okay, YES, I'm going to be THAT MOM! The one who brags about their kid - because I'm just about ready to bust!! My daughter found out late last night that she MADE the Cornhusker Marching Band! OHMYGOSH my hubby and I are so excited! She plays the piccolo, and was up against 40-some girls (and 2 boys!!) for 27 spots. I literally sweated all weekend long - 2 full days of marching tryouts and yesterday was all playing tryouts. I was exhausted just looking at the schedule - but all of those kids gave it their all. As my daughter said "mom - I left everything I had on the field!" Now begins the fun - college band, college friendships, a band 295 members strong! First year for the Cornhuskers to be in the Big 10 - a band road trip to Michigan {the Big House!!}. A year of firsts - for everyone!! And guess what I discovered last night - college kids LOVE to have their pictures taken!!! LOL - especially the boys! So much more so than high school kids - they're all GOOFS!!! So I'm beaming today - one proud momma!!! Have to break out the Scrapy Land Exclusive music border die - hello scrapbook pages!!!!!

Hey Congratulations to your daughter! That's Awesome! My son was in marching band through high school, then went on to Drum and Bugle Corps for 4 years. He now has his 4 year degree in Music Performance. He couches a Drum and Bugle Corps in the summer, and couches a high school marching band in the fall. I soooo love, love, love watching those kids on the field. They work harder then the football players! I am very happy for your daughter. Go Huskers!

oh thanks so very much ladies! I think other than waiting for scholarship news - this was the hardest thing to wait for EVER! They worked those 400 kids for 2 straight days - SO HARD. Luckily we had really decent weather here in NEbraska. AFter that many hours and drills and sectionals and dry runs I felt like they should all make the band. But only room for 295! We all sat outside the college of music last night, on pins and needles Then the tears started - as the first people who walked past us had not been chosen...the tears - ohmygosh, then I started to cry. I was worried that an out of state girl might not get selected, over an in state girl. I was so worried. I literally had my head buried in my hands when my dad says "there she is"...and all I could see was a beaming girl come running toward my parents and I. OHMYGOSH - I get goosebumps just typing it out. So much fun! Thanks for letting me ramble...LOL...thanks for the congrats. Now to figure out how I can talk my way into the uniform room for "fitting day"...I won't be here for the first uniformed performance, but I HAVE to get a picture of her in her cape and shako. Time to lay on the charm...and bake some cookies for the uniform coordinator!! LOL THANKS DIVAS.....

That is so awesome!!! SOOOO glad it all worked out! I could tell from some of your posts that there was a little excitement about tryouts!! AND she's coming to The Big House, huh?! Any chance you'll be there too?? I grew up 1/2 hour from there and used to go to at least 1 game/year. Didn't go to college there though. I went to a smaller college down the street from UofM (Eastern Michigan Univ.). Pam

oh you Michigan girls are killing me!!!
Their one full-band road trip this year is to Michigan - they are so excited!!!! The mystique surrounding The Big House is nothing my daughter knew about, but my father gladly stepped in and schooled her! LOL
They come to town for the mid November game - my girlie is already nervous-as-all-get-out about how cold it will be in Michigan in November!! While I'd love to say we'd be there - it just isn't in the cards. That's a long trip from AZ...although hubby might be willing if someone could figure out how to get him tickets....hint, hint!!!! Do keep me posted if you have connections ladies!!!!
Thanks for the good wishes - such a fun week, lots to do before I head home. Getting everything set and making sure I have enough pictures to scrap until I see her again mid October for homecoming...that's a million years from now - right?!?!?!?

So awesome! Being a mom is SO hard sometimes, but when you get to brag and be proud, it makes it all worth it. And I'm so lucky that Cody gives me LOTS of opportunities to be proud! (he takes after his mom of course)

I had to drag this post back up just to say... GO BADGERS We welcome the Cornhuskers to Camp Randall for their Big Ten debut! Looks like them Nebraskan fans are going to try and sneak in by wearing black and posing as Badgers fans to score last minute tickets! There's gonna be a lot of RED in Wisconsin this Saturday! It's crazy how many are traveling from Nebraska for this game, and how many are willing to traverse the globe knowing they won't get into the stadium but are content to watch from a local bar. This game is such a huge deal!!! As a former piccolo captain, I'm immensely proud of your daughter, Susan, and good luck to her team! But, of course, I'm gonna have to cheer on my Badgers in reality

OH NIKKI! I kept wondering if you were going to mention this today!!!! LOL - I LOVE IT! The Lincoln newspaper is reporting that 30,000 Cornhusker fans are en route to Madison right now! 30,000 - HOLY SCRAP that's a lot of loyal fans! And the press conference two weeks ago was the first time EVER the NU Athletic department has asked fan to wear a color OTHER than red! "Pack your black" was the headline yesterday, on campus and off! I LOVE IT! And just so you know - the phrase flying around the NE facebook pages is this: "Thanks for the hospitality Isconsin!? We're bringing home your W!" HAHAHAHA!!! It's going to be a tough one - #6 and #7 going head-to-head. But I think Madison might be a tad surprised when the Husker fans show up! We're hoping to kill-em-with-kindness and shock-'em-with-support!!! Can't wait to watch the game - my fingers are crossed! The marching band is not on this trip - just the pep band. Evidently the WI fans are not always the most hospitable to visiting teams - so the band decided for the safely of the band - they'd take the entire 295 members to Michigan instead! The BIG HOUSE...come the middle of November! GO BIG RED - I'll be checking in tomorrow Nikki!!!

Oh Susan I missed this thread....(date makes it look like we were on vacation then) Congratulations to your daughter for making the Marching Band in College. I know a lot of hard work and time are dedicated to be in a marching band. Congratulations to you & your husband too! By the way .... you failed to read all the paperwork they give you when they release you and your newborns from the hospital. There is a certificate that entitles you to full bragging rights at any time as the mother of that child. Cat
