Okay, I am going to stamp, yes I am serious, lol. Now I want to stamp an image and emboss it. I know there is a better ink to use that stays wet a little bit longer. Which one is it? Is it pigment because I remember hearing think pig because it's messy? I need help ladies, lol. Thanks! Vicki
ps. I have to run out and do an errand, will check back when I get home. Please somebody answer because I don't want to screw this up, lol.

Woo-Hoo Vicki is stamping! You are right pigment ink stays wet longer, so holds the embossing powder better. Also, there is clear stamps pads specifically for using with embossing powder. Have fun and good luck! Crafty Girl

Disclaimer: I've never heat embossed, which is what I think you are talking about.
Pigment=pig=messy=wet longer (good for you for remembering that!)
I tip that I've heard is to used colored ink and clear embossing powder. That way, you don't need all the colors of embossing power if you already have the pigment inks.
That's about what I have. I'm slowing adventuring into the stamping world. S-L-O-W-L-Y!

There are at least 2 kinds of ink for stamping images...the most common are: Dye-based (e.g. Memento Ink Pads) - these are relatively quick-drying. I use mostly black and dark brown for outlining images to be colored. Pigment Ink - uses embossing powder (of any color, or as Michelle said, use clear powder and your choice of colored ink) and a heat gun to dry the ink. If you're not in a big rush, 24 hours ( ) is usually sufficient to dry the ink! Pigment inks also add a bit of "texture" to the paper. I have both types, but tend to grab the dye-based, because it's faster and less expensive. ***Dani sells both kinds.

you wanna see what I stamp? Don't put that kind of pressure on me, lol. It's nothing big, just an airplane stamp that I want to add to the first page of my Germany book (yes, the trip I took 2 years ago, lol). I'm going to stamp it, emboss it and then cut it out since the page is already done. I promised my friend that I would actually use a stamp, geez, thought I had nice friends, lol. I haven't even looked to see what I have that I can use. Thought the kind of stamp pad to use was the first thing I have to figure out. I know I have clear embossing powder but I don't have a silver stamp pad but I might have silver embossing powder. Who knows, lol. Off to check my supplies! Vicki

Vicki, I'm really not a scrapper so i know how hard it is to use a new technique! But embossing with stamps is so much fun and it's easy! Pigment ink embosses best and as someone else shared colored ink with clear embossing powder is the easiest. I must admit I do like the Zing embossing powder Dani sells! The colors are so fun. If you don't have a heat gun you can melt the embossing powder over a toaster or a warm clean skillet! My first project I made 100 Christmas embossed cards using a skillet, because i wasn't sure I would ever do it again. That was about 15 years ago. I've been hooked ever since! No pressure!!! smiles, susie

Remember it this way sweetie:
pigment picks up powder
dye dries.

Gail, that's great advice. I have piles of projects that I just toss in the trash.
I've given this advice before, but I buy a ream of card stock from Walmart and play with that. It's about .02 cents per sheet of paper. A VERY small price to pay to just experiement. And then when I find the look I'm going for, I use my good paper. That's how I figured out how to make the paper roses. I just thought I'd see what I came up with and I liked what I got!
I do that when cutting dies, too. There are a lot of new "shapes" that come out when you don't have the colored CS added in there. And if I don't come up with anything, I've only wasted 2 cents!

I just put that white CS on my list for the next time I go to Wal-Mart...I had read Michelle's post before, but had just been helping myself to DH's recycle computer paper. White CS sounds like a much better plan! Thanks for the reminder, Michelle!

Okay, here it is. I am pleased. It's not a big deal compared to all the beautiful things you all do but it's a start, lol. Vicki ps. It doesn't show up but I stamped black because I wanted it to look old and embossed with silver.

Vicki your plane on the page looks awesome!!! Have you heard of the Tim Holtz distressed embossing powders? They are meant to be "rubbed off" after you emboss them. It gives the image a roughed-and-tumbled look since some of the image is "missing". Way to go - give yourself a big pat on the back for stepping out and trying something new!

Vicki, Your airplane is great. You have just shown me I need that stamp! I hope Dani still has it in stock! Did you like stamping?!? I am addicted to it. The Copics have made stamping so much fun, too.

Vicki - you did it! It looks great and I hope you are happy with it, because you should be, I was going to tell you the same thing about the Tim Holts powder that Susan did. (great mindss ... ) Your layout is great, I love the journalling block Karen

Karen and Susan hush now, lol. Don't need to add any more wants to my looooong list, lol. I did like making that. Not enough to get into cardmaking (I'm not good at it) but I believe enough to incorporate it into my scrapbooks from time to time. I really liked I didn't have to color it in, lol. But when that time comes, after watching Susan's great video, I'm going to use colored pencils. I think that is much more up my alley than coloring with the copics. Gotta use what makes me more comfortable. Thanks everyone for the help and taking a peek at the finished product. Gotta figure out what picture to use on the passport cutout, fill in all that info and journal. So glad I got this trip started. Vicki

Vicki, love your finished page! The plane adds just the right accent. That's my favorite thing about stamps - you can make your own embellishments in the style and color you want, and don't have to search through stores and pay big bucks to get them! Now that you've crossed over to the inky side, I'm sure you'll be back again and again! Gail
