you can upload photos on. I usually like to upload some of my favorite layouts or Blox's ( ;D) and that way i can design and look at the blox at the same time.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hugs,
Mila

Thank you very much for the information Mila. That was what I was afraid of. Oh well. I purchased this machine and own close to 20 cartridges. BUT hardly ever use it. I believe the only cartridge I use is the paperdolls. I would consider the Gypsy if they some how can go from cartridges to per design purchase. I'm spoiled with the Silouhette that I only buy what I want or need at that minute. Let me think this through....... thank you again.

I also have a Gypsy and just LOVE it. I'm not that much of a designer, but I love the feature where you call up a design/icon you want (i.e., a dog) and it shows you all the dogs available. It saves so much time in that I don't have to go through the handbooks or through a binder I've created that shows all the cartridge designs.
As Mila says, once you play with it awhile, the Gypsy is very user friendly. I still haven't unlocked all of its marvels, but am happy with the point I'm at. I can't imagine not having it now. I ESPECIALLY like not having to drag all my cartridges everywhere if I'm going somewhere else to scrap.

Dania,
Provo Craft is running a special right now if you buy a gypsy and register it before October 31 they are going to have 6 free down loadable cartridges through the gypsy on November 1. This is for current gypsy owners as well. I wonder if eventually that is where they are headed with it and this would be a test run for them to see how the gypsy would do and if people would like that. I think that would be an extremely smart move for them. I guess we'll see!!

How do you design your layouts on it? I just saw a demo and you can only use the images that you actually own. Do you design you title and images ahead of time?

:)I am thinking of buying a Gypsy because I see that the Cricut can really only be used to its potential with a Gypsy or computer program. The 6 downloads are quite an incentive.

Stop it! I was thinking of picking up a Baby Bug at one of the Black Friday sales (you know they will be almost giving the things away!) and now I need the Gypsy, too! Grr... There is no way that I can afford both, so I guess you just saved me from myself. I'll just keep saving for the Silhouette. I know that's what I really want. Michelle

Here is a really good example of a layout that i designed a few weeks ago. It is a double pager (12 x 12). The square images are where my photos will go. Like i said I usually design a head of time and when i am ready for it i cut it out. I love it, and it works great for me, some of the images are welded and manipulated to my liking. Also, when i am ready to cut it out, i don't have to think about my design any more because i thought about it before. Michelle, The gypsy has gone down in price a lot, you will probably be able to get an expression for around $150 if not less on Black Friday and i have seen the gypsy's go for as low as $75 - 150, depending on where you get it. Hope this helps! Hugs, Mila

Yes, those are cuts that the Cricut will do. I used Life's a Beach cartridge, paper dolls for the sand, and I think I used A Child's year for the boy and umbrella image. You can do multiple cuts at one time and mix cartridges together, you can cut by layer, etc. It really is amazing the things that you can do with it.
Hugs,
Mila

You do not need a computer or gypsy to use the cricut, before I got my gypsy, i used it the old regular way and i still loved it. Now that I have the gypsy though, i can create anything I can possibly imagine (and I can cut chipboard with it as well, great for titles). Although I do still love my big shot and dies just as much. It just depends what I am making.
Hugs,
Mila
