Poor thing. That really is a bit chilly for Miami. I lived in Hawaii for several years and if it got below 70 people were breaking out the fur coats. Nope, I'm not kidding. Fur in Hawaii. It's going to be 70 in Texas today Dani. But we're dropping like a rock over the weekend. Might be time to break out the long woolies. Barb

Cold here in VA too, Dani - 10-12 degrees below normal for us. High of 48 today, 45 tomorrow! Lows in the 30's. This cold snap is a bummer!! Time to stay at home, by the fireplace, with a cup of hot chocolate! Gail

Boo hoo! You guys need to toughen up! It was about 20 here this morning. Big Dog and I just got back from our walk and it's up to 30 now. Whoo hoo! And listen to me--don't I sound like a native New Englander? ;D We've been here a year and now 30 is "brisk," as one neighbor put it this morning. Stay warm, my southern friends. Soon is will warm up again and I will have SNOW! That's the "S Word" in our house. Michelle

I hear ya Dani! But I'm not getting any sympathy from my Nebraska, Colorado or Vermont family members! Something about...SNOW? But it is COLD here in AZ! 32 at bus-stop time for my boy. We're already talking smudge pots for our citrus tress if the cold snap keeps up. Our youngest tangelo tree has been draped in burlap for the last week - poor baby! HAHA Cold cold cold - I am not used to sleeping with socks on or having to use an afghan on the sofa at night. I know - not a lot of sympathy - but what would you all do if it was suddenly 68 on Christmas day??? You'd be freaking out - right??? Layers Dani - think LAYERS of clothing, and keep drinking hot beverages. Warm from the outside in, that's been my mantra all week!

Dani, my Mom was here (Texas) from Miami over Thanksgiving and one day it dropped into the 40's and you would think it was 40 below from the way she was bundling up. Dress in layers and keep your midsection warm.

It is drizzly-rainy today in "sunny (northern) California", and while it's about 40 degrees outside, that's pretty much where it's going to stay through the weekend. But this is almost a heat wave for us! Last week it WAS sunny, which meant that we had hard freezes overnight (listen to the drip-drip-drippy water in the kitchen sink), and it never got above 35 during the day. I must admit that it's a bit weird for November/December. But you folks in the southern states (I'm not naming names ) will learn to be strong...like the rest of us! Just bundle up, grab that cup of hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows, and you'll be fine! ;D ;D ;D

Snow and below zero in Hamburg - DON'T COMPLAIN. I am so tired of having to get the snow off the side walks - last winter was just soo much - and this year it starts almost 2 months earlier than usually ... Ute

Susan, I wish it would be 68 degrees here on Christmas. How much easier it would be to go shopping without a coat on. You wear it because it's cold outside and then you sweat like crazy in all the stores. If you take it off you have to carry it and if you sit it down you might forget it and lose it. UGH! Plus, gathering up all the gifts to go out on Christmas and not having to worry about a coat too. Oooh that would be nice! I'm dreaming of a warm Christmas! Phyllis

Michelle, you are totally without pity!! I grew up in New England and spent 10 years practicing in Syracuse NY. I KNOW cold, and snow. That's what I moved here to get away from! If you live in Northern climes, snow and cold is what you get, and what you expect. BUT, if you live in the South (or AZ), its not what you expect, or are used to. So I think a little sympathy is in order, both for our Southern friends who are getting a surprise, and our Northern ones who are getting more than they bargained for! Hugs, sympathy, and hot chocolate for all!! Gail

So the snow have decided to stay in Germany to, Ute. In Denmark the temperature is way below zero, and because of the wind it feels really cold. In several areas of the country the police has told people to stay at home and not to drive their cars if it wasn´t absolutely necessary. It has even been necessary to get help from the army, to drive sick people or women about to give birth to the hospital in a personnel carrier. Normally winter are worst in January but this year it came early, just hope spring does so too. The bright side: Just stay at home, keep warm, scrap and shop some nice stuff from SL. Ansa

You guys are all too funny! Gail, will I garner any sympathy if I say that I've lived below the Mason-Dixon line for the last 10 years and I'm just starting to get used to the cold? We ran the heat into May last year. Yikes!
But I will agree that it really stinks when you aren't used to the cold. I knew Europe is under a deep freeze, but didn't realize that it was still going on. Double yikes!
My tip--a hot drink. If I can keep my hands warm, I feel so much warmer all over. In fact, my BFF knit me a pair of mitts. I seriously love those things!

Of course you have my sympathy, Michelle! I know all too well what you're going through... When DH and I first moved here from upstate NY, we wore shorts and no coats in December, and thought the locals (shivering and wearing parkas) were a bunch of softies! After 13 years, we've totally lost our acclimation to the cold, and have joined the group that needs to toughen up! As you said, its all about what you're used to! ;D Happy Weekend everyone! Stay warm and cozy! Gail

We are suppose to get 3-6 inches of snow here tonight in Wisconsin. I don't like it when it gets cold in the south. It is a real hardship on the crops. I hope the cold snap goes away and does not affect the citrus, strawberries, tomatoes, green beans, etc. They can't put a coat on to get warm and I love the fresh fruits and vegetables.

