not only did it break, my tree die is still in it. i heard Lifestyle started shipping gears out. if i do not get the gears, is the epic the replacement for the rev? I still want to get my die out before I ship the machine. I will be calling Lifestyle (QK) today.

Yes, I read on another thread that LS is shipping out gears for a fee. The best thing to do is call customer service. This happen to my girlfriend and her husband had to take the machine apart. The die was a little bent but still usable. I wouldn't recommend the EPIC, but a Sizzix Big Shot or some other diecutting machine. I've had so many problems with my EPIC and even after all the "fixes" it still doesn't cut evenly through many of the dies. I personally use the Big Shot for all my cuts now. If it is true that gears are available for the REV I may dust off the machine and start using it again since it is my favorite. I wish I could sell my EPIC and recoup some of the money since it has never worked right.

I'm with Dania on the Epic vs Big Shot question, Twinkles. My Epic is sitting on a shelf in my closet. My Big Shot works great for all the dies I own. Don't have any experience with Revolution problems (so far mine still works, but I use it sparingly). Good luck with getting things "unstuck", and I hope new gears will solve the problem! Gail

Let's ask for a moment of silence for Twinkle's Rev. Ok, now let's get down to business. First thing is to call QK. Tell them you need those gears to finish a Christmas project and that you want them shipped TODAY. (Their shipping can be a bit slow. Painfully slow.) If you get no where with QK or decide that this is the right time to upgrade, I agree with Dania and Gail. DO NOT buy an Epic. The vast majority of them are fine. But there are too many with issues and it is a never ending cycle of frustration. QK has tried to fix it, but it still isn't right. If you do decide to chance it with an Epic, there are some wonderful deals out there. Archiver's has them for $70, with $50 worth of free dies with purchase. I might put up with the machine for $20 and free dies! Cuttlebug's are cheap, but you can't cut wider dies with it. Or you can get a Big Shot for under $100. Well under. Unfortunately, Dani is currently out of stock. However, the Vagabond is in stock... I saw one at ACM today. That puppy is heavy! But it was pretty compact. As far as getting the stuck die out of the Rev--when my Rev broke, I had a die in there, too. Wedged tight. It took DH shoving and forcing it through, still trying to turn the handle and get a bit of help from what gears were left. It was really hard to do and my DH is a big strong guy. Michelle

thanks so much for the info... i really appreciate it. I just called QK and they sell the gears to fix the Rev. @ $1 per small gear (the one where the handle is is all that broke) and you pay shipping. that works for me - i ordered 2 in case it breaks again. I told them i needed the gears ASAP and they are sending them so I am happy. I am definitely going to be on the lookout for a new machine in case though (after reading reviews of the epic it will be prolly a BigKick or Big Shot). i do love my Rev!

I called QK today and they are indeed mailing out gears. There are four gears, at $1 each. And you can only get one set. I guess they don't want a run on them! The shipping was $5. Somehow my original order was lost, but they promised to send them out soon!

LC/QK will be sending a set of gears to my doorstep also. My most-used Rev is still functioning, but I think there's a slight bit of slippage, and I don't want it to quit in the middle of a project, and not be able to fix it. (Heaven forbid that I should have to go upstairs and use the other Rev! ) Their customer service is SO terrific! (Now why can't DMV be the same way? ) **For those of you outside of the US, "DMV" is the Department of Motor Vehicles...quite possibly earning a lifetime record of dreadful customer service!

I got my gears yesterday. That was quick. I just called last week to check on the order and they hadn't been sent out yet. Way to go, QK!

My gears arrived yesterday also! I don't need them quite yet, but it's nice to know there's a backup in the house.
**I put mine in a plastic bag with the repair instructions that QK had sent with the link to their website...it has step-by-step pictures, so I think I could do this!

Diane, did QK send the instructions? Or did you get them off the website? I didn't know about the instructions. I'd like to see those!
I bought a second Rev to canabilize the gears for the first Rev. (I bought it in MN and just brought the gears on the plane.) DH figured it out, but it would be nice to see the "official" instructions.

Michelle There was a link in the email that QK sent to me when I first made the inquiry about purchasing the gears. You could probably contact them and ask them for the link.

Michelle, i knew when i turned the handle and you hear the snap when the gear broke. Get a little phillips screwdriver and take the screw out where the handle is on top. Pull out the handle and you can then take the black plastic side off. you will then see the gear where the handle is. Pull off the broken gear and replace with new gear. put the black plastic side back on and screw handle back on and you should be back in business. HTH. eva

I am such a "visual-learning" person, that I was grateful that QK/LC had very specific step-by-step pictures of the taking-apart-removing-replacing-putting-back-together instructions. There's no chance that I could potentially destroy the whole system this way!
