So what is everyone doing over the weekend? Any big plans? We are currently packing up to go to the Cape. We rented a cottage out there and I'm looking forward to doing NOTHING for a few days. When we get back, the moving stuff will start up. ICK! I'm going to my happy place and just thinking beachy thoughts.

I'm getting ready to go out and put the R/W/B banners on the railings on our front porch in a bit, and we'll leave them there all weekend. We'll go to the local park for a while on Monday morning for the Fourth celebration. Then in the afternoon, we'll drive the 30 miles to MIL's house...DH says we're not staying more than a couple of hours. I recognize that she's elderly, lonely, and pretty tactless (one of the reasons she's lonely), but she's still DH's mom. Of course, if Dani posts the LC release early (cough, cough)...all of these plans could change! I know where my priorities are! Happy Fourth, everyone!

quiet weekend for me. Hubby is in Virginia attending a family reunion, I am here by myself trying to stay out of trouble. Was thinking about going out and watching the fireworks at the mall but they haven't decided whether they're going to be allowed to do it (dry conditions here) so may be no fireworks this year. Oh daughter and I are going to see Cirque du soleil's show Alegria tomorrow, can't wait! Other than that, I'm hoping for peace and quiet! Vicki

Prayers for me PLEASE!!! Plans were like yours Michelle, some rest and a little me time. But my Mom and Sister stopped by this morning, and my Mom can ruin any relaxed and calm feelings I have in just seconds. They just left and I'm having chest pains from trying not to cry or slug the walls. \ She pulled what I call the "Poor Pitiful Me" act because when she wanted me take off work to take her to an appointment I told her I couldn't and that hubby couldn't either. I have given her times and dates that we can and will take her places.....and even reminded her this morning of the times and told to change her appointment. Well she started in and I finally said "don't go there, because I can't take off." Well now, She's in a huff and will just cancel everything because she doesn't want to inconvenience us.......guilt trip, guilt trip, guilt trip.............(and who said being a parent is the hardest thing we will ever do.....being a parent has been a piece of cake compared to having Mom always acting this way) Please say some prayers for me to be calm, have more patience and more tolerance when Mom confronts me, Please. Sorry about the rant please understand I needed my friends. Cat

Prayers coming your way, Cat! You have nothing to feel guilty about hon, except that your Mom is trying to manipulate you into feeling that way! Good for you for standing up to her. Just because she needs transportation help doesn't mean you must drop everything to accommodate her. She owes you the simple courtesy to check with you first about any scheduling that involves you. Sometimes it amazes me that family often treat each other with LESS consideration than they would show a complete stranger! Try to let her tantrums just roll off your back, sweetie. Sometimes dealing with parents is a lot like dealing with toddlers, except I don't think we're allowed to put them in "time out"! (Which is too bad! ) Gail

Oh, Cat! Your mother and my MIL were cut from the same cloth! Good for you for telling her "no" and I truly understand the pouting that can follow that word. It's difficult to find a balance between "well, she IS my mother/MIL" and "I/we just can't do that right now...remember when we told you when we were available?" Good for you for recognizing the guilt trip! My MIL is somewhat forgetful, and there are times when she probably doesn't remember that we have other obligations, but there are also far too many times when she...like your mother...has the expectation that, at any given moment, we can drive the 30 miles to her home and pick her up to take her to an appointment/shopping, and then go home again! for her, that is! You have my and prayers! Go play and tell yourself that it's really okay!

Cat--> We are across from the lodge this year. And I'm getting a WiFi signal--whoo hoo! DD figured it out right away when she was playing on her touch. Why is she smarter than I am? Today was gorgeous! We went out at low tide and found tons of sea creatures on the sand bar. I even found a starfish--those are pretty rare around here. It's my favorite place! And after dinner, DH and I went on a sunset walk on the beach. Very romantic! Our 21st anniversary was 2 days ago, so it sort of feels like anniversary WEEK here! LOL Vicki, I'm envious about Cirque. I saw some sort of mini show when we were living in Vegas. It was absolutely amazing! Diane, I'm glad you found your banners. I have no idea where mine are. Hopefully I'll find them when I unpack from the move! I'm sure I tucked them away somewhere safe. But it would be nice to put them on the deck railing here. Cindy, your weekend sounds relaxing. We will see family in August--I'm missing them lots lately! We usually go home in July, but aren't going until August this year because of the move and DH's job. But the good news is that he can take some leave in August, so he will come with us. And the gardens will start producing soon, so there will be fresh sweet corn and garden tomatoes. The best food ever!

Sounds like a wonderful time Michelle! The show was amazing. We had front row seats and it was so cool to see things up close and have eye contact with some of the performers. Though being that close to the two guys with the fire batons was a bit unnerving. Daughter and I commented we hoped they kept a tight hand on them, lol. All the performers in the Cirque shows are amazing. Hubby is in Virginia attending his family reunion. He asked if I wanted to go and said I wasn't up to all the drama that usually happens so I was good with staying home alone! Vicki

now Virginia is a big state, lol. You moving to Virginia Beach? Hubby's in Charlottesville, opposite side of the state. BUT I'd have no problem having him flying into Norfolk and dropping me off and him driving to Charlottesville, lol. Vicki

Vicki, we will be in northern VA, just south of the beltway. But Norfolk is just 2 hours away and they have a great quilt shop, scrap store and the kids godparents are down there! I think Charlottesville is about 2 hours away, too. There's lots to do in that area and we haven't spent much time in that direction!
