Well as some of you know we had the " Toxic Lake " in our basement last month. That took away a few of my husbands vacation days. He has added an extra day onto every holiday weekend for the year so we have a 4 day weekend. During our Lake Crisis the Vacation Request List was posted and he didn't notice. He has 1st. seniority in his department but he won't use it when people have statrted making plans. He is not allowed to take time time from the middle of August to the middle of October. The only weeks that are now available either - my son is on his annual fishing trip with his Grandfather or he is working for 3 weeks at the Day Camp for the Younger Children at our church and community - the other problem is that for 2 different weeks my DD is going to Winnipeg to visit relatives. Please don't all cry at once now! So I see no family vacation for us this year! I was sort of sad as I really wanted a break as we have had a busy, hectic year but then I got thinking that we would have more funds available to go on a better holiday next year ..... probably not unless we put the money into a savings account. So what about everyone else? I can go with you in my imagination! If you don't mind. <><

Angelique, that sounds like fun! I don't have "big" plans this year since half my vacation time is used up. I get 22 days a year and last year, I started with 30 days, had the three week cruise through the Panama canal and then our company was shut down for 5 days during Christmas, with other days off, I started this year with -3.8 days I took 3 days off to go to Mexico in April to meet my aunt in Manzanillo which was so much fun! Her cruise ship stopped there and I could show her my home away from home. I took another 2 days off to go to Vancouver BC to visit her too! I'm down to about 11 days as I have taken a few misc hours to babysit my grandson. Next Friday, I'm taking a day off to take my grandson on a Train ride to see Thomas the train! We'll have fun. I need 5 days for Christmas as my company is shutting down and have 5 days to spare - I hope to go to Mexico, but we'll see about that! We want to cruise the "12 Baltic" capitals that NCL has next year for my daughter's graduation so I really need to save days for that too!

The good Lord knows that I need a vacation, I wish I could leave her and go to Hawaii and just relax and forget about sickness and death and near death. But I will have to settle for my son and grandbaby and daughter in law coming in July3. they will be here for a week, where we will celebrate her 1st birthday party.
It will be fun since I haven't them since September.
Wishing I was somewhere else but here. Betty/navymom05

Betty, That will be nice to celebrate the 4th of July with your grandbaby!
We're taking my grandson to the St. Paul Rodeo in Oregon, about an hour south of Vancouver on the 4th. They have a parade but I'm not sure if we are going to the parade. We would need to leave here around 6AM to get there early before they close the roads down for the parade.

We just got back from 11 days in Germany. We were visiting our son who is stationed there in the Air Force. The only other thing we'll do this summer is go up to Kentucky to visit our oldest son. Vicki

We went to HK for two weeks in Feb/March, so I don't think we can afford another holiday this year. We will probably do lot of day trips instead around the country - just to keep DS entertained.

Thank you Cheryle, actually I haven't seen her since my daughter's wedding in Sept. and I walking pnemonia and I had to wear a mask and I couldn't carry her.
So they are flying in and we are making her 1st birthday party here to celebrate with her family, and I just found out my son bought me ticket and I will be visiting him in Colorado for 3 weeks.
My husband of course is paying for my ticket to come back, he will be working alot of overtime or fixing lawnmowers just to make sure I come back.
I need a vacation, my Dr. said yesterday the brace could come off, but I still need to take it easy no heavy lifting or anything for about another month or 2.
I will miss my husband dearly. I have already cried and I haven't even left yet. But it's not a vacation because husband won't be there.

Betty, you just enjoy it. And I think, though he will miss you, your husband won't be happy if you aren't. And like you said he is working hard.
So, go, relax and enjoy your time. Your husband will just enjoy your stories and feel like he does have been a part of it.

I should have done it mich earlier and could have prevented how ill I became. Do it not only for yourself but for your family. Laura. <><

DH's starting a new job in July, therefore no big holiday plans yet. I'm going to take the boys to Bavaria to visit family and friends for two weeks in July/August and if we're lucky DH can get the first week of September off, just before school starts again. I'd like go camping somewhere by the sea in Italy or France.

I most likely will be going to the Dominican Republic some time this month, and hopefully will go back in August to actually stay for 3 weeks. I love going to the Caribbean and being able to go to the beach whenever I want, get a nice tan (like I need it ;D) and just relax drinking Pina Colada and passion fruit juice anytime I want.

