I was surprised to get my Doohickey Tilda Doily die cut today and find it is only a half circle!! I thought it would be a full round circle like the picture on the website shows. How do you make a circle doily with it without having a crease in the paper where you had to fold it in half to make a full circle? Or I am just missing something???

I have that die, but haven't used it yet. Could you cut one side, then line up the ends and cut the other side, so you'd have the whole circle.? I wonder if the die would actually cut through two layers of cardstock/paper if you folded it, since there's a lot of detail on the die.

I don't know if it will cut thru two layers either. Did you think it was going to be a big circle die too? Has anyone used this?

This is what I found out on the Magnolia site
I marked the back of the die with a sharpie so I knew where the pattern was. Paper is 6" x 5 1/2". Lay down die so the middle edges are perfectly straight. I used a little tape to hold it in place. Tape on outer edge. I used a Big Shot and did not need a shim. Run through machine. Turn paper over. Make sure the little pattern pieces are removed. You will now be using the tiny little holes on the back side of the die (help remove the paper) as a guideline. Hold the die and the paper up to the light. On the long edge match the top hole to the opening on the piece already cut. The horizontal long oval piece will actually cut into the same horizontal that you have already cut, tape into place. If you look at it you will see it is shorter than the rest. Now maneuver the short edge, holding it up to the light and lining up the middle hole to the one on the already cut part. You should see the light through it. Tape into place. Run through Big Shot. It should line up perfectly. You have one section cut from one side and the other side is cut from the opposite side so you have a bit of a rough edge. Run your Scor-Tool over the rough side and it will smooth it perfectly. It is now very hard to see that the sides are very slightly different, not noticeable at all.
This may all seem a bit of fuss but once you have done it a couple of times you will know exactly where to place the die for the second cut. It is a beautiful die cut and worth the extra bother!

I went to the Magnolia website and found this: I have to admit, this sounds like a pain in the patootie! But the die is simply gorgeous--I think it's worth it. And it's unique; I don't know that there is another like it on the market. I'm sure they did this to keep the cost of the die down. My recommendation? Cut a bunch of them out at once when you are feeling patient and lucky! Then you will have the blanks all ready to stamp and you won't have to putz with this after you have colored your image and risk messing up the cut.

Thanks Ladies!! I knew someone here would be able to help me! It does sound a bit tricky, don't know if I would have gotten it knowing I had to play with it this much. Hopefully it sounds harder then it really is!!

I do this with the QK 6" edgers and it works fine. The key is the repositionable tape!

I did too. Dani got it back in stock but was sold out again before I was able to order it. Now I'm glad I didn't get. Why didn't they just do an entire circle?

Quite frankly, Susan will forever be my hero for introducing me to the magic of repositionable tape! Seriously Hall Of Fame material! It's not a leap to say that it's changed my life and how I scrapbook. I buy that stuff rolls at a time and go through tons. It saves my sanity over and over and over! Michelle

Susan, I'm glad that I made a tiny bit of your day good. The video was really great--you did a good job, in spite of going "old school." And where do you find the tape? Where else? www.scrapyland.com, of course! Look under "Scotch Tape." It's hard to find at Target, but some office stores will have it. But it's expensive there! Seriously, that stuff tames all the little die cut bits, lines up letters for titles, holds die cuts to the last bits of paper that you are trying to use up, holds notes to the front door, holds cards closed when I'm trying to photograph them, adds notes to my recipes... THIS STUFF WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! I have pieces of all lengths hanging off the edge of my craft table. I reuse it over and over until it just won't stick anymore. Before I found this, I was taking regular tape and dabbing it on my shirt or my jeans to get it a little fuzzy so that it wouldn't stick as well. Then it wouldn't stick at all. Or I wouldn't get enough fuzz on the tape and it stuck too much. Grrr... And while you are putting this little gem in the cart, notice that the **pink** ATG is back in stock. Whoo hoo! I finally broke down and bought the ATG a few months ago when it came out in **pink.** And I just love how it works. The tape is super-dooper sticky, applies so nicely and sticks forever. The ATG is big, but I have small hands and I don't have a bit of problem using it. You NEED one of these, too! (And did I mention that it's **pink?** ;D Michelle

I take it that we are talking about the REMOVABLE tape or is it one of the other two? *GASP* oh dear - if you haven't scrapped with Scotch Repositionable Matte Finish Tape - you haven't scrapped! LOL Here is the very first video I ever did using the removable tape - it's long, but I think you can skip forward. Remember this ladies - the dreaded "never ending card"...LOL Anyway - this is where the tape got it's introduction... www.ustream.tv/recorded/1127026{sorry, but you'll probably have to suffer through a David Hasselhoff commercial in order to get to the video! LOL}

Diane, yes! Great stocking stuffers. Along with some punches and Glimmer Mist. I dyed some pop pom fringe green tonight, along with some Rinkle Ribbon. I think it's going to work nicely for my latest DT project. I wonder what it could be??... Michelle

i just received this doohickey die, and like others, was surprised it wasn't a complete circle. However, I appreciate the directions and the tips onthe repositionable tape. I've been using the masking tape folks use when they paint, yah know, that blue stuff? It works, but this other stuff sounds like the cats meow. Speaking of doohickey dies, I heard they were being discontinued (saw it on another website). It may be that particular website is discontinuing them, but it got me curious. Anyone know anything about that? Barb
