So i told you guys previously that i've had pain in my neck and upper back for about a year now. Well, in june i had an MRI done and it showed a disc herniation in my neck putting pressure on the spinal cord. So after seeing the neurosurgeon, i was referred to get neck injections but first i had a consultation and now on wednesday im finally going to get a neck injection. I really do hope it helps but im still kinda nervous. The sound of surgery sounds way more scary though!

Noelle, I've had an injection in my knee for a torn ligament, and while I didn't exactly look forward to the injection (I'm not a big fan of shots of any kind ), it made a HUGE amount of difference! I hope this injection will help you!

Good Luck and hopefully this works for you, sounds like possibly sterioid injections. I know my mom had one done for her back and really helped her a lot.

Hoping the injections will relieve your pain, Noelle! I had a herniated disc (but lower back) and after a dose of heavy steroids orally, I saw an anesthesiologist who injected steroids into my lower back. It did take three injections (one a month) to alleviate the pain, but once they kicked in it was like a miracle. Hoping the same results for you! Let us know how you feel!

It went fine, aside from breaking out in a sweat and my blood sugar level dropping because I hadn't been able to eat 4 hours prior to surgery. It could take up to 3 days before I notice any difference in pain level though.

Well, I haven't had any miracles happen since the injection with my pain, so I'm thinking it may take a few injections to notice any difference. I'm crossing my fingers because I don't want surgery

I needed 3 injections (one a month) before I got relief, Noelle, coupled with Physical Therapy. Sending good vibes your way that you soon find relief!

Well I had my follow up and she said I'm probably going to need surgery since I had no relief. They told me that the space between the spinal cord and bulging disc was so narrow and rated as severe. Most cases that injections help are mild or moderate so I'm thinking they didn't catch it in time :/. Now I'm scared the thought of surgery and removal of the disc creeps me out!

Well, Noelle...that sure doesn't sound like a walk in the park. However, I have a friend who had a disk removed, and it wasn't nearly as awful as she thought it would be...and she felt better almost immediately! Good thoughts and prayers are on their way!

has surgery been scheduled yet??? Focus on the "after" and not the process - the thought of feeling better must sound so good!!! You have a good doc and you're young - keep us posted!!!

It hasn't been scheduled yet, I won't know when until the 17th when I meet with the neurosurgeon again.

Sorry to hear that your injection didn't relieve your pain, Noelle. And it is normal to be fearful of surgery.....most everyone is......but I agree with the comment to focus your energy on what the surgery should do: improve your life with pain relief! Pain can really wear you down. Sending some prayers that you can relax until it's scheduled. Let us know when you are going in for it! Hugs!

Just wanted to give an update, my surgery is scheduled for November 12. I won't be able to do much physical activity for 2 weeks and work for at least 4 weeks, but everyone's recovery is different. I should be pretty good by christmas though

I'm feeling alot better, most of the pain right now is from the operation. Just a sore throat and hard to sit up straight by myself. I'm doing good though

Noelle, I was so happy to see that you were already feeling well enough to post here! Hopefully, the pain from the surgery will go away soon (I personally love Advil or once in a while a bit of Vicodin), and you'll feel like turning cartwheels...we'd love to see pictures when that happens! Take good care, and do what the doctor tells you to do!