Virginia, I love the Dominican Republic. We have been there 4 times. The only thing I hate is the beaches but then I hate the beach anywhere. Can't stand sand. I tortured myslf when my children were younger but no more. BTW .. The last time I was in the Dominican Republic I was great entertainment for many children. I am so pale that they would all come by our hotel to see the " Blanco " Lady! They were so sweet. What part are you going to. We have a Foster child there. We hope to visit her soon. Laura. <><

We went to HK for two weeks in Feb/March, Emma, I'm eating my heart out! Where did you stay in Hong Kong. I usually stay at the Sheraton or the Shangri-la on Kowloon. Have you had afternoon tea at the Peninsula Hotel? Oooh, it's wonderful and the frescos on the ceiling are breathtaking. It's been two years since I've traveled to SE Asia and I'm planning to go in the next three months for business and hoping I can do a layover in Hong Kong. I love having Tapas at the lobby bar at the Sheraton. I always pre-order the spanish meatballs to take on the plane with me. The flight attendants warm it up for me - everyone always ask if I brought it from home! LOL!!!!

I am going to stay at my mommy's house while I am there. I miss her and DDs terribly. I was born and raised there until I moved to the USA in 2000. What part of the DR did you visited?

No "BIG" vacation for me this summer. We all visited my mom in Arkansas in June ( I go every month, but not the DD's and DH), and we are visiting DH's parents at their lake house in Wisconsin in July. My younger daughter who is 14 (will be 15 in Oct.) and I will be in Kentucky at the Horse Park in Lexington for a week in August for her to compete (she rides hunter/jumpers). All sort-of "working" trips! My biggest vacation, per se, has been this week while my DH and DD's have been on a mission trip with our church, and I've been home alone ;D. I had tons of projects and work to be done, but I haven't accomplished much. I do feel refreshed, and I think it's been good for me! Just what I needed... I needed to mentally prepare to turn 50 next month Betty, a change of scenery may be just what you need. Go, enjoy yourself, and let your son spoil you. You have dealt with many stresssful situations recently. You can take the time to recuperate physically and mentally from all that's gone on in your life lately, your husband will benefit as well. I'm sure your husband will be more than happy to provide your ticket back to him... a new woman! Enjoy, don't feel guilty, and work through your feelings! My love and prayers are with you . M.

Emma, I'm eating my heart out!
Not when I tell you I stayed with my in-laws! They live in Sha Tin, NT. I couldn't believe how much the country has changed since I was last there is 1994! Really loved my trip! Would have been better if we were in a hotel though! ;D
Hi Emma, I'm still eating my heart out . I can only imagine how it has changed during that time period. I was only able to start traveling to HK in 1999 after the change over, however; I have noticed changes when traveling into the Shezhen and Dong Guan areas. One thing that has really changed (good and bad) traveling into Shezhen from the Lo Wu train station. Before there were a lot of shacks next to the exit of the immigrations center on the right side. During the time they expanded the train station, they removed all those. There are more people who come up to you if you are walking between the immigrations and Shangri-La hotel to try and help you with your baggage. The last time was 3 years ago while traveling with an engineer who had never done this little trek. It was so overwhelming for him! We had people pulling on us and trying to carry the baggage, he kept saying no, no, no and they wouldn't take no for an answer. As we were inside the immigrations building before the duty free store, there were taxi hockers too! When we got to the hotel, he told me he felt like he was being mugged! I tried to prepare him for that! I really like going to the 5 story commercial center there and bartering. I haven't been to Windows of the world but hope to one day. I've seen some of their statues as we drive by and it really intrigues me. Did you have a chance to go to HK Disneyland? My daughter loves HK too and wants to take Tristan there!

Did I say 1994? I meant 2004.... I've been back a few times before then, but this time I noticed a HUGE difference. I've never heard of an experience like yours with people trying to carry baggage! That sounds scary! But I've never been to Mainland China before, but would love to go and see all the sites. Yes we went to Disneyland - it is SOoooo small (definitely a small world ;D) We also went on Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car to the giant Buddha. It was absolutely stunning! DS loved Ocean Park too. The Jelly fish exhibition they had on there was amazing!
