Well I have decided that since I have not posted on this thread I will give you my take on this whole issue. First of all I used to sell on ebay and often bought dies as an investment if I got it below the going Market price. Yes I have made a profit off 75% of the Retired I resold. I will say that I do still have dies put aside as I am busy doing other things right now with my time plus the fact that with the present economy I would be giving my dies away for much less than I bought them for. Many of these dies and Alphabets I also purchased on ebay.uk. Will I make a profit on these retired and exclusives? I hope so! I have gone through my dies and none of the ones I have put away have a "C" on them plus many are Exclusives that are Sold Out. Barrie, you have bought from me in the past as we both know as does Dani and I so appreciated not only your purchase but all the info you have sent me about BossKuts and the Gazelle. Anyway who has the Gazelle or is sitting on the fence, Barrie does have some sites you can go to for excellent images etc.. I respect everyones right to have an opinion - one of the great things about living in Canada and the USA - Freedom of Speech! This is my story which I had to rewrite as it was first an answer to a member in a MB. That email contained private information, not about me but the kindness of others who probably wish their names not mentioned: I really don't think Barrie understands the issue that I see that the Diva's were commenting about. I may be very wrong about both. In the Fall I bought a New Richard for $80.00 BIN on ebay. I knew that ( a wonderful friend ) really wanted that die. She has shown incredible kindness to me including buying me a SL GC for my Birthday when she hardly knew me. I didn't know what to do about my purchase. Since many ebay Sellers in the US won't ship to Canada she and (another dear friend) have let me use their home addresses so I can purchase in the US. Once I have an envelope of things at their home they ship it to me and I send them the shipping. I emailed Dani to be sure he didn't have a Richard tucked away as I would rather give him the business and while I was waiting for his reply I notice the C E M Richard $50.00BIN so I felt I had the answer I felt, so purchased it. Dani called me and told me that he didn't have a Richard and I told him about my purchase of another Richard and thanked him. ( another dear friend of this person ) wanted to split the purchase with me as (they) had wanted to acknowledge ( our mutual friends ) Birthday as she has helped them alot with many things. So on ( this special friend's) Birthday I told her that the Richard she had that I had bought and she had received delivery on ( the one for $80.00) was hers from ( that other friend) and I. She wouldn't accept the die til I told her that I had found a replacement for myself and she would see that I was telling the truth when she received the other die in the mail. I was so pleased to be able to do this for her. So - My question is : What if I had wanted to have the original die for myself? As if I was a collector then it would I believe have more value that the C dies??? That is where I feel cheated by what C E M has done. I agree they should have stated "clearly" that they were reissued dies. If I were a collector I would be so upset that I had given away an original instead of a "C = counterfeit" . In that way I would be cheated. They are not originals and should have not been sold as such. If there was a C there I sure didn't see it. So that is my take on the whole thing. This is a Buyer Beware situation. Thanks to all who got through my Novel.   <><

