No Bake Cookies 2 cups sugar 1 stick margarine 4 Tablespoons cocoa 1/2 cup of milk 1/2 cup peanut butter 3 cups raw oats 1 teaspoon vanilla Combine sugar, margarine, the cocoa and milk in a large skillet. BOIL "1" MINUTE---NO LONGER!!!! Remove from stove and add peanut butter, oats and vanilla until it is well mixed and the peanut butter is dissolved. Drop on wax paper and allow to cool. Store in a cool place... We layer cookies between sheets of wax paper....in an air tight container.....we make double batches by adding the vanilla, peanut butter in the skillet then pour the mixture over the raw oats in a LLLARGE mixing bowl. My family likes them made with creamy peanut butter....but crunchy is good too. Enjoy !!! Cat

Karen, I use medium high to high. It kinda depends on how many batches you are making at once and the stove. (I have a gas stove, electric stove usually boil the indgredents at a lower temp around here.) I only make a double batch at one time and bring the mixture to a boil for only "1" MINUTE.....this is important because if you boil longer cookies taste all right but are dry and crumble easily. (Time..1 Minute from the time it starts to bubble pretty good in skillet to removing from heat) Karen, I hope this helped.... they are really very easy to make. First few times I made them I made single batches....But husband could eat the whole batch before they even cooled. (Rat didn't gain a ounce) Cat

And they're healthy! Look at the oats in there! Fiber! And milk and peanut butter. Can I have these for breakfast? Michelle

Michelle Michelle, I don't know why you couldn't eat them for breakfast LOL except facing chocolate and peanut butter early in morning is a little yucky to me. That being said; my butch don't seem to mind eating them anytime. Just FYI....this recipe is older than I am.....even my mom remembers eating them in the school lunchroom when she was small. (same place I first ate them) Cat

Cat, I remember them from the school cafeteria. All the baking was done by nuns and it was yummy!

Michelle, that's exactly what I said!! Heart healthy oats, calcium and plenty of protein to counteract some of that sugar!! And, yep, I had one for breakfast this morning. Mom is right about how popular these things are at our house. I was finishing up wrapping gifts a day or two before Christmas and mentioned to Dad and Brother it would be nice if someone could clean up the kitchen and make a run to the store...that way I could get right on the cookie making as soon as I was done with the wrapping. Before I knew it, the kitchen was practically sparkling and was stocked with all the necessary ingredients!! Such funny boys!! Those two double batches lasted until New Year's Eve. Of course, that meant I had to make more so I could haul a few back to Houston with me after the holidays!! A couple of tips, especially for those not used to working with cocoa...mix the dry cocoa and sugar together to keep the cocoa from clumping up when you add it to the melted butter and milk. When I made them this time, I measured out the oats and put them in a huge stainless steel bowl then dropped the peanut butter on top of them...since I am a messy cook and couldn't remember how full the skillet would be with cocoa mixture I didn't want to risk getting too close to overflowing by adding the peanut butter to the skillet. You want to drop the cookies on the parchment paper while they are still nice and warm to get pretty ones that are not crumbly so measuring out the oats the PB before starting the cocoa mixture is a very good idea. And have the wax or parchment paper ready to go, too. (I used parchment this time and liked it better than wax paper.) Hope you all enjoy them as much as we do!! Christy (aka Peter Pan)

Ok, here is the recipe. I remember it being pretty darn good, but I don't know that I've ever made these. But fried noodles and chocolate--sweet and salty--yum!
Haystacks 12 oz bag chocolate chips 12 oz bag butterscotch chips 18 oz package chow mein noodles 2 cups salted peanuts, chopped
Melt both bags of chips in a double boiler. Add noodles and peanuts. Form into balls and cool on waed paper, or you can just drop rounded spoonfulls onto waxed paper. Let cool until firm. Makes 18.

Oh, yes, I do remember eating haystacks when I was little. Mmmm, tasty! Can't remember which mom used to make them--I do know is wasn't mama-Cat.
Sister, DIY kits sound like a fine idea to me. Can't you just see boxes of pre-measured ingredients in zip bags? Might be interesting getting peanut butter into the bags but a breeze to squeeze it back out again! Maybe stocking stuffers for the guys next Christmas!! ;D Or maybe for Valentine's Day...
