Along the lines of Michelle's post, how do you enter journaling on a layout? Handwritten? Computer-generated? Both/it depends?
I usually use the computer, because I think it looks nicer, but I realize that my own handwriting should be somewhere in an album.

I'm a big "handwritten" kind of girl...but every once in a while, especially if the page is not for me, I'll use the computer. But since I'm usually about speed and gettin' it done - handwriting is what is easiest and fastest on my pages!

I would say about 90% of the time I do handwritten journaling. There are times I use computer generated but for the most part I prefer just handwriting it now. Susan turned me around and now I just like doing the handwritten journaling better.

I wouldn't say that I do journaling - I would call it labeling and short sentence explainations so it would be to much effort to print from the computer for such a small amount of writing

If I had handwriting as nice as Susans then I would commit to 100% handwriting. But because half the time I cannot read my own writing I use the computer. I picked "It depends" because occasionally I will write something myself (as per Susan's inspiration) but most of the time it is the computer or LC fonts Cindy

I now do both, but used to be strictly a computer-generated kind of girl. Then Susan started putting the pressure on, and shamed me into doing some handwritten journaling! LOL If handwritten, I always do it on a separate journaling block, and don't attach it to the page until last. Hate to ruin a page by a slip of the pen! Gail

I hand write my journaling. It's just easier. I don't have a computer in the studio and I just like to get the page done. Plus, I feel that my scrapbooks are sort of a "gift" to my family and my handwriting is part of it. I have all of my mom's recipe cards and I love to see her handwriting. She died over 20 years ago and it's like a part of her lives on.
However, there are a few times when I will use computer journaling. The kids' birth stories were written on the computer and tucked into a pocket. They were too long and complicated to write out by hand. And I have a mini album of our trip to New Orleans where I did computer journaling. I liked the look of a script font rather than my handwriting and I wanted to keep the look clean. And it's an 8" x 8" album, so there wasn't a lot of extra space for journaling.

I try and write cursive and I just can't do it. I print just like my father does - blocky, plain and boring. However it's usually readable. I wish I had a cuter penmanship - but I just can't make it happen. I practice and practice, doodle and draw and I always end up back in my icky old block printing. However - it's mine. My kids know it, my sister knows it, my nephew knows it and my mother-in-law knows it. It took me several years to embrace the fact that writing is so personal and so meaningful. Even though YOU may not like your handwriting your kids might feel differently. If it's your cursive/script that you don't like have you ever tried printing instead. Elementary letters? That's how I started because no one can read my cursive!!! I just love it when someone decides to try handwriting on their pages - I feel like a tradition has been started!

I do the old 1960's primary school print on most of my stuff. It's not pretty but at least people can read it. (years of being a teller for the express lane can mess-up ones cursive writing for sure ) Scary Cat

Love that, Cat!
And years of being an elementary school teacher will mess up your printing. My printing is SO plain--round and straight. But the little kids can barely read, much less read cursive. So I'm great at printing. It's just boring!
Susan, I think your printing is very architectural. I like it!
So here's a question--does your mood affect your writing? The other day, I was trying to dash off the Royal Wedding page to Susan and get out the door for DD's play performance. Not only is my writing cramped and shaky, I misspelled a word. I think when I'm relaxed and happy, my writing shows it. I like my writing much better then.

Yes, any kind of pressure does affect my cursive handwriting, thats the reason I started to print as a teller. I had the meanest long term substitute teacher in the first grade...after getting hit on the back of the hand with the metal edge of wooden ruler so many times I "PRINT great" under any kind of pressure....(my real teacher had a heart attack the first six weeks of school) (That kind of Sub is what gives substitute teachers a BAD name.) I can't spell worth a hoot under pressure..... My printing IS affected if I feel bad.....but I think a lot of people's printing and /or cursive is affected then...... Michelle, I had the hardest time learning to print decent on the chalk board when I was substituting...... Cat

Cat, I'm getting flashes of Harry Potter and Dolores Umbridge! And to think, they don't really even teach penmanship anymore.
I had lines on my chalkboard. And yes, I used chalk, not whiteboards or Smartboards! So it was fairly easy to write. Now, my kids have iPads in the classrooms and Smartboards. What a difference 25 years makes!

...So here's a question--does your mood affect your writing? ...I think when I'm relaxed and happy, my writing shows it. I like my writing much better then. Absolutely! And since my cursive writing isn't nearly as readable as my printing, I print almost everything except my signature (e.g., on checks, etc.)

There are times when I love my handwriting but it is usually a grocery list that gets tossed!! When I try to do a good job is when it stinks!! I think it depends on the way I hold the pen or if I am in a hurry or not so more times than not the computer gets the story told.
