To add a little to your dilema, I'd recommend the Eclips by Sizzix. I don't know about the ecraft but I've been strugeling with my Silhouette way too long and wasted too much nice paper in trying to find the right settings that I finally sold it and didn't want to take the risk going throu it again with the Cameo. On this website you can read a good side by side comparision of the Cameo, Ecraft and Eclips www.scrapyourstory.com/electronic-die-cutting-machine-reviews/ It helped me a lot. I chose the Eclips mainly for it's superior cutting preasure, the ease of use and the laser preview feature, which shows you exactly where the machine is going to cut. So far (6 weeks) I'm very very happy with it. Btw, cutting mats and blades are cheaper than those for the Cameo. I wanted a system that can operate both with a computer program (Ecal = Sure Cuts a Lor autorised by Sizzix, which came in a bundle with my machine) and cartridges. I attend two weekend retreats a year and I don't want to lurk my laptop or manual cutting system around with me. Last year some girls at the retreat spent hours and hours looking in the Silhouette library for "the perfect cutting file" for their pages. I know, I'd do that too and waste my precious scrapping time - not a good idea. So I got a couple of basic, versatile cartridges half off and these will do for the retreat. HTH

I have to agree with Susan. I really liked my original Silhouette, but I adore my Cameo! A few other things I love that Susan didn't mention: Can take input from designs saved to an SD card - you can use it on the go without having to bring a computer. FREE software updates - and they update frequently. Easy to use software, with online tutorials both at the website and the blog. A FREE shape every week Clearance shapes every week. GREAT designers: Echo Park, Hero Arts, Looney Tunes, Lori Whitlock, to name a few... Lots of new designs every week. Designs are sold individually - 99 cents for most shapes, 1.99 for licensed ones like Looney tunes and Harry Potter. No need to spend money for an entire cartridge just to get one or two shapes you like. Periodic sales on all shapes. Subscriptions really cut down on costs - my subscription allows me to get regular shapes for the equivalent of about 10 cents each! GREAT customer service (I know Susan said this already, but it bears repeating!) Don't think you'll be sorry if you go with the Cameo! Gail

Doesn't seem that way to me, Dina - Dani sells the 12x12 mats for 13.99 each. I got my Cameo when they first came out (last October, I think!). I use it a TON, and I'm on my 3rd mat, which is still going strong. I'm still using my first blade, which shows no signs of getting dull. Hope this helps, I know it's a hard decision to make! If you know anyone who owns a Cameo, maybe they'd show you the ropes, or if you have a local scrapbook store that sells them you might be able to see a demo. You could also consider exploring all the info on SilhouetteAmerica.com and their blog: blog.silhouetteamerica.com. both sites are full of great info and tutorials that would let you get a feel for the software and designs. Good luck with your decision!! Gail

Count me on the Cameo bandwagon. I like being able to make my own designs and I don't know if you can do that with the Eclips. I think it is cool with Eclips you can buy cartridges from Tim Holtz that will cut his stamps out for you, but to me that doe not justify the expense of another die cutting machine. Cameo and Cricut are enough. The mats are not any more expensive than other machines IMO. If you wait until there is a sale you can stock up then. I have an extra and have not broken it out of the bag yet. I am still using the mat that came with my Cameo in October. I use my machine everyday, or I did until I went on vacation several weeks ago. I put myself on restriction until I can catch up with all the house and yard work that popped into my life.

I'd go with Silhouette. It's so easy to find images, create images, and the mats and blades are easy to find. The ability to cut 12x12 images is wonderful!

A few of my designer friends have not given very positive reviews on the eCraft based on personal experience, so that one I would avoid. Every single one of my friends who has a Silhouette SD or Silhouette Cameo absolutely loves it and sings its praises. I vote Cameo all the way!

Another thing that I've heard over and over about the Cameo is how well it cuts the fine, intricate cuts. Based on how many of the new designs are so detailed, I would agree!

YAY! Dina, I think you'll love it!
If you decide to buy a subscription, you can get a discount on the price by using the coupon code "Scrapyland" when you checkout. I wasn't sure the code still worked, but I had to renew my subscription last week and took a chance, and it did!! ;D Gail
