I use Bing as my homepage (my daughter works for Microsoft!), and today there is the loveliest picture of the Viet Nam Memorial, with the Washington Monument reflection.
Enjoy the view, and honor those who have served and protected us!

Thanks!
DH had the day off. He went jogging with the kids (they LOVED that!) and then made a big breakfast. We ran errands and last night he was on a local news show featuring veterans. He's on TV a lot but this was his first "panel." It went well and he didn't say anything stupid. ;D Whew!

I continue to be grateful that so many men, women, and their families are willing to make such sacrifices for the rest of us. Many of our local restaurants were giving free or discounted meals to active duty military and veterans yesterday. What a great way to give back to our community. Michelle, my hat's off to you and your family for your service and selflessness! Gail

You all are the best! The Jaguars are having a military appreciation day at the game on Sunday. I know I'll be emotional. The mass induction at half time always gets me. To think gee, were we ever that young, lol, and that they are just getting ready to start their careers and where did 26 years go and they're having Wounded Warriors, gotta stick a $20 in my pocket to buy the camoflauge t-shirt to support the WW project. I'm going to be a mess Sunday. Vicki

Vicki, I know exactly what you mean. When I had that big dinner a few weeks ago, they did a POW tribute. They did a symbolic staging of the boots, bayonette, helment, flag, along with a narrative explaining the symbolism behind each item. It was really well done and very emotional. It takes everything that I have not to sob out loud watching those sorts of ceremonies. And don't get me started at the photo tributes that show kids hugging mom or dad as they return from deployment. Michelle

Yep, you might remember the picture from last year of the boy hugging dad at the football game when he surprised him coming back from Iraq. The little guy was balling as he was hugging his dad and there I was balling in the stands, lol. Wheneven I come across that picture, I still tear up. But it's always great to have a chance to appreciate military members. I'll be hollering at the top of my lungs! Vicki

It makes me so glad that the Air Force doesn't do the media photo ops. We greet the returning members at the runway or the squadron, privately. I'm grateful for that, but then the heroes don't get a parade, either. And sometimes, we don't see them at all! After one deployment early on, DH grew a mustache, but didn't tell me. I walked right by him without even a glance! And I sure squeaked when that strange man picked me up in a bear hug! Hey, they are all dressed the same--how did I know! But now, I've learned what DH looks like when he stands or walks and I look for that (it's hard to describe, but it's distinctive), rather than faces. In uniform and under a hat brim, too many look too similar! Michelle

Homecomings are so emotional. In nearby Norfolk, its a huge deal when one of the Navy ships returns to port. Hundreds of family members waiting at the dock, and coverage in the local paper and TV news. Just thinking of some of those pictures right now has put tears in my eyes. Not being from a military family, I never understood what families go through when their loved ones are deployed. Living here, with many of my patients military dependents, I get a small glimpse into what these families endure with courage and patience. Thanks to all of you for the many sacrifices you make! Gail

I remember that one, and I tear up, too! Do you remember the video that showed the dad (who had just come off deployment in the Middle East) walking into his young son's classroom? The camera caught the expression on this little boy's face as he recognized his father, and burst into tears as he was enveloped in his dad's arms. It's hard to even post this here without big tears! Thanks again to all of the "service families" that are here on the MB... you have all given, and continue to give, so very much for our country!

I'm a big baby when I hear about or see these homecomings; and Ladies I'm not a pretty crier. I keep these men and women and their families in my thoughts and prayers everyday. I know there is no way I can ever thank these people enough for sacrifices they make. But I feel honored to make and send cards for them use and enjoy. Cat
