Not sure if you all noticed how a lot of the old retired dies all of a sudden appeared on EBAY and now there is a C before the product code. Apparently 1 store somehow got the dies, word is they paid QK to get exclusive rights over the shapes so that they can sell it. Just letting you know so you dont pay top dollar for them as there should be a pretty strong supply if the rumor is true.
I'll try to get an answer tomorrow.

I'm a bit clueless. What ones are we talking about. And what do you mean by they should have a strong supply?

doesn't the C mean they were made in China?

nope.. C stands for cheating since they aren't clever enough to make their own design.

nope.. C stands for cheating since they aren't clever enough to make their own design. When you think about its genius!! If they made their own shape they wouldnt be able to get away with charging $20-$30 for a 2x2 die. Customers wouldnt be happy! By doing retired dies and putting on Ebay they will make a lot more money.

Isn't there an old childhood saying . . . cheat, cheat, never beat!
Don't know if this is going to work out the way they want. But the best of luck if it does.

Yes it is smart in that QK doesn't take any risk. Let's face it they would still be making those retired dies if they were making money for them. But, we QK'ers do tend to want what we want when we need/want them, so there has become a market for retired dies. I am not happy in that I bought some dies ahead of time to possibly sell at a profit, my bad. but hey it was my choice, I got caught up in the moment. As a seller myself you don't want to pass up on opportunities, but may loose money. but as a buyer, why would I care if it has a C, as long as I could get that coveted die. just looking at it from both sides.

I am so glad I have most of the old retired ones.. Only a few that I don't have and not sure if I want them anyway.
A halibut on the other hand would be an awesome xmas gift for me... lol

I have bought from this seller before and found them to be very trustworthy, but as a "collector", I'm not sure about buying these, I think I would rather hold out for decent priced originals.

I am missing something. What dies are you all talking about. Someone please pm with a link or something. Either you know something I do not or I am not seeing on the E what you all are talking about. So I am very confused now.

I found it! THANK YOU Dani, For those who don't follow, the item number in the description of the body of the auction reflects something like this:
C-RS-0197 QUICKUTZ UTENSILS SINGLEKUTZ DIE
NOTE: it is not in the line summary of the auction - there you will see rs-0197 only. pretty tricky.

OK, I think I may have started this. I raised a question with Dani yesterday, after I received a die from an Ebay seller with the 'C' prefix code.
I also emailed Quickutz and they confirmed the die I got was a custom die.
Its pretty apparent if you purchase one of these. Apart from the 'C' code, they are also in the newer style packaging - not the blue type which you would normally expect.
If you don't pay high prices then this is a good opportunity to be able to own the rarer dies.

Can you say "annoying"? I wanted to sell most of mine too! Oh well, it's great for those who have wanted these dies!

I bought a whale from the seller Dani is refering to. I began to wonder when there were 4 whales available and then I purchased one and more and more keep popping up. I did not see thenotice the print on the bottom of the auction with the c in front of the die number and am sure that when I bought the die the newer style packaging was not part of the listing. I though that I was getting the old origional die. But, I love my whale so it will reside in the Qk binder and be well loved, unlike Angelique's fairy die. But now that I know that the store bought the rights.... I will stear clear. It does seem a little sneaky to imply that they are rare when they have a store full of them. Thanks for the warning, Dani.

I doubt many people will notice the C and I was wondering why there were soooo many retired dies showing up. Thanks for the heads up. Vicki

It may be to late for me but I did not see a C anywhere in the auction. I have looked and they only have the real number. Well if it is a new one I will not be happy because that is being sneaky and dishonest. If they said up front it was an exclusive fine but I feel that is cheating the buyer when they do not disclose that.

I looked, too, and not all of her auctions have the "C" in front of the number, but some of them do. You just have to scroll down through the item description before you'll see the "C". If you just want to see what her auctions look like, search for "Quickutz Retired Snorkel"...the auction is in the "Stores" section near the bottom of the page.

Dani, is this why you are selling some of your off on ebay, going with the going is good? That's what I might be doing, espeically in that this is your livelyhood. For me, my SIL (sister in law, not the cutting machine) just got a cuddlebug...so she may be getting some really expensive presents the flipper and the scuba mask are one of the "C"s emily

I really wanted the whale and thought it was cheaper than the origional.... store exclusive would have been more honest. I have not left feedback yet and am not sure what to say. I did not see the C either, until Dani pointed it out. Maybe, I should write in the feedback... " the reissue of the retired die was received today, though I was surprised that one store obtained the rights to reissue some of the retired dies in a large quainity. I had to call QK for clasification since I was surprised by the packaging and the C on the die. I guess this makes the die a store exclusive rather than a rare retired collectable.Uh...thoughts anyone? Jenn

Jenn - You would be honest on your feedback, so no problem, I can see. Reread the auction, make sure all your facts are straight & go for it.
Good luck!

It loses the retired status and technically you shouldnt be paying more than $12-$15 for them like any other 2x2 exclusive that comes out. Specially for collectors having that C there means it is a new custom die. Its like buying a new stamp for the price of a 100 yr old stamp.!!

Thanks for the heads up everyone. This is just so wrong. To say it is rare retired when it is a remake of a retired die. I have not received any from this seller but I was watching and now I will not pay more than I should for a 2 x 2. Because you are not getting what you are thinking. Yes I like the shapes but since they are new with a new number I am not going to pay the high price. That is just so deceitful and it really bugs me. Why can't they be honest.

I hope the seller is reading this thread! i do feel that honest feedback would not be out of line. Or...any past or potential buyer could contact the seller and let her know what you now know! Since Ebay's policy now makes the seller more vulnerable to negative feedback, she could end up with more negatives than she might be anticipating.
But...Jenn...your possible feedback is simply truthful, not hurtful, so I don't see a problem there.

Boy Dani is right, there are a lot. One lady is selling the flipper, just check out all...well here is her auctions. Her description if very stark. But even thought I see the aspect of it being an interesting business move, I do think they should state what the "C" means. It's just good to be as honest in your ads as possible. Shoot, I usually go overboard as I try (occasionally you a bad buyer too) but it's just best to tell the truth. shop.ebay.com/merchant/karlienuno10_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZemily
