So sorry about your Rev. Hope it can be resuscitated! As far as I know, the gears should still be available unless they've sold out... I'd e-mail LC and ask. My bet is they'll continue to stock them since they re-released the Rev. Gail

Sbartist.....they still have gears.....I e-mailed them about a month ago to get gears for my Revs. I have 2 Revs with bad gears now, they said I could only buy 1 set of gears.....I still haven't sent them the information to get that set. (it's been crazy busy at work this last month with a lot of extra early hours and lots of late hours....vacation time for lots of people) Since the Rev is still my favorite machine I really need to get going on that info. Later Ladies! Cat

I've heard of so many people having that problem. So far, my Rev has behaved and stayed in top shape, but I do give it a hefty workout! I do so wish that the Epic6 was made exactly the same though, only wider. I love the magnetic bottom! I know some people made their Epic6's bottom magnetic with the Quickutz magnetic sheets but I don't really wanna mess with that. I'll just keep dreaming! Hopefully you can get the gears you need still!! I'm betting I won't need any until they are unavailable, lol.

yes - what everyone said here already - email them! customerservice@lifestylecrafts.com just tell them that your Rev bit the dust this weekend and you can hear the gears "rattling" inside the casing. You'd like to order and pay for a new set of gears. from everything I've heard, they are still available and still selling them to customers who need them. have no fear - your Rev will be like a Phoenix - rising from the ashes of cardstock dust and fibers!! LOL

Are the gears the same as this: If you look at the mechanics of the Revolution (still intact, not taken apart), The black "gears" on either side of the silver roller, on one of them a "tooth" is missing. I can barely crank through the small plate and can feel it "skipping" as I try to crank it, making me have to crank it probably 5 times more than needed for each crank. The 12" platform: no way will that even go through, in fact it kicks it back out because it does not have the grooved track on it like the smaller one does.
Are these gears or some other part?

And thank you for your replies. I was just getting ready to send an email and thought I better check to make sure what I am asking for is what is really needed.

SB, I just looked at the underside of my Rev, and all the teeth on the black gears are intact, so I'm guessing that's your problem.... HTH Gail

the gears that broke on my machine, and what I have always assumed is breaking on other machines...is the set of gears under the handle. The black side plate, that looks to be embossed, that pops off and there are three gears in there, I think 3, maybe two, anyway those are what is breaking most often. When you shake the Rev it actually rattles because the little teeth-pieces are shaking around in there. You might have a different set of gears that needs to be replaced...I would email that exact same description you did above to QK. Tell them exactly what you told us - they'll help you figure out what you need!

My Rev is starting to squeak (not the sound the cutting mat makes). Can the gears be oiled? like with sewing machine oil?? I have a spare Rev that I only use if I have someone over to scrap with but I still do not want to ruin this one.
I think it was Cat that said this-- Why did they only let you buy one set of gears? If you have 2 machine why would they not let you buy 2 sets???
thanks again, Cindy

Cindy, I don't know their reasoning .....so this is only a guess on Hubby's and my part....they are afraid people will try to stock up on the gears and sell them or something..( that's our best guess) ........they just don't know us die hard Rev people. We love our Revs and can't stand to be without them. (I'm keeping any gears I get to fix my Revs. They're worth more to me than any money I might get from the gears) I have an Epic, and a Grand, .....but I use my Rev all the time and it's what I haul around with me when we travel. Love It! Cat

That is what I was sort of thinking too. I know what you mean about the Rec- I love that machine!! I also have the Grand and use it for larger dies, but the Rev is my go-to tool. I wish LSC would realize how much it means to us and build on that.

I did get a very prompt response from Lifestyle Crafts this morning and they have given me two options: let them repair it or I can order the gears and repair it myself. For those that have repaired their own, was it easy to do?