Hi Laura!!! Ya know...in your case I will certainly have to agree with you and I will gladly pass this scenario on to the seller. Your situation is very unique and would probably never come up again...mailnly because there aren' many people like you out there. But in the seller's defense...you can't possibly have thought of every scenario...nobody can. And I can honestly say ..with certainty..that this sellr in no way set out to deceive anyone!!! She simply took an opportunity that was offered to her...the same way Dani would have if he was offered the same deal. I'm sure now that she sees the problem that arose from this she will take steps to correct it. What I objected to was the all the comments that were made and the awful things that were said about her that simply aren't true. For one..they said "she just doesn't have enough imagination to make her own exclusives...well that simply is not tru. She does have her own line of exclusive dies with BK...and you know this because I sent them to you (pics). What she did was without any intent to misrepresent or deceive anyone and had this been handled in a business-like manner without all the name calling and some urging everyone to set up a phont Ebay site to set her up or whatever they were intending...that's even worse!!! because they are intentionally setting out to do harm. Every single one of us makes mistakes...big ones sometimes and when you absolutely crucify someone for making an error you imply that you don't make mistakes...that is why I got upset. Laura...you know very well that I love Dani to pieces and I only praised him when we talked...but I am also just as close and devoted to the other seller...so with the same conviction everyone has stood behind Dani...I need to stand behind this other seller Let me give you a little more food for thought....If Dani or anyone else is sitting on enough of these retired dies that this very small re-release will hurt their business...then maybe these dies aren't as rare as they seem...just hoarded...hmmmm??? I absolutely lovelove love the VW die I got from you and that truly is a rare treasure...but right after I did a BIN with you I watched two of them go on auction for way less than half what I paid you....Am I upset???Not in the least!!!! Do I for one second regret what I paid for mine....absolutely not!!!! The auctions are always a gamble and I'm very sure 99% of the people that got these re-releases are so dang happy they were able to get them at all. I know if the Halibut ever comes up I will jump on it ...even if it's a knock off!!!! I'm saying this because I know how covetted your Halibut is...heehee. I can absolutely promise every one of you that now this has been brought to this seller's attention...she will take steps to correct it. Integrity is the heart and soul of her business...how else could she maintain her feedback rating? This could all have been handled in a more calm and business-like manner...BUTTTT...all things happen for a reason...right??? I will pass you scenario on to her tomorrow and in this very unique case I have to agree with you...but I also have to say that you are so sweet and wonderful that not too many people would give away their precious die w/out having another in hand...I truly believe you would I'll email you directly later this week so we can chat about Gazelle and life in general.... C'ya, Barrie

I still think that regardless of what the owners of that other store or her friends say, the fact remains that the dies where being passed as retired when they where not. I myself bought 2 or 3 and I would have never paid what I paid if I knew they where 2nd edition. Remember when A's marked their 2x2 at a high price and people where so upset about it? These re-released dies are basically the same custom dies and the value technically shouldnt be more than $9.99 or $14.99 or whatever. The fact that this store knew that the dies where previously retired and now where re-issued as custom and they are selling for $25-$30 on Ebay I think it is unethical.

I am the one that got the whale from Laura and another great friend for my birthday.
I do feel horrible for having the older die, while Laura settled for the reproduction.
I feel so bad about it, that it is still sealed in the package hanging there looking at me saying, how could you accept me. When you know that I really wanted to swim across the Detroit River and live in Canada.

Hi Barrie, I look forward to your email and catching up. I gave a story on how the reissued dies could have affected me but since I am not a collector I will be using my Richard. I will also add that a did get a couple of other dies from C. E. M. and they were second chance offers from auctions I didn't win for around $30.00 for which I was thrilled. I have had some emails and I think that some of the Diva's who are the regulars are upset that the most unkind comments made about C. E. M. are from girls who only drop on now and again. It appears that the faithful members that post the most feel that you may have painted the whole membership with the same paintbrush and that is why they are upset. I don't know if you know any of the other Diva's here but we do so try to keep this board a place to come and share in many ways. I come to play and toss sand around the Sand Box!!! If you have be a reading guest then I am sure you are aware of the fact that we are a friendly bunch of Gals who love and care for one another. That is why so many feel that they have been misjudged. Yes people do make mistakes and if a mistake is fixed in good faith then all is well. I must also admit that I made a mistake early on in my ebay days and used someones picture. It was my fault as I should have read ebays polices through before listing. I did all I could to fix my error including a public apology in my listing when the original seller notified me and she forgave me. God does amazing things as we all know. That seller I later met through a MB and she is on this one. I love her very dearly and we now laugh about it. I do think as you have posted that my situation is not one that would come up often. You must feel caught in the middle since you are close to Dani and C. E. M. . It was so late last night when I posted that I forgot to send my Best Wishes and Prayers for your friend who is ill. I think we have spoken about her before. It is so hard when people close to you are so ill but I always pray for a miracle in these situations. May God grant her that. Anyway, Thanks for responding to my post. Yes the Market has fallen for most dies and so many things can be picked up for pennies on the Dollar these days. I am sure we all look forward to better economic times. I am off ebay for at least a year so I hope by then things will have improved!!! Teasing, I pray for the economy and those affected so harshly by it daily. Thanks again. Laura. <><

Special people like you, and you do so much for not only me but so many Diva's, deserve nice things to happen to them. That Richard wants to be in Detroit. He hates the Great Lakes. The seller told me this - I kid you not! <><

