Susie, what don't you like about your flowers?
If they just look too perfect, try misting the flowers lightly with water and scrunching them up. Gently uncurl them and they will look a bit more tattered. Let it dry and then roll the rose. You could also ink the edges after you assemble the rose. That may give it more dimension.
Wait until you try them with the QK/LC felt. I think the cleaner lines of the die cut rose will be more appealing when the rose is textural. And I like to use a mix of different flowers on my projects!

its true about the lightweight papers they work tons better than heavy cardstock. I also thought (don't know why) that the bigger flower would fit in the Rev and it doesn't so i just am using the smaller flower. If you cut it out and then use the scallop scisors along the edge, they look pretty nice!

another tip - cut the rose shapes and then cut each one in half. Meaning - start at the outer end and cut the width in half, just following along the entire shape until you reach the center.
you get two flowers for the cut of one...and they are flatter and smaller.
they're CUTE for making fill-ins if you're making an arrangement on a frame, and perfect for cards because they are tinier!

Thank you for all the tips! I just went to Joann's and bought a pair of scallop scissors (I had given my scissors away because I thought I would never use them again, Michelle!!!) and I'm going to try Susan's idea of cutting the flower width in half. I am now so glad I got this die. You guys are so helpful.

Susie, I'll add my 2 cents: After I finish rolling up the rose, I let go of the coil before I glue it. It will unwind a little, but not all the way. I then put a dollop of hot glue on the base, and push the loosened-up coil down into the glue. You'll have 20 secs or so before the glue sets to "arrange" the petals. Once its set, I put the flat of my palm on top, and give a good push. This folds over some of the petal edges to give it a more rose-like look. The amount of pressure you need to apply depends on the heaviness of the paper, so experiment. Inking the edges with a slightly darker shade than the paper also helps! I have used only lighter-weight cardstock, paper, felt or stiffened fabric for these. Don't think heavier cardstock would work unless its distressed first, as Michelle suggests. Thanks everyone, for the other suggestions. Will give them a try! Gail

Thank you for all the tips! I just went to Joann's and bought a pair of scallop scissors (I had given my scissors away because I thought I would never use them again, Michelle!!!) ... I thought I had done the same thing, and almost had the car keys in my hand when I decided to go check an "old" box of supplies first. There they were, and now I'm wondering when I am going to wish that I hadn't given the others away!

Susie, post some pictures. Maybe we can offer some suggestions. Because really, it takes me less than 2 minutes to put one of those roses together. I just sort of slap them out. And honestly? The lighting was b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. when I was photographing the party stuff. Soft and gorgeous and just--well, pretty! (Can that describe light?) So maybe it's just the feel of the pictures? The paper I used was dbl sided, but thin. A rare thing to find. Try just putting some together. Without really trying. Sometimes the imperfect look works better.

Michelle, You are a great encourager I thought I was going to play tonight but instead we watched Coal Miner's Daughter! My DH had never seen it and after he saw the Voyage of the Dawn Treader he wanted to see it because the same director both films. I love country music so I had to watch it again with him. It really is a good movie because it's a true story about Loretta Lynn. I will play tomorrow and then post em all! You will see that I'm not exaggerating that I need help! ps. we had snow today ...after a gorgeous week of weather!

Oh, Susie! SNOW???!!! So sorry to hear that! As Michelle suggested, don't stress so much or try so hard. I'm betting your roses are lovely, but show us some and let us know what you don't like. Maybe we can help? But I second Michelle - I just throw 'em together. When I was younger I used to make most of my own clothes. When I first started to sew, I obsessed about every little mistake, and focused on the "defects" I saw in my work... I soon realized that no one else saw these "defects", and I was being too critical. It helped me relax, and realize that things don't have to be perfect - "good enough is good enough!" HTH Gail

Snow??? Oh Susie, I feel for you! I'd hunker down on the couch and watch a movie, too. The last of our snow went out of our yard last weekend when the gardeners were here, but there's still piles of snirt laying around. And the snow farms still have plenty of snow! I hope it melts fast for you. Post a picture and tell us what you don't like. Chances are, it's an easy fix. And I'll bet Gail nailed it--you are just looking at it too closely. I'd bet some cash we all like your flowers!

It's me again! I woke up to snow again this morning but I had a bright idea for these roses! Have you ever heard of Spectra tissue? It is made to bleed (works great sprayed). Anyway, I wadded a piece up then smoothed it out over the die and voila... I finally am happy with this die. The tissue is cheap and very thin so it works great. I promise I will post pictures tonight. Thanks for all your encouragement, especially with our snow on the flower beds!!!

Spectra tissue is very cool - great idea, Susie! Can't wait to see what you've done with it and the rose die.
Karen, I have occasionally found it in either the gift wrapping or art depts of places like M's. Spectra is the brand name. It's made to bleed when wet, and the colors are gorgeous. You can make a great background by placing torn pieces of the tissue in various colors on cardstock, spritzing lightly with water, then removing the tisssue when things dry. The colors bleed onto the cardstock and give a beautiful effect. You can usually reuse the tissue several times, each go round giving more pastel colors. HTH Gail

I missed out tonight because I was trying to learn how to post my pictures. I am so slow at this but I'm determined to learn. Ya'll are great. I hope this works! I didn't want to make the pictures too big but if anyone is interested I can e-mail them to you so they might be a bit easier to see the detail & how bad several of the flowers looked! Trial and Errors! Tissue Paper worked the best for me. I even sprayed them after twirling & gluing them together. Bottom Left: made with a paper towel i used to clean my messy fingers! Really too heavy. Top right: I sprayed the flower & smushed it...it didn't do much for me! Spectra Rose I wadded up tissue, smoothed it out, cut the rose & twirled it! It is set on the Sizzix Pro Popcorn Box #1. I colored the white box with Spectra Tissue, too. Too much fun! I volunteer with Seniors and this was a quick birthday card I made to celebrate an 85th birthday.

Gail - thanks for the guidance and I will check out M's the next time I'm out. The technique sounds interesting.

Susie, your roses are out-and-out gorgeous. Love the colors, and how delicate they look. I've gotta get some more Spectra tissue and give this a try! Thanks for sharing this technique. See? You thought we'd be helping you, but you wound up helping us! Your birthday card is a hoot! Bet it was much appreciated, and how wonderful that you volunteer with seniors. Gail

Susie you GO GIRL! These flowers look like they're made from organza!! Just gorgeous! Okay - shopping list for tomorrow includes tissue paper...can't wait to experiment!! You guys are so kind! i just loved Michelle's flowers and so I really wanted these dies to work. I bought my pack of Spectra years ago & in my search for tissue paper yesterday I rediscovered it. Any tissue paper would work it just may not bleed which i liked because it really adds dimension, although it is hard to see in my pictures. I wish Dani would carry it because it isn't very heavy and I loved coloring the box! Here are a couple of links for on-line sources. They really are supper easy now!!! Here's a description of the paper: www.pacon.com/paper_products/tissue_crepe/spectra_arttissue.phpHere is a cheap on-line source: www.amazon.com/Spectra-Art-Tissue-Paper-12/dp/B00006IE0H/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1303340469&sr=1-1