I can't answer you, really, because it sounds like you have different broken gears than I had. Mind - I unscrewed the handle, popped off the black side plate, pried out the gears and dropped the new one in. It really wasn't a big deal - hardest part was getting the black plate off because I had to find something to wedge in the crevice. But once I had a metal nail file...LOL...in there it just popped right off. But I'm just not sure about yours under the tray??? Sorry...wish I could help...did they give you the different charges???

Yes, Susan they did. They have offered for me to ship it to them (at my expense of course) and fix it, which is what I am leaning towards doing. Because it does sound to me like different gears are broken then the 'norm'.

They sent me instructions on how to replace the gears and it is not the one that I can see a tooth missing. I think I will be better off shipping it to them and letting them repair it.

Bonnie, DH is sitting here with me and I just asked him about your gears. He's not sure, but I know where my Rev is (we just moved in on Friday.) He will check it and I will get back to you. It's expensive to ship the Rev and it was super easy to replace my gears. DH has done it twice, but mine is the smallest internal gear that breaks. It's actually split in half twice--just too much pressure. I don't emboss with it anymore--that Epic needs to have something to do!

I have not yet sent in my Revolution for repair. I am thinking about NOT sending it in. By the time I pay the cost to ship it, plus the cost to repair and return it to me, it will almost pay for those longer Cuttlebug mats, adapter and spacer plates I just purchased. I have never had a problem with CB.

Bonnie, DH just pulled one of my Revs apart. If it is the one that rolls the plate along, it is not visible when you take the swirly decorative plate off that's under the handle. Based on what you are saying, I would send it back to QK. I'm the first to say do it yourself, but DH thinks you need to unscrew the metal plate inside the Rev that holds everything in place. He's a handy guy and he didn't want to try it on my Rev. Sorry! Let's all have a moment of silence for Bonnie's Rev.

Hold on! Wait a minute! Bonnie if its the gears that "pull" the little plate (4x4) through the Rev., My son removed those when they broke and put the machine back together. It works like a dream. His reasoning was there are "NO" teeth on the 12" plate for the gears to pull it through anyway....pure roller strength only....so those gears aren't needed. The gears around the handle under the side plate are the only ones that need replacing for the Rev to work. (The broken roller gears do make it almost impossible to use the machine until they are removed) Hope this helps! Cat

Thank you for everyone's input. Cat - they are the gears you are talking about. I have not taken the Rev apart, so I do not know if there are also gears inside that might be broken. Maybe I should just try taking it apart. It has been riding around with me in my car the past couple of days contemplating on whether I should ship it or not. Hmm....

Bonnie, my son says its really easy......it might be worth a try to check things out.....If you have any problems give me a holler and I'll get him to help us.....he doesn't have a problem in talking people through these things...fact is he is great about it. Cat

Cat, that makes sense. But then Bonnie said that her 12" platform wouldn't go through at all... Bonnie, can you take a picture of the problem gears? Maybe if we can see exactly the gears you are talking about, we can better help. I'd hate for you to spend the money to ship it back if it's an easy problem!

Michelle, I couldn't roll mine 12" plate through until Michael removed the broken gears......he says they where causing it to bind until he removed them. (because they were broken) He fixed both of my Revs when those gears gave way......it's the darn gears in the end panel that can't be fixed until I get those gears from LS. cat

I am in the process of taking it apart now. It is the black gear(s) that you can see from the outside - one of them is missing a tooth. However, I am finding a few "white" pieces that are also falling out of the machine which leads me to believe maybe the white gear(s) located inside may also have an issue. Still trying to take the handle off, it is a bugger. Back to the garage for yet another screwdriver. Plus I need to put my bifocals on to see better.

Okay, I did get the handle off. Not good news. The gear behind the handle is missing about 6 teeth!

Now I am stumped. I cannot figure out (based on the photographic instructions) how to take the cover(s) off.
The directions say: using a rubber or plastic mallet, tap in a small flat head screwdriver at the bottom of covers. Pry covers away from side housing. I don't see how I can get a small flat head screwdriver in without breaking something. I cannot even get my fingernail in between let alone a screwdriver.