You know, I just wanted everyone on the Message Board to know that I looked on the webpage of Quickutz under Custom Dies, and the dies that are in question here are not there. She made a statement to me when I emailed her that they were purchased as a reproduction of the die, not negotiated as a custom die, but she has asked Quickutz to put them on the Custom Die page so that everyone would know they were legitimate. If they had been purchased as a custom die, I would think they would have already shown up on this page, being she has been selling these for awhile now it seems, and Dani's Scrapyland's Custom Dies are there. I mention this, because this would seem that she must be telling the truth about this matter. And if she asked for them to be put up on the page, then we will obviously see this soon in the future. Just food for thought!

Thank you for this information. I have purchased items from ebay but really didn't understand what the c-.... meant. I thought that it was an exclusive, company designed die and only available at that company or thru ebay. I didn't realize that a company (such as an ebay store) kinda re-issued a retired die and then the c-.... was added because of this.
Great information on the message boards!
Thanks!

I think I am being teased with bringing up an old thread. Should I have not commented on how helpful this is to a newbie even though it is very relevant for me right now?
I do have a question though.
I have seen on ebay some 4x4 dies with numbers like REV-0000-D.
Does the "D" mean it's a knock-off of some kind?
Thank you for everyone's help. This is a great and friendly place!

Not teasing it was just a flashback. That's interesting about the D. I just went and looked through my dies and none have Ds on them. Now I want to know. Susan or Dani might know the answer to that.

Ellen? Us tease? Nuh-unh!
As someone who just went through and cataloged her entire die cut collection last week, they seem to have a pretty weird, inconsistent system. What die is it with the D? That may help figure it out.

I'm like gum stuck to the bottom of a shoe - I can't let this go. I emailed the seller and asked. Let us see if she answers.

Thank you for everyone's help. This is a great and friendly place! Oh, Ellen, I don't think we're teasing you...you've just brought up some memories, which allow some of us who are not-so-new to Quickutz/Lifestyle Crafts to remember what it was like when we were also new, and once in a while we'll have the answer you're looking for. I'd be curious about that "D" addition, too. I vaguely (and I do mean "vaguely") remember something about that, too, but hopefully the company/Dani/Susan will have that information for all of us.

K....don't mark my words on this...but towards the last year of so of QK, if I remember correctly they started putting 'D' or 'S' on the end of some of their die numbers to delineate 'double' or 'single' die. That way you knew if there were one or two dies to make that shape. For instance, the artist easel from the 'crafty' release, it's number is REV-0317-S. I remember having to start putting those in when inputting a project on their website towards the last year/year-and-a-half or so of their existence. Like I said, not completely positive on that take, but that's what I'm recalling..... Pam

Thanks! That make sense. So, for the following listing:
[glow=red,2,300]Quickutz CUSTOM DIE "C-0155-S-REV" WHALE[/glow]
It means? C= custom copy a store had QK make "x" amount of dies and S = single die
See what trouble a newbie can cause? ! !

...See what trouble a newbie can cause? ! ! Nope...not trouble! ;D It's going to be rather helpful to know/be reminded of these things as Lifestyle Crafts may change everything, and we may or may not have the references for the old QK dies!

Yep that's it! D is for double, except none of my double dies have a D on them. I'll need to go back and look because I was focusing on the end of the numbers, not the middle.

Is the "D" (or "S") only on the Revolution dies? This is just speculation, because I don't have any in front of me right now. (Yes, I know...I could go and look! ;D)

I think the 'S' and 'D' may be just for the REV dies. I took a look at my 2x2s from that same 'Crafty' release and there are 2 delineations in their numbers that will clue you in as to wether or not it's a single die or double die. First, if it starts w/ KS-, it's a double die. If it starts w/ RS-, it's a single die. I think they've been using that one since close to the start of QK. The second delineation are the last 2 numbers listed ON the die itself. For instance, the number on the packaging for the spray paint can is KS-1013, but ON the die, it says 1013 1-2 on the first, then 1013 2-2 on the second. Again, I think this last method of delineating was fairly recent before QK became LC. Hope that helps! Pam
