OK ladies, I thought I would share a picture of this with you. I sent Brittany to California with a few of these, it being the Rose Parade and all. They're fun and easy to make. Phyllis

Phyllis, this is so neat. Would you share how to make it? I bet these pens will be VERY popular as items for your daughter to trade with other band members!! Gail

Those are really fun! And I'd bet that they are nice and durable--just the thing for the traveling gang!
And I second Gail--I'd love to know how you made them!

I posted directions on facebook but didn't finish them here! Duh!! Anyway, here's a few more pics with directions. Tear off a piece of duct tape and fold up to the left (or right if you want but I went left). Leave an adhesive border. Next, fold over to the right and leave adhesive on one end. Then adhere onto pen with the adhesive, the triangle side forms the rose. Keep adding petals/duct tape until the rose is the size you would like it, alternating where the petals are. The first piece forms the center of the rose so make sure it is snug and that it sticks high enough off the end of the pen to hide the pen. You can make a full rose like the one above or just a bud like this pic. I covered the pen itself using a different color duct tape and placing it on the pen lengthwise. I made a black rose with black duct tape and it looks pretty cool!!! Phyllis

2 good things - it stops your pens from rolling off your desk and it stops folks from walking off with your pen!!!! Phyllis

Phyllis, these are just so cute, so glad you did them for her to take with her.
I had no idea duct tape came in colors - where do you get them?
Pat and I were real excited to see the band on tv this afternoon. Did you spot your daughter? Al spoke quite bait about them and their troubles with the weather keeping them from taking off earlier.
Thanks for sharing

Karen, I've seen colored duct tape at Mike's, ACM and Target. It's fun stuff!

Yes, Michelle's right. All the craft stores have it as well as Target. JoAnn's even has polka dot, plaid, and tie dye duct tape. I made a pocketbook with it in the past. You can make a lot of really sturdy things with duct tape. They even have a prom contest every year, and the kids dress in duct tape outfits.

Michelle and Phyllis - thanks for the information on where to get the tape - I will keep an eye out for it and may even give it a try
Phyllis, you are so creative - a purse - to fun. I had your ornament out the other day and was enjoying it on the tree. So glad I did the ornament swap that year!

Thanks for sharing the instructions, Phyllis. It does seem pretty easy... I have a roll of yellow duct tape (can't even remember what I bought it for! ) Think I see some yellow roses in my future! Gail