Deborah I've got my grapefruit, limes, lemons and tangelos all tucked in for the chilly night! It looks like a linen store exploded in my backyard - but I think it'll work!

My neighbor has a greenhouse (huge!), and she's had the two heaters running for the last two weeks. I think she's going to have an impressive gas/electric bill at the end of this month! And after telling you "southerners" to be strong, I'll have to admit that my daughter and I have been wearing sweats and socks to bed at night. And my DH? He says it's too warm in the house... if a heat-seeking missle ever heads this way, I'm pretty sure it will land on top of him!

I'd like to introduce y'all to the other man in my life. His name is Matt and some days I love him more than my DH.
It's my heated mattress pad and it was love at first sight! DH likes it cold when he sleeps and I'm a wimp. I like to be toasty warm. Matt takes the edge off when it's chilly and keeps me toasty warm when it really gets cold.
We turn the furnace down to 60 for about 8-9 each night. And even the kids have their own Matt's. It's a relationship made in heaven.
(And my BFF gets credit for naming him. Her hubby was deployed last winter and she was always cold. Matt to the rescue!)

Well personally I'm in a lot of pain when it's cold. When I lived in Memphis I wore wool socks, sweat pants, jacket, heating blanket and a portable heater and was still cold. I was soooo glad when the Navy moved us back to Florida. So usually I'm only hurting the end of January and February. Not ready for it to start so early. I try not to complain because I know so many others have it sooo much colder but when you hurt, you hurt. Vicki

just home from an AMAZING holiday party!!! I spent the entire night sitting outside by the roaring firepit! I literally had my toes right up against the flames - the kids kept warning me not to light my socks on fire! LOL - I know I'm a cold weather weenie - but when people remind me of that I point out that I own 2 long sleeved t-shirts, probably 2 long sleeved blouses and a couple of pull over sweatshirts. When it gets below 40 her I just don't have the clothes to keep warm! Last night I slept in sweatpants, a hooded sweatshirt and my husbands long athletic socks! HAHAHHA...thin blood, living in AZ for over 20 years - what can I say??? I grew up in the midwest where as soon as it hit 55 we were begging to wear shorts come March! In college we'd hit the tennis courts when the bulk of the snow was scooped off the courts to revels the lines. HAH - such fun cold memories! But after this many years - I'm not prepared, not accustomed, and not enjoying the cold. The warmest thing I have for my kids to wear is a hooded sweatshirt - and that bus stop is COLD at 6:15 each morning in the dark! So we'll have to all agree to enjoy our part of the country - and accept the fact that some parts are experiencing unseasonably cold/harsh temps and conditions! Luckily - we can stay inside and play with paper! RIGHT?!?!?!?

I agree with Susan. I am already tired of being cold!!! This feeling does not usually happen until after Christmas. It has been around 35 at night and 60ish in the day. Husband does not like the heater at night so I ramp it up to 70 before bed and load everyone up with blankets. I set the heater for 60 (I cannot let it get any colder than that) and wear long sleeves, yoga pants, and socks to bed. We are in the swimming pool business and dang-it but no one swims this time of year Cindy

I understand completely....My husband owns a center pivot business. He only sells, wires, and does repairs himself now; he use to put them up but he hires a crew for that now. I've seen him wear thermal under ware, heavy duty coverall and a heavy duty hoodie and a knit hat along with his normal attire of Levi's and t-shirt and long sleeve shirt. When farmer's need water they need it Now.....no matter how cold or windy it is. Crops can't wait even in the wintertime. I seen his poor hands bleed from being so cold because he had to take his gloves off to do a repair. I'm the only real weenie in the family.......after our son got his driver's license (16) he would head to school before daylight and remove ice and snow from the teacher's parking and sidewalks, then leave.... they didn't know who was doing it for years it was a good excuse for him to play in the snow and he loved it. Y'all keep your heads covered and Susan keep your fruit trees under wraps, and I'll send you all warm thoughts. Cat

Chili--you are officially C.R.A.Z.Y.!!! A jean jacket and it's -15? I grew up in Minnesota and even in the "I'm too cool to wear a jacket" days, I didn't do that!!! I'm jealous of your camera. Please take some pictures and share them. Pretty please! And Susan, I never even thought of not having the right jackets and such. Even when we lived in the south, the kids had "real" jackets because we go home to Minnesota for Christmas every year. But I do know it was hard when we went home, because the kids didn't have a lot of warm clothes, so I did a lot of laundry. I would be driving them to the bus stop, too! I have some other snowflakes, but not the Spellbinder ones. Several of the older ones from QK, smaller ones from another company that I'd never heard of before (they are wafer thin dies and bright blue), and a big Sizzix one. But I can honestly say, the new QK snowflakes are my favorites. The sizes are good, they cut out in one piece, they mix well together and they cut beautifully. I love how lacy and intricate they are, but I'm not having any problems cutting them. I even cut several out of felt and they cut so nicely. Michelle
