You have to see this cute layout! It's caused me to think about which weakness I would be willing to confess for my grandchildren, etc. to see in years to come! (Chocolate comes to mind... )

Thanks guys! It was pretty weird for me to do a LO about a STRAW and no kid pics on the page... But the kids have been teasing me for months about this straw and the page just spoke to me. Lots of ribbon, polka dots, rick rack and Coke--what's not to love! And, for the record, diet Coke is NOT my weakness--that straw is! I gave up diet Coke one year for Lent and by day three, everyone was begging me to pick something else. I really need that perk-me-up in the morning!

Ah, so many weaknesses to list, so little time! McDonald's coffee comes to mind. It used to be Starbucks, but I am jumping ship lately! Also, never driving by the craft store, if there is a 40% coupon in my hand!
And Michelle, I was told to never "diss" the soda, so I thought it might just be about the soda, and maybe even package deal of your cool straw and your Diet Coke!

Cat, I love the shaved/pellet ice, too! I've been sick with some sinus crud the last two days and have been drinking cherry kool aide mixed with Sprite. With the shaved ice, of course! Sort of a homemade version of a diet cherry limeade from Sonic. At least I have my fun straw to drink out of!

Yes Sonic ice, when I'm feeling poorly DH or DS goes to our local Sonic and buys a bag of ice. (We have to eat out in Lubbock to get flakly ice). If I could find an old fashion flakly ice maker that was used in resturants years ago......I'd try to snap it up. Silly I know, but there is nothing better than a glass of ice tea with that flaky ice on a hot summer day. Cat

Some friends and I were just talking about flaky or shaved ice on Sunday. I think they might be the same thing. Remember there use to be hand held ice crushers that you turned the handle and crushed the ice? They came in fun colors and had a chrome top. (I'm probably dating myself) I think they made a finer crush than the ones on the front of the fridge make. Is flaky or shaved ice different than crushed?

Yes, Hawaiian Ice makes ice shavers like that. We have one, have had it for years. The kids always loved to make their own icees with it. Target still sells the syrups sometimes. It is plastic and has a chrome handle that you turn. It came with a few plastic containers to freeze water in and then that big ice cube fit right in the top to shave it. Those have cracked over the years but it works with ice cubes too. It's a really fine shave, like snow. I think you can still buy them but I don't know where. I'm sure you can find them online though.

Phyllis, Cat, and Michelle: Try Hawaiianshavedice.com. They sell the ice shavers (manual and electric), and more flavors of syrup than you can imagine. Try Granny Smith Apple - its like the Jolly Rancher candy (but does turn your tongue green!! LOL). We started with the manual machine, then got an electric one. It's great for all kinds of drinks, and they DO taste more special with the shaved ice! Now I can't wait for summer to have one! HTH Gail

We also had a hand-crank ice shaver and loved the icees in the summer. Last summer I got an electric one by Hamilton Beach and I love it. So easy! It does two grades of ice chips, one for snow cones, and one one for slushies. Yum! In the summer, Target and Walmart carry the syrup, but I bet Hawaiian Ice would have a much better selection. I think I am off to browse. Summer comes quick to Albuquerque!

DD asked for a snow cone machine one year for Christmas. Try finding that in December! I ended up getting her an IOU and got one of the cheapie machines from Target or Walmart when they put the summer stuff out. It works fine and it's a big treat on a hot day!
We had to get a new fridge a few months ago and it makes crushed ice--little pellets. I use that when I need my Sonic ice fix!

I didn't think we needed a shaved ice machine, but I may be changing my mind...the Divas are making a convincing argument! I'm off to shop around! (Although Michelle's insulated cup and straw may be calling my name, also!

Cindy, you can buy Sonic ice. Just ask next time you are there!
There are only 2 Sonics in our area, both about 45 minutes from here. But luckily there is a LSS up there, too. I get a bonus when I make the trip--2 fun things in one trip!

If only we had a Sonic in our area...the closest one is 2 hours away (a bit too much for a "quick trip"), so we always try to find one when we''re traveling. One of the nicest ones was in Richmond, Missouri, when we were traveling through there last fall...great service (and great food, of course!

I had never been to a Sonic so when we were in Texas several years ago, my friend and I decided to have breakfast there. We had two choices where we were. The other was McDonalds. I will never go there again. The breakfast burrito was cold and greasy and the coffee was a real experience to say the least. My suggestion if you like powdered coffee go ahead and order. Yes their Latte (which is on the menu is made from hot water and powdered coffee) Then they have the audacity to ask if you want cream with your coffee. The last time I checked a Latte was made with Expresso and Milk. At 0800 hrs it was not a pretty picture. Needless to say I did go across the street to McDonalds which had at least fresh brewed coffee.

Nope, I don't eat the tots. I'm sure they are yummy, but it's the drinks for me! I think way back when, I tried the food and it was just too much grease. So I never ate there again. And I forgot--from 2-4 pm is happy hour. Drinks are half price.

The big drinks are a plus. We visit this small town yearly so it is handy. In all fairness that is the only thing we have tried since the incident. (A smarty pants friend brought me one last trip, since I refuse to cross the drive up again, after the year before)which by the way has been scrapped about. Kim and I have learned when we land (where ever we are) we purchase a disposable ice chest. Then we always have our coke and cold water. Now we are never without. I do have to say Sonic can not ruin a coke, their ice is great! and well Happy Hour is a bonus too!

Wait a minute--diet vanilla Coke? Really? I've never seen that! You had me dazzled with thoughts of tots and I totally missed that. I have a feeling there may be a trip in my near future... And Mary, I would get the diet Coke, but the lure of the diet Cherry Limeade gets me every time! And Coke is my thing!
