...a mountain lion, oh my! We got an email from the homeowners' association, letting us know that a couple of our neighbors (a few blocks away, but still...) spotted a mountain lion yesterday. While it's not unusual to have a report every few years, it's still unnerving. Several years ago, they trapped one strolling down the main street in town early in the morning. With the deer herd that spends time in our yard, it wouldn't be impossible to find one looking in our window... ! When I take my daughter to work, we always stop while she gets the newspaper out of the parcel box, so I'll be looking all around before she gets out of the car, now. Yowza!

Diane, unnerving to say the least. We have had mountains in our area for a few years now. It seems they have moved down from the mountains looking for food. I've heard our coyote population has decreased even due to them. My Mom lives in the area where they have been spotted several times and livestock have come up missing. My brother has been worried about Mom going outside. There are lots of Arizona Cypress growing around her house, so my brother would prefer she stayed inside unless he is around. ( I believe wishful thinking on his part, but she does listen to him better than she does to me.....and they do live together) People are taking extra precaution letting their kids play outside especially at dusk and after dark. You and your family stay safe! Cat

We had a mama bear and her cub spotted over by the high school this week. And we live in a pretty populated area. It's crazy! When we lived on the Air Force Academy, bears were quite common. They like to rummage in the trash bins. One night, I ran out to the van to get a book I had left in there. I rounded the corner from the front door, and there was a bear sitting under the tree in the front yard. The kids had had snack there that afternoon and I guess he found the leftovers. We had snack indoors after that!

Oh My!!! Guess this should be Lions, Tigers and Bears! Cat You're right! And not only in Michelle's front yard! A couple of years ago, a smallish bear showed up in the yard (about 1/2 mile from our yard), and did the people go right in the house and call 911? No, the wife got food out of her kitchen and started feeding it while her husband took some pictures and then called 911. This is a great example of not using one's brains...there was no way to tell whether or not this was an older cub, with the mom nearby, or a lone bear on its own. (Still rolling my eyes!)

I'll never understand some people......feeding wild animals is not only dangerous for them, but also for people who come in contact with them later Oh, I know I'm not making much sense....I just get upset when I think about it. A child, elderly person or even pets could be in their own backyard and be attacked just because someone didn't use common sense on a former encounter with the animal. Cat
