Can someone tell me if the new Lifestyle boxes and envelope dies have score lines or perforated lines?
Thanks in advance for your help.

the new LC dies have a NEW feature - that I'll be showing on the Scrapy Land blog very soon. But the new feature is NO perforations, and a cool new score line within the die. Totally cool, totally works...I can't wait to show you!!!

I like the idea of no perforations. I love the library pockets, but I made some with single sided cardstock yesterday and the white from the back showed through. I just took an ink pad and swiped it over the edge, so it was an easy fix. But I think I like the idea of scored folds!

A related (sort of) question:
There is no envelope die in the sets, just an envelope liner die, right?
I know all you talented folks whip up envelopes with your ScorPals/MS Scoreboards, but some of us aren't up to speed in that area.
A blog video showing how to make matching envies for the LC sets would be quite enabling, wouldn't it? *hint*

Michelle I made a lot of the pockets recently and I was also disappointed in the perfs. I'm so glad the new dies have scorelines.

Meg I just posted a video on the blog that shows the A2 set - the liners, etc. These dies were made to work with all of the Letterpress envelopes and cards. However - I show on the video that you can find envelopes that still work.
I just used a standard A2 office supply envelope that I had in my stash - and used the liner that way. Worked perfectly. The Letterpress envies are just gorgeous - really high quality and a lovely feel in the hand - but now that I know that regular ones will work - HOORAY!
You just have to make sure your envies have square flaps instead of triangle flaps.
Hope that helps1

Yay! Thanks, Susan! I just bought all the envie sets, the pennants, the ring dies, and a couple other things, so I'm glad the envie issue won't be a problem.
I have a Sizzix Pro dies for A6 and #10 envies, so I'm set there, but I don't have an A7 die (it's on my list!), nor anything for the Square & Mini sets. I'll need to get those in hand to see what I can whip up.
Off to view the video! Thanks again!

I'm watching the video -- I have to say that I'm glad I didn't buy the boxes (and I love little boxes). There is no way I'd sit and hand-score all those folds for mass production. I tend to make things in batches (for classrooms and teacher/staff gifts). They're sure cute and undoubtedly worth it for a single gift, but it'd take forever to hand-score 25-50-75 of them. Is there a reason QK/LC doesn't use scorelines like Sizzix? The "do it yourself" scores are much nicer looking than the perfs, but what a drag to have to hand-score everything! (PS I think that's the Pillow Box, not the Coin Envelope, you used as a sample. ) Oh, and now I need all those nesting shapes. I passed on them since I have all the Nesties, but those sets look very handy!

Okay, I really think the boxes are cute and want to get over the hand-scoring thing.
The scores go in logical places, right? Like at flaps and places that are pretty well defined just by the cut?
For mass production, I bet it'd go fairly quickly to put a stack of cuts near a scorboard and go to town. There'd be no measuring involved; just score, turn, score, turn. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Meg, you're correct! In fact, I didn't even use the scoring guidelines on the die, just lined them up on my Scor-Pal and went to town. The only exception is the pillow box, which has the curved scorelines at each end - for those I used the guidelines on the die. Would recommend using repositionable tape to hold the die in place - I didn't, and my scores were a little bit off..., but still worked out in the end. It is a bit more work, but does look nicer than the perfs, especially if you're using single sided paper. (I usually cut plain cardstock with mine, so the perfs never bothered me!) Meg, I think you'd like the box with two lids - its stinkin' cute (as Susan would say!) Someone asked somewhere - MB on the blog, I think, if all the little label dies in the stationery sets are the same. I can't speak for the A2 set for sure (haven't received it yet), but the label dies for the A7, #10, and Square sets are identical. (I've packed up the duplicates to give to scrappy friends at the next crop.) HTH Gail

Why in the world would LC put the same dies in all the envie sets?! Arg! Very teed off about that! No sizes were given, so I assumed (yes, my bad) that the shapes would at least be different sizes so we could nest them. It never occurred to me we'd be expected to pay for duplicates. Between that and the do-it-yourself scorelines, I'm very disappointed in the release, and I don't even have it in my hands yet. To ward off all the : Yes, QK/LC is wonderful.

Why in the world would LC put the same dies in all the envie sets?! There ARE some differences in some of the sizes. I have both the QK and the LC sets, and they are NOT totally the same. I think Susan addressed this on her blog, but I haven't looked this morning.

I don't understand what you mean by "both the QK and the LC sets." The new release is all LC, isn't it?

