I have a question for all of you lovely ladies. I recently went to a Stampin Up party. It is the first one I have been to. I ordered some wood stamps. I got my order the other day and found out they are not mounted to the wood blocks already. My question is, can I convert them to use with acrylic blocks instead of the wood mounts? The wood mounts are so much harder to store and I am liking the unmounted ones much better for storage purposes. I know Dani sells some stuff but I didn't know if it would work to do what I would like to do. Thanks in advance for any help!!! Cindy

Hi, Cindy! It's easy to convert them to EZ mount, and use them with acrylic blocks. If your stamp already has foam on it (and the last time I bought SU stamps, they did), you'll want the thin EZ mount (http://www.scrapyland.com/Thin_Ez_Mount_Static_Cling_Mounting_Foam_8_5_X11_p/ezm-thin.htm). The instructions are on the package. Basically, the foam has a sticky side (attaches to the back of the stamp) and a cling side (sticks to the acrylic block). Peel the backing away from the sticky side, place the back of your stamp on it, then cut around the stamp with scissors (leave the backing on the cling side while you do this). When you're done, pull the backing off the cling side, slap it on an acrylic block, and you're ready to stamp! Just a warning, if you cut out very many stamps, your scissors will get pretty gunked up with the adhesive. You can remove it with Un-Du, WD-40, or any of the stuff designed to remove labels and stickers. Hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions. Unfortunately, looks like Dani's out of the EZ Mount right now... Gail

Cindy & Gail, great question and information....I've often wondered if this would work on the wood blocked stamps but never thought to ask the question here. Cat

Thanks Gail!!! Being able to ask these questions and getting these great answers is what makes the scrapyland board so awesome. The stamps do have the foam backing. I believe that Dani was placing an order with the company that he gets that mounting stuff from since I was bugging him for something else already from the same company ;D ;D ;D right Dani? Thanks again!!!!!

Just a tip to make stamping easier: The SU stamps come with a clear sticker sheet with the stamps images printed on. It's ment to be stuck on top of the wood block, but you can put it on the foam backing of the stamp too, so even with the clear EZ mount over the image, you should see somehow, what & where you are stamping. At least that's what I do with my SU wood backed stamps

Cindy, glad I could help! This group on the board is great for sharing and learning! I've learned so much here since I've been a regular, and it's great to able to pass some of that on... Scrapkatze, thanks for the tip - I didn't realize the foam would still cling with a label on it. Gail

I have some Stampin Up stamps that I just removed from the woods and mounted them to be able to use my acrylic blocks. I wish I would have thought of that sooner. I gained so much storage space. You can order Stampin Up stamps already set to go for Acrylics and they would cost you less.
Thanks girls for the "how to remove the gunk from my scissors"

The Stampin Up rep told me that they just started the unmounted ones this year. All of the new patterns come in choice of wood or clear. All of the old ones are only available as wood mount.
Of course the Christmas stamps that I really liked were all the old designs so they all came wood mount. I'm really glad I asked the question here because I would have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to store them. I love how the clear ones come. They are already in a storage case and have the info on the spine of the case of what they are.
You can order empty cases so I figured I might buy a couple of those just to keep some of them together that are the ones that only came as wood mounts. Since I'm converting them I will be able to store them in some extra cases.
It is amazing what you can learn by what other people have figured out and it is so wonderful that everyone is willing to share information.

Another product for removing goo/sticky stuff/sap/etc is Goo Gone. You can find it with the cleaning products in the grocery store and it works great for removing goo from my scissors.
I won't even look at wood mounted stamps anymore. I don't want to be tempted!

I'm with you guys on wood mounts, but I really prefer rubber stamps to the clear ones. My solution - I'll buy wood mounted, peel the rubber off, and apply EZ mount. Its generally pretty easy to peel the stamp off of wood mounts, but if its stubborn, you can microwave it for 5-10 seconds to loosen it up! Just thought some of you could use this info. Over the past year I've redone all my wood mounted stamps, and boy, it really saves on storage space! Gail

Michelle Goo Gone is great...I used it for a long time on clothing (e.g., gum on jeans) before I discovered that it should be in my craft stash! And as for wood-mounted stamps...I just can't bring myself to purchase these any more. I'm happy to see that SU has given stampers an option now...Close to My Heart went to cling several years ago.

Chili, the Magnolia's are red rubber cling stamps--not clear. Red rubber generally gives a much crisper image and Magnolia's stamps are a fine quality. They aren't mounted--you use an acrylic block with them.
They really are beautiful stamps to work with!

I thought I had gotten past stamping, and had even given away a ton (not too much of an exaggeration) of wood-mounted stamps. And then Dani brought in Magnolias (well, and other stamps, too!)...sigh!

Just to clarify, the new "clear" Stampin Up stamps are clear mount. They are red rubber cling stamps but they are referring to the mount as clear not the actual stamps. All this stamp talk is confusing me.... I have read a lot of people don't care for the clear stamps. I haven't had much experience with them since most of what I am buying are the red rubber ones. I did get some Hero Arts ones that I think are clear but I haven't used those yet. Cindy

I like clear stamps because they are cheap. But I'm not really a "stamper." I like to use them for accents and sayings, but I'm no artist and I don't color well. So I'll leave the good sets for everyone else! I do have a few good stamps, but most of my collection are the cheapy clear stamps. ;D
