How about an old fashioned, movie style popcorn popper? I have seen several around at different price points. Along with some popcorn, bowls, movies?

The game Apples to Apples, with a personalized popcorn bucket/treats. You know, sort of an entertainment package...but Apples to Apples is a must! Great family game!!

Apples to Apples is a fun game!
My kids still love game night and they are 12 and 14, 7th and 9th grade. You could do a game or two (Life is on sale at Target for $8 this week), a movie for after the games and a coupon for take out somewhere (my kids would vote pizza.)
Or maybe passes for Lasertag as a family? Go carts? Those are things I probably wouldn't go out and spend money on, but if I had a gift card, I would do it because the kids would love it!
Last year we took care of a neighbor's cat and she gave us a gift card to the movies. Movies are expensive! We saw something in 3d (even more expensive!) and I let the kids get the $4 box of candy. They were in heaven!

Do they have big or little kids? The movie bucket is a nice idea. Maybe a stay-cation package with movie tickets etc.?

I actually have a couple of friends who hate popcorn...they filled another friend's room full of popped popcorn when we were in college and they swore they would never even look at popcorn again! I'm just glad I wasn't in on that one since I had my own popcorn experience in high school.
What about substituting hot chocolate and cool mugs for the popcorn?
Or ice cream and bowls?

Hot chocolate/coffee is good. A panini press? My kids love ours. Movie tickets and gift card to dinner out. Bowling or mini golf certificates? I am sure they'll love what you pick. If you wanted to do a board game cranium or taboo are fun too.

How about Uno Attack for a game? My kids love that game, but it seems a silly waste of $20, as we already had the card game. But it's the perfect sort of thing for a gift!

I just bought a cake ball maker from Kohls - my son LOVES it and my daughter gets mad at us whenever we send her pictures of a stack of cake balls! LOL She's anxious to get home. How about a cake ball maker {it's cute and purple and not that big once it's out of the box} and some "gourmet" cake mixes...red velvet, confetti, etc, and some fun frosting/dips like hot fudge, sprinkles, etc. I think that'd be an awesome family gift... the same company {Babycakes} that makes the cake ball maker makes a little donut maker - same exact concept, just a different shape. But that cake balls are so cute - and seriously it works really well, and they cook SO DANG fast. You get a dozen in about 5 minutes! My son just hangs over my shoulder while the timer is going!

- I love this idea for me.. Unfortunately she doesn't bake. However, I do love the panini press idea. I don't believe she has one of those and I use mine frequently. I also love the Hot Choc idea..I know Williams Sonoma has this great shaved chocolate for Hot Chocolate..and a Salted Carmel one..ok..I am off to see what I can do...thanks so much ladies. I think this will now complete my Christmas Shopping for the season.

DD would love that cake ball maker. But I'm a bit rabid over birthday cake--maybe that wouldn't be such a good thing to have in the house? But then, how many calories can be in one little ole cake pop?

I think this will now complete my Christmas Shopping for the season. just to clarify - this really isn't baking, it's squeezing and waiting and eating! {I put the batter in a zip lock baggie and snip the end off, so it's squeeze-wait-eat} and I don't bake either - except sugar cookies, and an occasional Texas sheet cake for my husband. Trust me - THIS is not baking! LOL Your idea sounds great - throw in some chocolate covered spoons for stirring and some coolio/fancy-schmancy mugs if you have space! great ideas everyone! And Michelle - there are no calories in cake balls, I checked. Spherical objects are calorie free - didn't you learn that in college???

Trust me if she has to use a cake mix and put it in the oven (or in this case a machine) that is baking to her. She just buys all her stuff from the grocery store prebaked. I know..I know seems like a no brainer but to her it's baking

Susan, I was an English major. No math involved--really! I never took a math class in college. It was a math/science criteria and I just took science classes. So much for suffering through Calc and Trig in high school--they told me I'd need it for college. Well, it turns out I didn't!
But good to know about the spherical objects. Does this apply to cookies, too? Or does it actually have to be a 3-D ball shape? But then, that would apply to Russian tea cakes and bourbon balls, right!
Kohl's has some really cute Christmas dishes on sale. Maybe you could find some mugs and jazz it up from there. Gourmet hot chocolate sounds yummy!

Miss Christy knows about making great family Christmas gifts. Several years ago on Christmas morning she gave us all large mugs decorated with pine trees covered in snow. All hand decorated and painted by her. She made her hot chocolate recipe. I still use my mug for hot chocolate. Cat
