Glad to hear that, Karen. We're due to get hit any moment now, but so far, so good! Thanks, Diane for thinking of us. Gail

Stay safe, everyone!
When we lived in Alabama, we had a tornado come within a few miles of the house. One of DD's classmates had their house hit. It was so freakin' scary. I had the kids in the tub and have never wished for a basement so much in my life! I took a picture of the kids ('cause that's what us scrapbookers do! Look kids, your first tornado!) The electric charge in the air fried my camera. It was truly scary!

This is nothing like Alabama has experienced in the last 24 hours, but... One week after my high school graduation, a tornado ripped through my small Kansas town, only 1 block from my home. It killed 15 people (including a high school friend), destroyed an elementary school (thank goodness school was already out for the summer), leveled a friends home, and wiped out all 4 of the gas/electric substations (they were positioned so that a "normal" tornado...moving from SW to NE couldn't hit them all...but this tornado moved NW to SE). Fortunately, it missed the operating oil refinery by about a 1/2 mile, or this town would no longer be on the map. We could stand outside the town and look right down the path that the tornado left...and yes, paper does get driven right through telephone poles. It is still the most frightening experience in my life. Sending prayers that all of you stay very, very safe!

When we were in Ohio, we spent an evening in the basement. My crazy kids thought it was cool. I was scared and pretending that I was in control. Oops, didn't take pictures though.
And on way more serious note, prayers to the south for their loss and lots of hope for recovery.

Diane what an experience that I'm sure you never want to have again. Glad you made it thru.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all that have had their lives affected from these storms.

Alive & well in Huntsville, AL--- Wednesday was a scary/freaky day that I hope will never happen in my lifetime again. SO grateful to have the roof over my head, no trees down. Electricity went out at 4:30 PM and did not get restored until Monday @ 12:30 AM. First time ever that I can remember my city having a dawn to dusk curfew but we had looters with one burglar getting shot/killed (no charges to be filed) by the gas station owner. Most grateful that my son in Tuscaloosa is alive-- 15 students living off campus were killed outright when their apartment building collapsed. Son called saying "Mom I can see the funnel cloud coming behind Denny Stadium!" Mom (me) was shrieking at the top of her lungs "Get away from that window!!!! Get to a safe place! Call me when you are safe!" Thank God, his dorm stayed intact. School got canceled for the rest of the term. Surreal. One of my dear scrapbooking friends lived too close to the hardest hit area in our county but she made it thru with a husband smart enough to have a generator to keep them with a running refrigerator. We who didn't have generators are in the process of restocking. I started working in a grocery store this past November. My last day off happened to be that horrible Wednesday. The only smart thing I did was get gas for my car. Amazing what little things we take for granted can mean-- hot showers, lights, A/C, ICE, the list goes on. Just grateful my loved ones are all accounted for with minor to slight damage. I'll take restocking a freezer & a refrigerator any day over dealing with the death and destruction that others in my community have going on right now. Thanks for all your prayers! RocketCityUSA/ Leslie

Leslie, thank goodness you and your family are safe! We lived near Montgomery for a year. Hurricane Ivan came right over Montgomery and dropped a tree on our house on the electric connection. Everyone in the neighborhood lost power EXCEPT us. The devastation was incredible and it took months for the piles of refuse to get picked up from the curb. One stop and the truck was full. Stay safe! And welcome to the board!