Diane, I was talking about the six little label dies that are included in the stationery sets - they're the same dies for all four sets, so you do wind up with duplicates if you order more than one size of stationery set. As Meg says, it would have been nice if they differed in size or shape to avoid duplication. Meg, I think Diane was referring to some of the LC release dies that had similar versions previously released by QK - like the pennant, matchbox, and some of the nesting shapes. Hope this helps! Gail

I don't understand what you mean by "both the QK and the LC sets." The new release is all LC, isn't it? I think Gail/AnnaMatrix cleared this up. I was pretty vague...I'll blame it on the hour of the morning! As Gail said, I was referring to the dies in the LC sets that are similar, but not entirely the same, as the old QK dies (e.g., nesting shapes). I agree...it would be nice if the same shapes didn't show up in different sets, or if LC mentioned that in their product descriptions for those of us who don't have an LCC, where we could go look and compare...before we came home and ordered from Dani! I apologize for being so confusing...I'll try harder next time!

I think Gail cleared up the Q about the same sized shapes. And Susan showed the nesting shapes on the blog. For those collectors who didn't get the nesting shapes the first time around, jump at the chance for the circles, squares, scallops, etc! Those are probably my most used shapes. They are really handy and make a much cleaner cut than a punch. And with so many in the set, you are almost certain to have the right size that you need.
The fun shapes are great to collect, but those nesting shapes are the ones I reach for again and again. They may seem boring at first, but they are really great sets.

Michelle, I whole heartily agree! I love nesting shapes. I was really excited when I realized the new LC nesting dies had so many sizes. They are perfect for my card making. I have plans to mass produce the matchbox, pillow-box and the box with 2 lids. They will make the perfect little extra at dinner parties, company parties, & school banquets ( at each place setting with mints) Cat

The nesting sets look wonderful and I ended up getting them after seeing Susan's video and seeing how many are in each set. I have all the Nesties, but there are so many sizes with these LC sets that I'm sure I'll have any size I need once those join my collection.
I'm going to call and/or email LC and express my disappointment in all the duplicate dies in the envelope sets. I really think it's crummy of them to not even give different sizes so we can layer. It's bad enough that they're all the same shape, but to make them the exact same size/die is really irritating.
I may really let my inner biotch out and mention that I'm not thrilled with the do-it-yourself scoring procedure, either.
Love QK/LC and love most of my dies, but LC missed the boat (IMO) with all the duplicate dies and the extra-step scoring.

Meg, I think it's a good idea to contact LC/QK and let them know what you think about the new sets. Esp if there are new people in the company who may not really "know" how the dies are used. It can only help to give them ideas and feedback. (And let the inner "biotch" out here, but you may get a better response from them if you kill them with kindness!) Michelle

Oh, I won't be witchy. I've got "kill them with kindness" down to an art after decades of volunteer work and begging for donated products and services. lol
I do think companies need to be made aware of what customers like and what they don't like, though. Especially in the case of a new company, it's important they have feedback. There might be new people at LC who don't have the experience with papercrafters that the QK customer service people had.
IMO, LC needs to know that when they put out a release with multiple sets in the same genre, customers do NOT want to pay for the same dies over and over when they buy each of the sets. That said, I can see the reasoning behind having duplicates in the nesting sets, because what LC did was expand upon older (QK) nesting sets. It might have been confusing to "fill in the blanks" of the old QK sets by making add-on LC sets.
Putting exact duplicates in the envelope sets was just wrong, though. Those dies should have AT LEAST been different sizes so we could layer the cuts. Better yet would have been unique shapes. It's not like there's a shortage of unique shapes in the world.

My LC sets arrived today and and the little tag/stamp/seal dies in the Mini Set are smaller than the (same shape) dies in the A2, A7, A10, and Square sets.
However, I now have -- and paid for -- FOUR SETS of the exact same tag/stamp/seal dies because, yes, they are the exact same dies in all four of the larger envelope sets (A2, A7, A10, and Square). GRRRRRRRR
The nested sets are fabulous, though. The largest Pennant die is huge!

Definitely contact QK with your suggestions! I think the more feedback that they receive, the better. I would suggest writing, rather than phoning. Because I don't think the CS reps who answer the phones are the ones choosing the designs. And I'm not sure that critiques are passed along...
One thing that you could consider would be to sell your extra label sets on the FS/ISO board. If you don't want the extra sets, I'm sure someone else could use them!

Michelle has a great idea to post your spare labels on the board to sell... I bet there are Divas who would love them, but might not be interested in the stationery sets. I agree, Meg, it would have been much better to have different sizes so they would "nest" (or at least sell the labels separately so we wouldn't wind up with multiples!), but hopefully our feedback will lead LC to consider issues such as this for upcoming releases. Let's keep our fingers crossed! Gail

If you don't mind hand-scoring, the 123 Paper Crafting system from EK Success is absolutely marvelous! I haven't purchased an envelope, envelope die, box, or box die since I got my hands on that lol. I don't know if Dani carries it though...
I don't know why QK dies don't score by themselves. I have a huge stack of Ellison Design/Sizzix envelope and pocket dies that automatically score and they're amazing. I am forever making mini stationary sets for my daughter with those LOL.
