to the "favorite 2x2" question on the blog yesterday!
LOVE reading the answers!
So how about this one...if you could bring back one retired die {single, double or collection} what would it be???
Inquiring minds....

The Sophia alphabet (or is it Sophie). I chose to open the Maggie alphabet for the store demo instead and although I really like Maggie, sometimes I wish I had opened the Sophie one instead!

Ana - I am not sure if you know this but KS-0107 is the original bunny die. C-KS-0107 is the remake of the die, it is not the original. It lessons the value of the die.
I have the 2x2 but would love it as a 4x4 too. I like to add flock to mine and make it all fuzzy =)
And for those who like the whales (KS-0236 Orca, KS-0234 Humpback, and RS-0233 Moby Dick) you can find them as Re-Releases on Ebay. Just know it's not the original and not worth a hefty price or worth money for resale value.
Every once in a blue moon the originals pop up but be aware they go for a hefty price. I paid $100 for the original humback and $60 for the original moby. LOL Yea...SO worth it though. Ha ha

Thanks Lori Ann hadn't realized it, I had copied it from evilbay. My other favorite is the turkey...I love that die, wicked cute. The only die I've really paid the big bucks for is the 4x4 Giraffe. I had to save up for that one. It cost a total of 2bones ($200). Yikes!!! I hope the hubby doesn't read this! It's been worth every penny.

OH HOLY SMOKES.... maybe I need to inspect my stash a bit closer...and see if I'm harboring a die that's worth some moolah!!! HAHAHA.... oh I know - spoiled former QK employee/spoiled Scrapy Land employee - but I don't think I ever realized you were paying that much money for dies???!?!?!?!?! I'm off to open a bottle of Chardonnay...my favorite brand that's $8.99 a bottle...what would $8.99 buy me on eBay??? LOL LOL love ya girls!!!!

I spent a smidge over $200 one time...but it was for the Utah exclusive set (8 dies), which came out just about the same time as the Winter Olympics in Utah (was that 2000?) I think it was the first set/dies identified as "exclusive".

Oh My! Here I thought people on evil-bay had lost their minds when they wanted $75.00 and much, much more for A's Giraffe. I fell in love with that little fella when he came out.....but was short of money and decided to wait a week or two before sending Christy after him. Well he sold out really fast and I have regretted it ever since. But I can't and won't give such prices for him......I have resigned myself to the fact he is out of my reach and I'll never own him..... Sorry ladies I'm a little on the hard headed side when it comes to paying those prices. Cat

I agree that it's crazy what some of those go for! I did break down and get that monkey though. I require all things monkey. My son made these ridiculously adorable monkey sounds minutes after he was born and everyone we called asked if I had given birth to a baby boy or a monkey, and it just gets more monkey-fied from there. I watched a billion auctions and checked everywhere for a decent price, but eventually bought the cheapest one I found when I couldn't take it anymore. He wound up costing $60. Not too heartbreaking, but it IS just one 4x4 die. I love so many of the ones I can't find but that's the only one I would pay so much over retail for (at least so far)

Hello, my name is (insert your name here) and I'm a QK/LC addict..... I think the most I've ever paid for a die was ~$50....the exclusive bunny die from Scrapy Land!! He came back, I'd never seen him before....it was love at first sight and I had to have him!! Now, mind you, I know I've paid this a few times for dies, but I vividly remember punching in the CC numbers for this one!! As for a retired die that I would bring back.....hmmmmm......the any cookie or truffle die in a larger size, or some of the 2x2 tags in a larger size. Pam

On that note...remember when the QK alphabets were ~$200 PER alphabet??? $200 for upper case AND $200 for lower case???!!! I've paid that a few times and have a hard time parting with those just because of how much I originally paid...not that I actually use them alot anymore!! Pam

didn't have too many alphabets originally cause those prices were ridiculous. Now I have lots, lol. The most I paid was about $27 for the seagull. Had to have him and that was the cheapest I found him for and I wanted him so bad. Vicki

That's soo true, Pam! I remember first selling them when they were brand new products in my shop. The first blue handheld tool was $100! I had the hardest time selling them for a while! I know the Rev would have been an easy sell had I still owned the store when it came out. Now I can't even unload the original tool for $10 on eBay without adding some other items. And the alphabets-gosh! My dad was hesitant for me to open one for making samples with because of the wholesale price, but I coerced him to let me open maggie lowercase and shadow eventually. My LSS was still selling some of the $199 for full retail when they were closing down early this year. When their inventory reached 95% off Quickutz, I grabbed every alphabet left! Maddie Anne for $8? Definitely please! $200 is just nuts now for an alphabet, but some of us had no choice back then! I also remember when I worked at Michaels before having the shop and Sizzix came out. I was over the moon. I was buying those first basic shadow alphabets, one letter at a time. Weren't those like $12.99 each or something? Amazing how much better the companies became at finding cheaper ways to make the dies (thank goodness!).

OK I will play:
Retired Shapes:
Apple RS-0016 Candy RS-0118 Cake RS-0492 Cat RS-0183 Flipper RS-0030 Frozen treat KS-0068 Hydrant RS-0181 Pig KS-0132 Pig KS-0070 Snorkle
(I go back and forth on the snorkle and the flipper.... I love the origional shapes. Since I do not own the Epic and have no plans to buy one... the releases have been limited to shapes that I can cut in the Rev..so I have bought very little in the past year... but the prices on some of these retired dies are sill steep in today's economy.)

Jenn - I was able to get the Apple for $20 and then $2.00 s/h on Ebay last year. It's the original not the C (re-released die). I also found the Apple Core and Acorn that I wanted.

Oh, I remember when DH and the kids gave $69.00 on sale for the squeeze ( longer black handles) and 5 2x2 dies for me. ( I was in the hospital after having 2 major surgeries and a long bed rest was call for) I had been looking at different die cutting systems and QK's had caught my eye. This is what I wanted for Christmas....but .they decided I'd be much happier about the pending 6 weeks of bed rest if I could have something to play with. It seemed like a small fortune for that squeeze and those 5 dies....but I used those dies over and over and over and still love using them. I have got my money's worth from them. They are still very special to me because of my families thoughtfulness and because they were my first dies and tool. Great memories Cat
